Assignment 3 - Self-reflection Preparatory reading for this assignment: Seldin, The teaching portfolio: Purpose, process and product. Se below. Most universities require you to submit a teaching portfolio when you apply for a position or a promotion. Different universities have different requirements on what form the portfolio should have, as well as different criteria for assessment. You can find KTHs guidelines for a position as an assistant professor here: http://intra.kth.se/en/regelverk/personal/rekrytering/bilaga-2-behorighet-och- bedomningsgrunder-for-anstallning-som-lektor-1.456196 The pedagogical self-reflection is the core of the teaching portfolio. It is where you describe your approach to teaching and learning, what goals you have and what principles you use in your pedagogical practice. It is also where you describe how these principles are anchored in and justified by your experiences AND pedagogical theory. You should also reflect upon the outcome – how does your teaching reflect itself in student learning? One tip is to write your reflection based on your own experiences and let the subject in which you teach shine through. Please note that your self-reflection should include all your pedagogical practice. Your pedagogical practice includes the material we have covered in this course, but also merits such as supervising degree projects, Ph.D. students or labs. Furthermore it can include ways in which you as a pedagogical leader, head of department, program leader or colleague promotes the teaching environment for and the educational development of your colleagues, i.e. how you manage the relationship between your tasks in teaching and research. Please note that you should not submit a complete teaching portfolio for this assignment, only the self-reflection. Furthermore, no appendices needs to be handed in. For the purposes of this course, the self-reflection must not exceed 3-4 A4 pages (normal layout). After the deadline, you will get a message stating whether your submitted self-reflection has passed or not. You will then be placed in a group with 3-4 other participants. Read their self- reflections and write a comment, approximately ¼ A4-page, for each group member.
