To date, 196 families have completed the survey. If you would like to give us your input and haven’t had a chance, we will leave the survey open through Wednesday, December 9. In the months to come we will try to address questions or concerns that have been identified in the survey results. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JBYGN3X Survey Comment: What can you tell us about the State Assessments? Kansas College and Career Ready Standards Assessments of English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics are administered annually to all students in grades 3 through 5. The Kansas Assessments in ELA and Mathematics are used to determine proficiency on the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards (KCCRS). State Assessments will be administered in the spring semester at two different intervals. Two Performance Items (one multidisciplinary and one math) will be administered in February to each 3 rd -5 th grade student. Beginning in March students will take the multiple choice section of the assessment. Students will complete three sections of math and three sections of ELA (English Language Arts). These on-line assessments usually take 30-45 minutes per part to complete. Students in 5 th grade will also take the science assessment which is two sections. Last year was the first year to administer the new format of this assessment so our results serve as our baseline. We will use this information to measure our progress moving forward. Families of students in grades four and five received their student’s performance information at our PT Conferences last month. The results for our building are located below. Our Site Council will review our assessment data at our next meeting in January. KCCRS English Results 2014-2015 KCCRS Math Results 2014-2015

Counselor’s Corner:

Happy December.

If you find yourself cleaning out toy chests and clearing

book cases to make room for new toys, please consider a

treasure chest donation of the toys, books, and/or

games that your kids no longer want.

I offer my treasure chest prizes for $20 bobcat bucks. It

is intentionally a lower priced item. It is attainable by all

and gives the kids a positive reason to stop in and say

hello. However, it is also a very popular purchase. I am

quickly running out of items and funds to keep stocking

it. Stuffed animals are especially popular.

Please consider donating your child’s gently used toys to

the counselor’s treasure chest. It is open to all students

at Langston Hughes. Donations can be left in the front

office or brought to my office. You’re also welcome to

send them to school with your child.

Thanks so very much.

Candid pictures needed for yearbook!

We are collecting candid pictures to possibly be used in the Yearbook. Candid pictures may include pictures of parties, music programs, field trips, special events, etc. Pictures that include at least 3 kiddos are fantastic! Higher resolution pictures work the best Please email pictures to Angela Randall [email protected] or submit online directly to Lifetouch: community.lifetouch.com (access code is MAPBHF). Please label all pictures with grade and teacher. Thanks in advance! Yearbook Committee

PTO News: Please join us for our next PTO meeting on December 8 at 6:30 in the library. Bring the kids along for some free winter fun. They will be enjoying hot chocolate and cookies while watching THE POLAR EXPRESS. There will also be a fun craft project for them. Don't miss out on this fun! The PTO board has moved to make a slight adjustment to the PTO bylaws. Currently the PTO president, VP, treasurer, and school secretary are permitted to sign checks issued by PTO. It has been purposed to change this to allow the PTO president, VP, treasurer, and (PTO) secretary to sign checks. This will be voted on for change at the next PTO meeting. Langston Hughes Family Movie Night will be January 15 at 6:30 at the school. Please join us for some family fun! We are still in need of a Carnival committee chair and someone to organize concessions for carnival. Please contact Sarah Hoskinson ([email protected]) if you are interested.

Thanks to all who donated to our annual fundraiser through Direct Donation. Sarah Hoskinson – PTO President 785-979-1690 / [email protected]

~Bobcat Marathon Club Update~

Monday Morning December 7th, we will have hot chocolate and muffins to celebrate

the great success on the trail this year! *weather permitting

In addition, Wednesday afternoon December 9th, we will celebrate the end of the fall

session and welcome winter with the annual Jingle Run! *weather permitting

All make-up miles from the fall session will need to be submitted by December 31st,

2015. Currently, there are 6 make up miles available (3 miles maximum for each

outing,) and we will update the total if more sessions are cancelled. Organized Fun

Runs and 5Ks during the school year can always be submitted in addition to make up

miles!

PLEASE hang onto those “BOBCAT TRACKERS,” and don’t let them out of the

backpack. We will need them again when Marathon Club resumes hopefully in

February of 2016.

The Fall Session has been great! The kids have already run over 3800 miles, we have

had 30 finishers, and 27 kids participate in organized Fun Runs and 5Ks outside of

marathon club! Way to go Bobcats!! We look forward to starting again in the spring

and bringing home even more finishers!

*Weather permitting- If we need to cancel either of these events,

we will try for the following week.
