“At Farewell” 1868

На прощаване в 1868 г.Не плачи, майко, не тъжи,че станах ази хайдутин,

хайдутин, майко, бунтовник,та тебе клета оставих

за първо чедо да жалиш!Но кълни, майко, проклинайтаз турска черна прокуда,дето нас млади пропъдипо тази тежка чужбина -да ходим да се скитаменемили, клети, недраги!

Аз зная, майко, мил съм ти,че може млад да загина,

ах, утре като преминапрез тиха бяла Дунава!Но кажи какво да правя,кат си ме, майко, родила

със сърце мъжко, юнашко,та сърце, майко, не трае

да гледа турчин, че беснейнад бащино ми огнище:

там, дето аз съм пораснали първо мляко засукал,там, дето либе хубавочерни си очи вдигнешеи с оназ тиха усмивка

в скръбно ги сърце впиеше,там, дето баща и братя

черни чернеят за мене!...Ах, мале - майко юнашка!

History of work • “At Farewell“ is a poem by Hristo

Botev.

• The poem is created when Botev was preparing to cross the Danube together with the band of Zhelyu Voivoda in 1868.

• It became popular before the Liberation of Bulgaria and began to spread like a song.

• The copy of the poem was found in the personal notebook of Vasil Levski.

About the Poet• Hristo Botev was born on January 6,

1848 in Kalofer.

• Son of Ivanka Boteva and the teacher Botyo Petkov who influenced him a lot.

• In 1863, after completing his elementary education in Kalofer, Botev was sent by his father to a high school in Odessa.

• Greatly influenced by the Bulgarian revolutionaries who lived in Romania, Botev led a life typical for any revolutionary.

• In 1875 Botev published his poetic works in a book called "Songs and Poems”.

The Plot The poem reveals:

• Bulgarian patriarchal life in the years when Bulgaria was under Ottoman rule

• the difficult choice of many Bulgarian freedom fighters – the moral obligation to the country and the sacrifices they make in the name of their family

• the rebel who knows how to get immortality and spiritual development but it’s the blessing of his mother that he needs

and sucked milk,

• where pretty maid with nice black eyes….and with that quiet smile in her sad heart …..

•where my father and brothers suffer for me!
