So lets get straight in…

As anyone knows grabbing email subscribers is the way to build consistent sales. There are tons of products, training and even opt-in popups, sliders, scroll-sliders, footer pops and exit pops ..all engineered to get an email address.

In exchange for their email – we (marketers) offer a book, letter, guide or some even offer a CD. The thing is our subscribers treat their email address as gold... because they have been stung before– either with poor promotions or with promises that just aren’t kept.

So when you next offer a Free Book, guide or report – you have to ensure its genuinely valuable… right?

You believe it is right?…you’ve put a lot of effort into writing it – and so it should deliver what the reader should want it and get value.

So here’s the thing… how do you make your book actually have a value…I mean a real dollar figure….

Instead of making the book have a notional value that you decide… give it a real one by publishing it on Amazon!

Then you can have optin forms that look like this:

If you are new to Amazon publishing, let me explain. Amazon owns a publishing technology called Createspace. This allows you to create your own book and upload it. Once approved its ready for purchase like any regular book, but they print on demand, so you don’t have any of the conventional upfront publishing costs.

You take a royalty of the total sale and they take care of the rest.

The benefits using this technique are:

1) Credibility for you and your website 2) You become a real author3) A real value of your ebook4) Another source of traffic through Amazon sales5) Another revenue source through royalties

(You can even SEO against your book page, get it ranked and compete in markets you can never normally touch due to Amazon’s own web authority)

In this guide I’m going to give you an overview of:

1) How to create your createspace book2) How to create your cover graphic easily (using free tools)3) Some awesome popup tools.4) Resources and links to outsource a lot of this work.

1) How to setup and publish your createspace book

Firstly – this is not a publishing guide, and there are plenty of createspace ‘howto’ books out there. To be honest though, its really not difficult and its just like using any normal online service plus the famous Amazon user friendly interface.

Having said all that, here are the key steps broken down:

1) Create an account at createspace here: https://www.createspace.com/

2) Enter the title and description details

3) Choose the right format, colour and size

A few tips here. The smaller the book – the more pages there are. So if you are light on content...you know what todo.

Secondly – make sure you choose a standard size for better distribution options in case your book really sells.

They provide you with a whole load of templates which you can download and simply paste in your ebook content into.

Tidy up the formatting and your almost done. Note the layout will change to match ensure the margins are deep enough to allow the bind. (Remember its going to be a real book now)

4) Upload a PDF of your file

Once you have completed your layout in Word (forget the cover at the moment). You will need to convert it to PDF. For most users you can export or SaveAs it will take care of this.

I have found that if you use Word – there is sometimes a problem with creating a pdf of the correct size. For example if you choose a 5.25x8 format – it will look great in word, but in pdf format it can have huge margins and lots of white space.

If you use Openoffice instead – then it formats the size correctly. To avoid this – I suggest opening your template in openoffice and work from that.

Createspace Pre-Flight.When you save your pdf – it should be in “print quality” format or pdf/x. Try to avoid compressing images and reducing dots per inch as you will lose significant quality in the printed manual.

There is a process called Pre-flight which will go through your whole pdf and check it for problems that may occur in printing.

I found a shortcut around this whole process. You can outsource the creation of your print ready pdf/x for $5 by using this guy on fiverr:

5) Upload the cover image

To create your book cover – you have 3 options.

1) Use the inbuilt book cover wizard.This is ok – but some of the designs I find a bit cheesy.

2) Outsource it (fiverr gig here: http://fiverr.com/users/dreamworld/gigs/design-a-professional-cover-page-for-ur-magazine-book?ref=glst-g-ttl )

3) You can create your own using a graphics package.By far the best free alternative to photoshop for this is inkscape.com http://inkscape.org/

Some people maybe familiar with Gimp also, however Gimp is great for editing bitmap files but it does not handle vector

graphics. What this means to you and I is that when you resize stuff you get jagged edges or poor quality graphics when you save as .png or .jpg.(Inkscape is supported on windows and Mac by the way.)

Steps to creating your kick ass cover design for non designers (like me):

1) Install Inkscape or use your favourite drawing package.2) Download the template from createspace for your specific

book size.3) Find an eyecatching image from fotofolia or istockphoto, or

use an image that you already have for your ebook cover design. (make sure its your own and not copied from Google images.. it will cost you in fines in the long run.)

4) Create a new layer in inkscape or your drawing package.5) Import the guide image template you downloaded from 2).

6) Import and overlay your eyecatching image7) Create your title and subtitle

(I use a Large Myriad Pro font – as it looks professional)

8) Add the ‘About the Author section” on the back. Note in my example I am doing the cover as if the book is laid out flat.

6) Submit

It takes Amazon around 48 hours to accept the title, following which you will need to order a proof. Once you have received that, checked it and clicked ‘reviewed’ in Createspace…then it will be live in a few days. Note it takes a week to 14 days to get the proof to you depending on your despatch option so plan ahead.

Once your book is live you can create some great popup optin screens. If you use wordpress, then there is only 1 optin plugin I recommend to users and that is wpsubscribers. What this does is allow you to create sexy popup optin forms like this:

it can also do in post optins, exit splashes.. you can even embed another website inside the popup.

Lastly it also allows a subscribe via Facebook which is a great way to attract signups - I don’t know of any optin tool that does this today:

Extra Traffic

To conclude this report – there are two extra benefits to using this technique apart from improving your conversion rates.

1) You will get sales from your book which will improve as your Amazon rank improves. Don’t forget to get your friends and family to buy the book and review it.

2) The URL of you book will already have tons of authority in Googles eyes because its from Amazon. So to make the book rank in Google is a lot easier than a normal site. Hopefully you will have uploaded the book using a good keyword as I mentioned earlier.

You can use many of the link packets available on the warriorforum or your own SEO strategy to target your URL and get it ranked on page getting sales and traffic for your main site.

This is a great way to compete it highly competitive niches!
