Over 1 billion people in developing

countries are served by unreliable

central grid connections.

• Millions of unmetered accounts.

• DFI investment on the rise to

improve grid infrastructure &

operations.

• Privatization of state utilities

creates opening for new

technology providers.

Over 1.1 billion people do not have

access to electricity.

• Microgrids and grid-extensions

will unlock electricity for most.

• Global utilities (E.On, Engie) and

tech giants (Facebook, Microsoft)

participating in sector.

• Smart meters will be required for

all new microgrid development.

• SparkMeter poised to maintain

dominant market share.

• Need for 5M new microgrid connections and 3M new grid connections each year to reach universal energy access by 2030. Requires total

global investment of $391B in the next 12 years.

• SparkMeter can take market share on new microgrid and grid extension connections while also serving unreliable existing grid

connections.

The needs of the world’s 2 billion without reliable

electricity are rapidly being met.

Deliver electricity to nearly any account – no matter how

small or how far.

Solution 2:

Intelligent grid

management.

Impact:

• Higher reliability and

availability.

• Less demand for

back-up capacity.

Problem 2:

Imbalance

between

We feel that SparkMeter has the lead over other micro-grid metering companies in terms of price, usability, and the open nature of their solution.

Overall, we are very pleased with SparkMeter's system, and plan to use their solution in future micro-grid projects.

• Over 16MM smart meters were deployed in the US under the Smart Grid Investment Grant beginning in 2008 with huge subsidies from the

federal government (https: //www.smartgrid. gov / recovery_act / project_information.html).

• $4.4B to deploy 16MM smart meters at a cost of $272 per connection on average; 38% of the cost spent on communications networks, IT

systems, and other costs.

• At the beginning of the project, the operators have very ambitious ideas on the uses that the AMI / smart project will unlock - but the

complexity of the new meter deployment activities usually push back the most advanced functions.

• The difficulties of the communication networks should not be underestimated (back-haul but also the communication of the meters with the

head-end)

• Over half of AMI implementations in the US do not use AMI for functions beyond remote meter reading

• AMI deployments are on the rise in Southeast Asia (Smart Grids, Smarter Development – Bloomberg NEF, 2019).

• However, long-term adoption is questionable due to high up-front costs and IT complexity.

No specific skills needed for meter installation.

Meters use a standard IEC enclosure that could be installed in a few minutes by anyone with basic electrician training.

Meters use the 2.4 GHz RF band, which is free to use worldwide.

The meter communication is built into the meters and base station, so there’s no need to install a separate meter

communication system or pay additional costs to install or support meter communication. Our network offers a 1km

line of sight range from meter to meter, allowing systems with multi-km radius on a single Base Station.

Plug and play Base Station. The Base Station is a truly plug and play server: once connected to a power source and

turned on, it automatically starts collecting data from meters. It is protected against power outages and reboots the

server gracefully once service resumes.

Built-in features:

• Prepayment configuration, no scratchcards needed

• Agnostic payment systems, including mobile money integration

• Unlimited, customizable tariffs including TOU pricing and block rates

• Intelligent load limiting

• Field alerts for synchronization errors, meter tampering, meter errors

• Loss monitoring for technical and commercial losses

• Secure Single Sign On (SSO) and user management

• API integration to third-party or in-house systems
