The ATLAS-FP project proposes new detectors to complement ATLAS and CMS by installing additional near beam detectors 420m from the interaction point. Here we are carrying out thermal simulations on the proposed detector design.
On the left we can see the temperature distribution across the superlayer, the right shows a close up of the hottest detector chip
Future simulations will use a modified beam pipe and will look at parasitic heat loads from 5 superlayers in a single station
