Get exact measurements of the space in your kitchen and record them by drawing up a layout on the following blueprint page.

Figure out the space you’re working withMeasure your kitchen. Then measure it again.

Checklist Measure the entire length and height of your walls.

Measure the horizontal distance from the corners to the doors.

Measure anything that protrudes into the room from the fl oor, ceilings or walls. e.g. ventilation shafts, pipes. Be sure to also check inside and behind appliances, cabinets and furniture.

Measure each window and its distance from the fl oor, ceiling and edges of the wall. Also note the thickness of the window frame.

Do the same for the door, and the thickness of the doorframe.

Measure and note the position of existing power outlets and light switches. Also note where you’d like new ones to be.

Mark out the positions of your drains and water supply. If you’re planning to move these, mark down their new positions.
