Hello UMW Sisters,

I hope all is well with you and your families. My summer has been busy!

And now it’s time for my girls to go back to school- Yea!

My spring and summer months have been filled with trials and tribulations

and I thank the Lord that by His grace, is blessing my family and I through

each one.

Reminders: As Bridges District Annual Celebration and the end of the year

approaches, Local units should be preparing reports to send to the District

such as Five Star Giving- (Treasurer), Mission Today Unit- (E&I), Reading

Program recipients- (Secretary of Program Resources), those who have

gone home to be with the Lord (Membership Nurture & Outreach) by

September 1st. Thinking about the 2013 officers (Secretary) by December

1st, and membership count (MNO)- by mid January 2013. So please look out

for information in the near future.

Also, please attend the District UMW Annual Celebration on October 6th.

Apart from the celebration it is a Business meeting and

Nominations/Installation of District Officers. I am making an appeal to

Young Adult women- If you have a passion for and finding ways to help

out or are doing work around Women, children and youth- the United

Methodist Women organization is for you. Come share your passion and

Greetings to all my beloved sisters in Christ. Summer is almost over and some of us are busy

catching up to our forgotten chores. We are back to our daily routines, bringing our

children/grandchildren to school, and other activities.

With the Lord’s blessings and guidance all is well with me. Our Mission Education Event at New

Vision in Millbrae went well. We are expecting more than a hundred registrants in Santa Nella

this weekend. Our District Annual Celebration/Meeting is coming soon. Please see the

attached flyer. I look forward to seeing everyone at this First Annual Celebration of our Bridges

District.

To all the Local Units Presidents, please be sure that the flyer will be shared by everyone.

Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

From your MC Education & Interpretation Chairperson

This summer provides opportunities to attend the CA-NV Conference UMW 2012 Mission

Education events “So That All May Have Life”. The three study topics are: Haiti, Immigration

and the Bible, and Poverty. The One Day session was held July 28th at New Vision UMC in

Millbrae. The weekend school events are held August 24-26 in Santa Nella and September 21-

23 in Reno. These are great events to meet interesting and knowledgeable speakers and meet

other United Methodist women. I hope you can attend one of these educational events.

During the weekend of July 27-29 the CA-NV Conference UMW, organized by Judy Church,

sponsored “Urban Plunge to the Bay”. The volunteers, about 15 women, stayed at Buena Vista

UMC in Alameda, then came to San Francisco to help at three locations: Mary Elizabeth Inn and

Gum Moon, two residences for women in need owned by the United Methodist church, and

Project Open Hand, providing meals for people in need. I live in San Francisco and had never

been to Mary Elizabeth Inn, so I spent Saturday morning there with 4 others, making 90 lunches

for residents. The director, Dion Roberts, was very helpful and also took us on a tour of the

building. The residents were very thankful. These are places for mission outreach right here in

our district. Later on Saturday there was a dinner at Chinese Community UMC in Oakland with

Missioner Aeri Lee speaking about the church’s support of a primary school in Uganda.

Also, if your unit has fulfilled the requirements for being a Mission Today unit, send the form to

me by September 1 to be recognized at the annual meeting. It’s been an interesting and

educational summer!

Greetings from your Co-Chairpersons MC Membership, Nurture & Outreach

Summer is ending and we are looking forward to fall. Please let me know the names of any of

your members lost through death this past year. They will be remembered at our October 6th

meeting in Woodland. I will need this information as soon as possible. We will be sending out a

membership count reporting sheet later this fall. If you are a small unit we will be contacting

the Presidents. It is very important that we get an accurate number and that we hear from

everyone. Thanks for your assistance.

We hope that you are making good progress on your social action issues that you chose at the

beginning of the year. Here are some books that are on the reading list that have to do with the

immigration and human trafficking social action topics: The Death of Josseline: Immigration

Stories From the Arizona Borderlands, by Margaret Regan, and The Slave Next Door: Human

Trafficking and Slavery in America Today, by Kevin Bales and Ron Soodalter. There are several

other good social action issues that are represented on your book list as well. Remember to look

locally for programs as well as for programs that help out with your chosen social action issue. If
