Taught by Emily Umland, founder and director of Charles River Ballet. Ballet Master Classes available for Babson, Olin, and Wellesley College students! The classes will feature a full workout of barre and center exercises geared toward those with prior ballet experience. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to work with Emily Hrones Umland - a professional dancer for 7 years with Boston Ballet and Nevada Ballet Theatre. She now directs

the Charles River Ballet Academy in Needham, which she founded after she retired from the stage in 2001.

Spring 2012 Contemporary Global Book Club: India. RSVP.

Selections: The Beautiful and the Damned: a Portrait of the New India by Siddartha Deb (2011)

Synopsis: This non-fiction book has created quite a firestorm in India through telling the contemporary lives of five Indians ranging from very rich to very poor. A lawsuit resulted in an altered version in India. The US version is complete.

Bio: Siddhartha Deb (born 1970) is an Indian author who was born in Meghalaya and grew up in Shillong in northeastern India. He was educated in India and at Columbia University, USA. His first novel, the Point of Return, is semi autobiographical in nature and is set in a fictional hill-station that closely resembles Shillong in India's Northeast. His second novel, Surface, also set in Northeast India, is about a disillusioned Sikh journalist. His first non-fiction book, The Beautiful and the Damned: Life in the New India was published in June 2011 by Viking Penguin. He has also contributed to the Boston Globe, the Guardian, the Nation, the New Statesman, Harper's, the London Review of Books, and the Times Literary Supplement.

Theater at Olin on Tuesday evening, January 31st (iCal attached). A number of Olin students have been an active part of the planning process, and we are excited to bring this play to Olin. The performance is free and is open to all members of the Olin, Babson, Wellesley, and Needham communities. Refreshments will be provided. The Yellow Dress is a powerful one woman play that stimulates a thought-provoking discussion about relationships. The Program consists of a 30 minute performance and a 30 minute interactive discussion. The play will help students recognize the different types of dating violence, how to identify the early warning signs, and where to seek help if they or a friend are involved in a violent relationship.
