REGULATIONS

1. All animals must be the bona-fide property of the Exhibitor.

2. Entries will only be accepted if accompanied by the correct entry fee.

3. All entries, with the exception of horses, donkeys and the domestic section are to be in the Showground no later than 8.45am and remain until 4.00pm. Domestic section all entries to be displayed by 6.30pm on Friday evening and to remain until 4.30pm on Saturday. This will be strictly adhered to.

4. All animals bought into the Showground shall be subject to the orders, regulations and rules of the Association or Officers appointed by them. Cases of disobedience of orders will be reported to the Committee who reserve the right to disqualify a defaulter.

5. All animal exhibitors must have adequate third party insurance.

6. No unsound horse shall be eligible to win a prize.

7. Correctly secured British Standard Skull Caps/Riding hats Nos. PAS015, EN1384, ASTMF1163, that meet current safety standards, must be worn by children at all times when mounted. Also these safety hats must be worn by all riders when jumping.

8. In awarding the prizes to the cattle and sheep, the judges will be instructed to take into consideration their relative merits for breeding purposes.

9. Any person making a false entry or giving a wrong description will be disqualified from taking a prize if awarded, such prize and all lesser prizes in that class, passing to the animals following in order of merit, except in such cases as the Schedule Committee shall decide otherwise.

10. Exhibitors of Bulls over 10 months of age must ensure that two people accompany the bull at all times when competing or moving the animal to and from the cattle lines to the ring. No bulls born before 1st January 2016 can be exhibited in the Junior Stockperson Classes.

11. All cattle entered will be double tied and must be suitably trained. All sheep will be in pens.

12. The Schedule Committee reserve to themselves the right to withhold any prize, make any alterations they deem necessary and also to settle any protest or dispute that may arise.

13. Any person making a protest shall, within one hour from the time the class is judged, deposit £5 with the General Secretary and if the protest is not upheld the money shall be forfeited to the Association. Should a protest be lodged relative to the age of any animal the same will be decided by the relevant Society’s Herd Book or by the Association’s Honorary Veterinary Surgeon and Dentition Rules.

14. The Association will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury, which persons, stock or exhibits whatsoever may sustain, except where provided for in statute.

15. The Organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all the Officials and Stewards.

16. The Showground will be open for the reception of implements and equipment on the day before the Show until 8.00pm.

Notes:

All cattle entries must comply with DEFRA regulations in force at the time of the show. Liskeard Agricultural Show Holding Number 07/156/8002. All movements must be reported to the British Cattle Movement Service. Details will be sent with passes etc. for those who have entered. (Adhesive labels bearing the show site holding number are available.) All cattle must be double tied. Exhibitors of Bulls over 10 months of age must ensure that two people accompany the bull at all times when competing or moving the animal to and from the cattle lines to the ring. No bulls born before 1st January 2016 can be exhibited in the Junior Stockpersons Classes. Due to the changes to TB pre-movement testing exemptions no cattle can remain on the showground for longer than a 24 hour period.

The Association will make available to exhibitors a milking bail, kindly supplied by the Dairy Centre Ltd. Please could exhibitors bring their own milking units.

All cups should be signed for and collected from the Livestock Office after the Grand Parade.

Would exhibitors please ensure that they enter for Special Exhibitors Prizes on the entry form.

Classes may be amalgamated if there are fewer than three entries in each section. Exhibitors must live within the area marked on the map on page 11 to qualify for local classes and specials.

Entry Fees: All classes £4.00 per entry. Show Members £3.50 per entry. Prizes: 1st £20; 2nd £12; 3rd £6; 4th £4. (4th prize money will not be awarded in classes for four entries or fewer)

Supreme Cattle Championship Specials C1-C3 will be judged after the Dairy Interbreed Championship by Mr C J Hutchings, Dulverton, Somerset

C1 Grand Challenge Cup presented by HRH Duke of Windsor for the best exhibit in the Cattle Classes. To be competed for annually. Also a Sash, presented by Rosettes of Quality for the Supreme Champion Animal.

C2 A trophy, presented by Mr & Mrs R Gillbard, for the best group of 3 females being first prize group winners from each breed. To be competed for annually.

C3 The J R West Perpetual Cup for the local exhibitor gaining most points in the cattle classes.

Dairy Interbreed Special Prizes C4-C8 will be judged following the Dairy Breed Classes at approximately 11.45am by Mrs J Targett, Castle Cary, Somerset

C4 The J Sobey Perpetual Cup for the Best Pair of Dairy Animals, any breed, any age, any sex, both animals to be the property of the same owner. This is an open class; enter on your entry form. No entry fee.

C5 The T M Stanier Grand Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Best Heifer of any recognised dairy breed, which has not had a calf. One exhibit in each breed will be nominated by the section judge.

C6 The W J Parsons Jubilee Challenge Trophy for the Best Local Dairy Animal in the Cattle classes. To be competed for annually. One exhibit in each breed will be nominated by the section judge.

C7 Liskeard Town Council Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Best Dairy Cow (dry or in milk) or Heifer in milk. One exhibit in each breed will be nominated by the section judge


C8 The Lynher Farms Cup, presented by Michael Horrell, for the Champion Dairy Animal in classes 24-42. To be competed for annually. Beef Interbreed Special Prizes C9-C12 will be judged following the Beef Breed classes at approximately 12.30pm by Mr C J Hutchings, Dulverton, Somerset.

C9 The QT Services Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Best Calf of any beef breed born in 2016. This is an open class; enter on your entry form. No entry fee.

C10 The Minerva Cup, for the Best Pair of Beef Animals, any breed, any age, any sex, both animals to be the property of the same owner. To be competed for annually. This is an open class; enter on your entry form. No entry fee.

C11 The Calweton Cup for the Best Local Animal in the Beef Classes. To be competed for annually. One exhibit for each breed will be nominated by the section judge.

C12 The JB Stanier Perpetual Challenge Cup for the best Beef Animal in classes 1-23 to be competed for annually.

C45 The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association – Cornish Points Championship This show is one of five (Camborne, Camelford, Launceston, Liskeard and Stithians) at which points will be offered towards Prizes of 1st £100 and 2nd £50 in open cattle classes for the exhibitors gaining the most points over the 2016 Cornish summer show season. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st prize 3 points, 2nd prize 2 points, 3rd prize 1 point and exhibits must be entered under the same names at the relevant shows to be eligible.

The Mole Valley Rose Bowl. A perpetual trophy to be competed for in the South Devon Breed Class at the following shows: Royal Cornwall, Liskeard Show, Stithians Show, Launceston Show, Camborne Show, Camelford Show and Penryn Show. Only Members of the Truro South Devon Cattle Club are eligible to compete. Eligible animals must be entered or accepted for entry in the Herd Book of the South Devon Herd Book Society. One point will be awarded to each animal presented for judging (excluding calves at foot):- 1st = 5pts, 2nd = 4pts, 3rd = 3pts, 4th = 2pts. Group classes are included e.g. 1 point for each animal in the group and 5 points for the winning group. Specials are not included.

C43 The WP & SL Harper Cup for the best opposite sex to the Champion South Devon. To be competed for annually.

C44 The Stuart Rowe Memorial Cup for the best group of three South Devon females, the winner of Class 6. To be competed for annually.

Special Prizes: C32 The F J Harris Perpetual Cup for the Champion Holstein in the show. To be competed for

annually. C33 The Holstein UK and Ireland offers a Championship rosette to the exhibitor of the female

champion. The reserve will also receive a rosette. C34 The Holstein UK and Ireland also offers:

a. A Best Exhibitor Bred rosette, to the exhibitor of the best Holstein bred by the exhibitor. b. A Best Udder rosette to the exhibitor of the Holstein with the best udder in the show. c. A Junior Champion rosette to the exhibitor of the best Holstein entry calved less than

three years of age. C35 The Philip Gorman Memorial Trophy, presented by Angela Furness of Tregonnett, for the

Best Heifer in Milk (winner of class 33). To be competed for annually. C36 A Perpetual Cup presented by the Cornish Holstein Club for the exhibitor gaining most

points for prizes won in the Holstein Classes, with the exception of the group class. To qualify for entry, each exhibitor must be a member of the Cornwall Holstein Club and their herd is resident within the county of Cornwall. Points awarded:- 1st = 5pts, 2nd = 4pts, 3rd = 3pts, 4th = 2pts, 5th = 1pt.

C37 The BOCM/SILCOCK Challenge Cup presented by Messrs BOCM/Silcock, for a Holstein Cow of Heifer scoring most points for conformation, milk yield and butterfat, for the officially recorded lactation completed after 30th May 2015 and or not more than 305 days. A National Milk Records certificate MUST BE ENCLOSED WITH ENTRY FORM. 80 points to be awarded to the Best Animal for conformation with the remaining animals on a descending scale; 5 points for each 453.5kgs (1,000 lbs) milk yield 3 points for each 0.1% over 3.5% butterfat. Animals with an average butterfat of less than 3.3% will not be eligible to compete.

Junior Stockpersons

Competitors to prepare and show a calf of any breed or cross. Calves must be of a suitable size and temperament for the handler. No bulls born before 1st January 2016 can be exhibited in the Junior Stockperson Classes. Marks to be awarded as follows: 60% Leader’s ability to parade the

animal, 40% turn-out of the leader and calf. Class:

43 Open to Junior Stockpersons who have not reached their 12th birthday on the day of the show, leading a Beef Calf born after 1st January 2016.

44 Open to Junior Stockpersons aged 12–16 years old on the day of the show, leading a Beef Animal born after 1st January 2015. No bulls born before 1st January 2016.

45 Open to Junior Stockpersons who have not reached their 12th birthday on the day of the show, leading a Dairy Calf born after 1st January 2016.

46 Open to Junior Stockpersons aged 12–16 years old on the day of the show, leading a Dairy Animal born after 1st January 2015.

Special Prizes: J1 A Perpetual Challenge Cup presented by Mr T Heller for the Champion Beef Junior

Stockperson in classes 43 and 44. To be competed for annually. J2 Trophy presented by M&S Hauliers, for the Champion Dairy Junior Stockperson in classes

45 and 46. To be competed for annually J3 The Steve Hoskin Silver Medal. Mr Steve Hoskin has kindly presented a Silver Medal to

the South Devon Herd Book Society, Cornwall Region and the Truro South Devon Cattle Club, for the young person up to and not including 16 years of age, gaining the most points in Cornish Shows with a South Devon or South Devon Cross Calf. This Show is one where points will be gained to count towards the Special Prize.

Intermediate Stockperson Competitors to prepare and show an animal of any breed or cross. No bulls born before 1st January 2015. Marks to be awarded as follows: 60% Leader’s ability to parade the animal, 40% turn-out of the leader and calf. Class:

Local Classes: The area that qualifies for the local specials is east of the River Fowey to Lostwithiel. The B3268 to the A30, south of the A30 from the B3268 to the River Tamar and west of the River Tamar. Please see the map for details.

The first three go forward to the Championship at the Hickstead Derby Meeting in JUNE 2017. All entries MUST be registered with the ROR and include their registration number on entry form and have RACED in GB. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force. Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series. The class to be judged 50% jumping, 20% style while jumping and performance and 30% awarded for show, manners and suitability to be retrained.

PHASE 1 Jumping to be judged: 8 rustic jumps (2’ 6” to 3’ with a maximum spread of 85 centimetres). The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round: 10 points to be deducted for a knock down. 15 points to be deducted for a refusal. 20 points for second refusal. Elimination for 3rd refusal or fall.

PHASE 2 Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation. (In some classes, at the judge’s discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without leaving the ring. This is often the case with a large number in the class). Each horse to complete an individual show of no longer than 1½ minutes. Show to include the following movements: Walk, trot, canter showing change of leg, extended canter (gallop) halt and stand, walk off on long rein. Total marks out of 30% for show, manners and suitability to be retrained. Fences for the final at Royal Windsor can be up to a maximum of 3’6”.

YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB COMPETITIONS

Special Prizes: The Ruth Sargent Cup will be awarded to the club which gains the most points for prizes overall in the YFC Section. Points will be awarded 1st: 3 points, 2nd: 2 points 3rd: 1 point. In the event of a tie, the Young Farmer with most first prizes will win the cup. A silver salver presented by Mrs M Crapp to be awarded to the Young Farmer (Female) of any Club, with the highest individual score. A perpetual cup presented by Avon Farmers Ltd to be awarded to the Young Farmer (Male) of any club, with the highest individual score.

No staple guns to be used on niches, use double sided tape or Bluetac, please remove when dismantling your entry.


RECIPES

Class 4: Tea bread:

Ingredients: 6oz dried mixed fruit and 4oz brown sugar soaked overnight in 6 fl oz of cold tea. 8oz self-raising flour, 1 egg beaten. Method: Mix beaten egg with tea soaked fruit and sugar, fold in the flour, mix well and place in a well-greased 1lb loaf tin. Cook at 160°C/325°F/Gas 3 for 1 - 1¼ hours. Allow to cool in tin for 5 minutes, turn out onto wire rack and leave to cool completely.

Class 12: Sultana & Orange Cake:

Ingredients: 4oz sultanas, 4oz margarine, 8oz self-raising flour, 2 eggs, 1 orange (finely grated zest and juice), 4oz demerara sugar (plus extra for sprinkling on cake before cooking). Method: Pre heat the oven to 175°C/350°F/ Gas 4. Cream sugar and margarine with grated zest, add beaten eggs, sifted flour and stir in fruit. Add the juice last and mix gently. Put into a lined 2 lb loaf tin or lined 7’ round cake tin. Sprinkle extra demerara sugar on top of cake before putting into the oven on the middle shelf for approx. Bake for 1 hour until golden brown.

Class 13: Cherry Shortbread Fingers

Ingredients: 100g (4oz) plain flour, 50g (2oz) corn flour, 100g (4oz) butter, 50g (2oz) caster sugar, 50g (2oz) glaze cherries (chopped). Caster sugar to decorate. Method: Pre heat the oven to 160°C/325°F/ Gas 3. Grease a 17.5cm (7’) square tin. Sift together flours a couple of times, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Work in the flours and chopped cherries. Knead well together. Press mixture into tin and bake for approx. 35 minutes until a very pale golden brown. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with caster sugar and mark into 12 fingers. Leave the shortbread to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling wire.
