Term 3, Week 9 21st September 2017

Dear Parents and Caregivers

It was wonderful to see all of you at the Hub School Sport’s Day at Watervale

yesterday. Watching our students enjoying themselves, cheering and getting into

the spirit of the day which was about having fun and doing your best.

As I watched our children

competing and you, their

parents encouraging our

students, I reflected on

the importance of being

present in the moment.

Being present, using our

whole being to extract and

engage with the full

potential of the moment.

Sometimes as a busy

person I can miss these

moments when I attempt

to multitask and worry

about tasks I have yet to complete. In the moment I am therefore not present and

can loose the opportunities to engage in conversations with others around me and

miss cues when I am not engaged in the present.

Recently I attended the Australian Primary Principal’s Conference in Brisbane. This

conference was about being an agile leader in times of change. What I took away

from this was the message that when we are present that we were better

positioned to cope with change in our fast paced world. As we are listening and

picking up on cues, it is easier to respond appropriately to our children. It is also

important that we are clear about the purpose of activities for children otherwise

it is very hard for them to understand what we are expecting of them and they

worry about this rather than being able to be present in the moment.

It has been very pleasing to see so many families attending the three way

interviews. Students have been very excited to lead the interviews, share their

learning progress and set future learning goals.

Happy Holidays!

Last Saturday we finally got to release 200 rainbow

trout fingerlings into our Aquaponics Garden

system. It has taking a long time as we needed to

make sure that we had a shelter in place before

Summer so they would stay in cooler water.

Taryn Senar picked them up for us in Adelaide and

then we met the YEL students and parents at

school and put them in the pond. It was great to

see them all swimming around although they

quickly disappeared under the water where the

water was murkier.

We were lucky to receive $300 in a funding grant

from Landcare Australia to purchase both the pump

and the fish.

We thank the Governing Council, Phil, our parents,

Mrs O’Dea and Ms Thompson for helping us finish

this project. Will, Tegan, Emily & Ben.

Reminder There are no Kitchen Garden

Lessons in Week 10, (next week) The

lessons resume in Week 2 of next

term. Please make sure your child brings their lunch on the day

they would normally have cooking.

All donations of food, plants and livestock are greatly

appreciated, we ask that you chat to Phil before donating any

items to make sure his programming is not affected.

Unlocking your Child’s Potential and Learning through Strength-Based Parenting

Join us on Monday 25th September at 7pm in our school library for a Webinar and FREE Supper with Lea

Waters about how we can help our children discover their strengths and talents, how to use positive

emotions as a resource, how to build strong brains and even how to deal with problem behaviours and talk

about difficult situations and emotions.

Lea’s recently published book, The Strength Switch will also be available for purchase for $20 on the night.

Max Fatchen Literary Awards

Congratulations to Connor McDermid for coming second place in the Max Fatchen

Literary Awards, Years 3-5 Category with his poem, Seasons.

Seasons

In Summer I love swimming And playing tennis outside I pump the bike tires up And go for a ride In Autumn I watch leaves drop Falling slowly to the ground And once I find one, I look up And see them all around In Winter I kick the footy Even though it’s cold as ice And when it’s time for tea I like eating fried rice

In Spring I get annoyed It really can’t decide Whether it’s wet or sunny It’s quite crazy outside Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring There are lots of ways they’re not the same But I don’t care, I like them all They’re all special that’s my claim Connor McDermid Age:11 Grade:5 Auburn Primary School
