    OPENINGS STILL AVAILABLE

WHEW! The holidays are finally over and we are off to a very full and exciting Winter/Spring lineup of classes. Our new Classes brochure is at the printers and should be available soon. By now, you should have received an e-blast that has a link to the complete

    brochure attached.

You can also access the new classes schedule by going to our website, by checking out last months’ newsletter, or the old fashioned way, by dropping by our studios and viewing our offerings on the sign up sheets! Anyway you do it, we think you will be pleased with the variety of classes offered and their availability. So, please take the time to look things over and commit to taking that class you’ve always wanted to and inspire your creativity by getting involved!

    • ”PHOTOSHOP” Class with Lisa Brooks: 3-hour class, Wed., Jan. 25, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM - ($50, laptop w/software required.) Sign up in studio or call Lisa at 386-402-0782.

    • “PRINTMAKING” Class with Carolyn Land (Wed: 1-4 PM; start date TBD: will begin as soon as group of students signs up.) Contact her at [email protected].

FEATURED CLASS: Join the Live Model Open Studio!

    • Tuesday Open Studio - Drawing and Painting from a Live Model (Tues. evenings: 6 - 9 P.M.- Sign-up needed)

    Monitor: Christophe Cardot, [email protected]

After the well-deserved holiday break and the break due to the renovations and repairs to the studios, the Live Model class has started this month! Please consider joining the Tuesday evening class (6-9pm), where we draw and paint from a live model every week! I went pretty regularly last year, and it is so worth it! The professional models change every week and have great poses. The experience helps you with your drawing skills, measuring proportions, judging value, and putting down your lines and shapes fast. We warm up with several 2- and 5-minute poses, then do a few poses for 10 minutes, and end the 3-hour session with

several 20-minute poses, where you can really flesh out your subject.

Most of us draw in charcoal or pencil, while some sketch in thinned oils and even add full-scale oil colors at the end, like I tried after I got comfortable.

Please consider joining the fun and see your art skills improve! For more info and the current cost, email Christophe Cardot at [email protected].

    Keep painting! Ruth Squitieri

Thanks to all who helped make January’s art exhibits to our local venues so successful! Community Exhibits is all about bringing your art to public places where you have a chance to sell or get some recognition. Also is an excellent tool to promote the Artists’ Workshop.

Every month we like to feature an ongoing exhibit at one of our local venue. Watercolorist, Sylvia Spradlin has generously offered to share a beautiful collection of her artwork at the New Smyrna Beach Library. Please come by and check it out! Examples of this wonderful show are shown below.

We still have space at the Edgewater Library. If anyone is interested please contact Kathy Vitale at 386-428-3933 or Ruby Jones at 386-427-9222. If you would like to know more about this program, please call any of our volunteers listed below.

    2017 High School Art Show

    We Need A Committee Chairperson!!!

We need an Artists’ Workshop volunteer to Chair this year’s High School Art Show program. In 2017, the Artists’ Workshop will sponsor its 18th Annual High School Exhibit and awards program. Please use this opportunity to help us continue the program and show our commitment to the youth of our community. Regina Wise has a complete folder/checklist for you to follow from past shows. You can contact her with any questions you might have at 386-847-1676, or email [email protected].

Background: New Smyrna Beach High School students compete for cash awards and ribbons in the Painting/Drawing, Photography, and Sculpture/Ceramics categories. The Artists’ Workshop supports the local High School Arts program by providing funds for art supplies as well as providing refreshments for the annual awards ceremony. We also rely on the generosity of our individual Artists’ Workshop members to provide donations for the High School Art Show Awards Program: 15 awards (a total of $555.00 in cash awards) are distributed to the Best of Show, Distinguished Artist, and Merit Awards in all 3 student award categories.

  • From the PresidentLiz Clayton

Dear Members of The Artists’ Workshop,

I hope that everyone has noticed how nice our ceilings look again with the new tiles in place. I want to thank Patrick Rausch and his wife; Ruby Jones and her husband; Marty Potter, Robert Wince, Ruth Squitieri, Nick Harroun, Joe Anglin and Christophe Cardot for their willingness to help. It was a big job, but many hands made light work!

I am looking forward to an exciting spring . . . the Members’ Show, great workshops, Lagoonacy, and new classes. I am especially pleased that we are offering evening classes now. This gives us the opportunity to provide classes for people that work during the day . . . something we have not been able to do before. I encourage you to check out the evening classes by Patrick Rausch and now Scott Hiestand.

    Happy New Year!Liz
