There are only days left before the March 1 deadline is here, so don't wait until the last minute. Enter your best work in the last two years very soon for the 69th Annual National Exhibit of Texas Watercolor Society.

Entries must be original and must be only water media (no collage) on 100% rag or cotton paper. A minimum size of 10" x 14" is required with no side longer than 42". Your entries must be for sale and must stay in the exhibit until it ends. The artist will receive 60% of the sale, Hill Country Arts Foundation (HCAF)will take 30% and TWS, 10%.

Artists must be 18 or over. TWS members can enter 1-3 paintings for $45; non-members can enter one painting for $60. If you are not a member, your work will not count towards signature membership in TWS. You may join TWS by using the membership form on the back of this newsletter.

A detailed prospectus is online which gives instructions for submitting either digital or compact disk entries.

Juror for the show is Laurie Goldstein-Warren, winner of the TWS show in 2016 and a Purple Sage member of TWS. She is a nationally recognized watercolor artist now living in West Virginia. Laurie will determine paintings to go in the show from digital and CD submissions and then determine winners when she sees all the paintings ready to hang.

Between March 19-21, accepted paintings will be posted on the TWS website. If you are shipping your painting, directions will be sent to you and it must be received by April 11; hand delivered

Workshops

Warren will show how to make cityscapes sparkle

Laurie Goldstein-Warren's website says, "I found my voice in art; find yours...Create!"

This is her aim as she teaches workshops throughout the country and abroad. She dabbled in a number of creative fields before turning to painting. She tells the story of her journey:

"I have been painting watercolors for seventeen years. Art has always been a part of my life. When I was young, ballet, tap and jazz dancing was my creative outlet. I was a dancer in the Rochester Academy of Performing Arts dance troupe until the age of 18. Later on my creative path took me to hair styling. I opened my own salon in New York and competed in fantasy hair competitions. I loved these particular shows because you had to create something never seen before, more avante garde than styles you would see on the street. When I moved to West Virginia in 1998 and found myself in the countryside, I went back to one of my first creative loves, art."

Laurie will be the juror for the TWS 69th Annual National Exhibition this year. After she judges the exhibition, she will give a free demo on April 16 from 6-8 p.m. and then a three-day workshop beginning April 17 and ending April 19. Her focus will be Cityscapes that Sparkle.

This workshop is a relatively new theme for Laurie, although she has long loved cityscapes.

But this workshop for intermediate to advanced watercolorists features her limited palette in watercolor and/or acrylic. There will be masking and pouring techniques as well as texture tools, such as the toothbrush and mouth atomizer. Students can paint night scenes in the city that sparkle and shine!

To her workshop students, she says, "In every

workshop, I promise you will learn lots of techniques to take home and implement in your own work (and we have a lot of fun too!)"

She has exhibited her work in the U.S., Japan, Turkey, Canada and China. She travels and teaches workshops across the United States. Her works focus on cityscapes, portraits and still life.
