The microbiocide offers broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection in a range of consumer and industrial liquid cleaning formulations. Formed from glycine, the product may be used by manufacturers seeking to obtain a natural cleaning product label designation. To qualify as an Ecocert ‘natural detergent’, a product must not have more than 5% synthetic content. Certification by the organization indicates that Integra 44 microbiocide enables detergent manufacturers to meet Ecocert’s requirement more easily. The microbiocide is a fast- acting liquid biocide effective in a wide range of formulations and pH values. Easy to use and safe to handle, it is a manufacturing-friendly (broad compatibility with other ingredients, easy to handle) and now an Ecocert-verified choice for preserving liquid detergents in any marketplace. Moreover, it has been demonstrated to be highly effective against gram-positive and gram- negative bacteria and fungi at low use levels. Biocide challenge studies showed that it is effective on organisms such as S aureus, E aerogenes, P vulgaris, P putida, P fluorescens, C albicans and A niger. In detergent, hand soap and fabric softener formulations, Integra 44 microbiocide passed the 30-day challenge test at a low level of 0.20%. A study conducted on patents concerning disinfectants in consumer products covering Jan 2008 to Mar 2013 has shown that many patent applications have been filed in the USA, Europe and Asia over the 5-year period, but the rate of filing did not increase. In contrast, in countries such as Spain, Russia and Austria where the total number of patents filed was low, the numbers are rising. This is indicative of growing consumer interest in disinfectants. Filers are predominantly corporate companies such as Henkel, BASF and Procter & Gamble (P&G), with 363, 342 and 341 patents filed, respectively. This implies potential technology commercialization. Universities in the USA including the University of Columbia and the University of Texas have also sought protection for their research. In terms of chemical ingredients, the data showed that patents on germicidal disinfectants have a lower share and growth compared with patents on antimicrobials, antifungals and antiallergens. The focus is on the addition of halide compounds, particularly fluorides, as disinfectants. Other patents have claimed the use of azoles, peroxides amino compounds and others as active ingredients. Most patents filed were for beauty and personal care followed by fabric care applications. The company will invest $196 M and bring in 300 new jobs in the first phase of the project. Colgate-Palmolive will operate in the 520,000 sq ft former Guardian building in Hodges. Products to be produced at the retrofitted Greenwood facility include men’s Speed Stick deodorant and Softsoap liquid hand soap. The company will ship deodorant to US and global markets, and Softsoap to North American markets. The company is expected to begin accepting applications for positions in Mar 2014. Officials with knowledge of the project said a Colgate-Palmolive plant in New Jersey will eventually be closed to make way for the new facility in Greenwood. In 3Q 2013, Colgate-Palmolive posted sales of $4.4 bn, up 2%. Profits almost stagnated at $656 M. These products are designed for low-temperature automatic dishwashing (ADW) applications. The company has focused on using manganese-based bleach catalysts because manganese is less toxic than many minerals, is an important trace nutrition element and co-factor in enzymatic processes. Peractive MnOx is non-mutagenic, non-toxic, non-sensitizing, non-irritant and safe to use in consumer products. Peractive MnTACN is multi- functional and is excellent in removal of tea stains even at temperatures below 40°C. Peractive MnOx is an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to MnTACN.
