The Mindanao State University, College of Law Iligan Extension through the initiative of its Assistant Dean, Atty. Alizedney Ditucalan proposed an activity that would express the sentiments among peace advocates to call for an all out peace rather than an all out war, as the country and Mindanao in particular is again faced with challenges brought about by the January 25, Mamasapano incident that divided the Filipino people and placed the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (GPH-MILF) peace talks in peril. Together with the MSU IIT Legal Aid Clinic members, Law student volunteers and class representatives, and college faculty members, conducted a Peace Concert last February 21, 2015, with a theme entitled- ONE BEAT: A Concert for Peace. The One Beat activity was participated by various civil society organizations, members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, The Red Cross and other peace advocates. The said event started with a motorcade around the city displaying placards calling for the rule of Law, Love and Peace. At the outset of the program was a cultural presentation of the Maranao and Higayaon tribal dances. This was followed by a solemn prayer given by Muslim and Christian religious leaders, while the participants lit their candles as a symbolic gesture of sincere desire for peace and unity. Afterwards an emotion slideshow presentation on the present scenario of the armed conflict in Mindanao was shown for people to better understand the importance of Law in achieving Peace in the region. The event then ends with a fun jamming concert by different local bands and a special performance by the AFP. The event which took only 3 days in preparation is a manifestation that indeed most Mindanaons are Pro Peace.

The event which took only 3 days in preparation is a manifestation that indeed most Mindanaons are Pro Peace.Further, it is a serious call for MSU Legal Aid Clinic members to take part since they know exactly the effects of war as most of the members themselves are victims and are witnesses to the ills of war in their communities. It is a noble and proactive endeavor to call for peace amidst the roaring calls for war from people who does not even have a single idea what it is like to be an IDP, to lose their homes, to constantly evacuate and fail to go to school because of war. As sons and daughters of Mindanao, the descendants of long held history of conflicts and efforts of unity and reconciliation, we call for peace since we know it is the only option.
