Interpretation

The information that we would want our audience to receive from our trailer, is to always take advice from your parents and also to be aware of men. In order for this message to be transferred to my audience, through dialogue. In a particular scene we have Red Riding Hood’s Mother warning her about the path she should take to her Grandmother’s house.

ExpectationDue to the fact that our genre is thriller, our audience will expect to be kept excited, under the spell of suspense and also some psychological aspects. We aim to do this in the way that we carry the witch, she will be the main reason as to why they will be psychologically thrilled, they will never see the face of the witch, which will heighten interest, making the audience want to watch the film. Also in the way that the witch is dressed, she wont be dressed in the typical olden days of how witches will be dressed. Our audience will only expect to be frightened, we will also add some aspects of action within the trailer, through the chase we have add the end of the trailer.

The ways in which we have placed the characters will heighten suspense, we aim to trick our audience, by having the witch, followed by the huntsman then Red Riding Hood. Our audience will expect to see think more, this requires them to do so, they will have to accurately put the film together.

verbal warning to Red Riding Hood

This way that we have decided to do this, will help the formation of the narrative. All fairy tales aim to have the typical warning, where t

Place of Audience in the production process

We aim to make our audience feel uncomfortable through the fact that at the particular age of 15 upwards, their characteristics tend to make them disobey. So our trailer aims to show many different positions the thrilling idea of disobeying and exploring the world and also the idea of danger. By doing this we aim to make parents feel some support as this piece of media is aimed at changing the disobeying character in most teens. Others who may not have any direct feelings towards these presented ideas are made to make their own judgment.

Positioning in relation to the product

The trailer will treat the audience as naïve, through the way in which they take joy in Red Riding Hood exploring the world. The trailer presents the audience will a series of ideas, disobeying, danger and rebellious attitudes. The audience will be made to work to really question who indeed is the actual victim in this trailer, which in real life we all have to do when certain crimes are committed who in deed is the real victim. We often judge the offender instead of looking at how the victim may have caused the abuse for themselves, we aim to make our audience very judgmental and change their attitudes.

Identification

‘The way in which the audiences feel an attachment to things or characters within a media text’ The relationship between Red Riding Hood and her mother, through their relationship the audience will be able to feel very personal feelings towards their very close relationship, we aim to do this by having Red Riding Hood’s Mother speak to her and show very obvious forms of affection. Also through the fact she doesn’t heed to the warning presented to her, those who have been in her position will be able to relate to warnings and problems that follow when one doesn’t obey.

Engagement

The reaction to this trailer is likely to be stronger through the fact it is aimed directly at a certain age group, 15 and above. As the fairy tale is a very popular one the audience will be able to identify the message and idea behind the work. The notion of obedience and the idea of what happens when one doesn’t obey. Due to the fact that Red Riding Hood may loose her life in the actual movie, our trailer aims to change the idea of rebelling, and to make those who disobey feel very uncomfortable, through the character of the witch. The fact that we can see her and the characters in the trailer cant see her, it creates dramatic irony again, drawing in the attention of the audience.

Mode of address

The trailer aims to speak directly to the audience through the use of speech, we aim to have the characters speak directly to the audiences and also through their actions. Our trailer aims to make points so generally it can easily be recognisable within our audience of 15+. The danger makes our audience feel uncomfortable as it shows facts about the dangers older and more experienced people try to shield us from, through the relationship between Red Riding Hood and her mother.

Influence

How will our trailer influence the audience? The fact that Red Riding Hood inflicts danger upon herself our trailer aims to change the views our audience may have of purposely disobeying certain rules. Also we want our audience to see exactly what may happen when they disobey. Considering the fact that our trailer is supposed to tease the audience we will never show the resolution to the problem until they watch the actual trailer. Also the use of younger characters shows that danger may even happen to them or someone around their age group if care is not taken. We aim to use our trailer as a way of exciting and creating suspense amongst our audience but also as a way of warning them.

CERTIFICATES.The 15 certificate is issued by the British Board of Film Classification to state that, in its opinion, a film, video recording , or game should

not be purchased by a person under 15 year old.

We have tailored our trailer around this age group, we have

done this because we felt that the thriller best appeals to this age

group and certain aspects of the trailer will not be offensive to

younger viewers. We didn’t want to have 18

certificate because we wanted to include younger people and

considering it was already a child fairy tale we took all these

variables into account. We will show our certificate at the beginning of our trailer similar to

real media texts.

By using a range of taglines, this helps to hype of the movie. The way in which an adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood, the us a red background has been related to the red cloak in which Red Riding Hood wears. By using the colour red, it draws the audience attention immediately to the trailer, and holds their attention. By placing the writing in white, it brings the information to the forefront of the audiences gaze. Also by using this type of font, it will help with the genre, the audience will already know what kind of genre the film is. By using taglines it will help break up the fast cuts and to draw attention to particular scenes. It will aim to build up audience expectations. The music that was used whilst the taglines were presented, was very fast paced, loud music, using mostly bass instruments, by doing this it will heighten tension and draw in the audience straight into the taglines. Also these help to build the crescendo, because it is accompanied with high tempo SFX music. Also by using white text on red background which is typical of the thriller genre to create tension and anticipation. The use of font is particularly important the larger the font the more the audience are forced to take in the information automatically. The use of older English text plays with the idea that the trailer is from an older period in time, by doing this the trailer establishes genre and the placement of the audience. By using the colour red which is an alarming colour the audience will be more likely to concentrate more on the information presented.

It refers to an establish audience, this piece of media text is aimed at a particular audience.

The word ‘breath-taking’, again will heighten the audience expectations. It will also draw them into the trailer, keeping them, informed.

The use of animation here, the wood has been animated in black to add the fairy tale effect the film, the text is in white, directly in the woods, almost enticing the audience to concentrate more on the text presented.

By presenting the names of actors the audience creates expectation. The audience are familiar with these actors, again enticing them to watch the movie. This acts as a way of luring the audience into the trailer, through the use of animated forest.

This helps create the narrative of the trailer. Presenting facts to the audience.

The use of white writing on a red background the audience are forced to concentrate on the trailer.

This trailer aims to advertise the actors within the trailer. In doing this the trailer establishes an audience. Also in the first snap shot we can see a hand print entrenched with blood, by doing this the trailer has already established a genre, we know the trailer will have some aspects of thriller and horror within it. Also the use of fading text will make the audience pay attention to the information more. Also the use of text by placing the text in the far corner the audience will automatically follow the information, taking it in. The use of colour also helps create the genre, the use of thriller genre, by fading text. Also by using the bright colour of yellow the audience are already attracted to the text taking in the information.

The use of fading text will keep the audience more concentrated on the trailer. The audience will have to concentrate into the trailer, in order to pick the information. The way in which the text has been made to look scratched also helps establish the genre. the font has been made larger than the previous ones so the audience automatically establish importance with the set piece of information.

INTERTITLES What is an intertitle? An intertitle helps form the narrative, this is used as a way of mixing text with images. By doing this it will intrigue the audience, and hold their attention. By using the intertitle the narrative is created, the audience can pinpoint the basic outline of the trailer, and it acts as a way of advertising the narrative to the audience, leaving them wanting more.

As the information is placed on the screen, the audience take in the information, as this trailer ‘Captivity’ uses it to show statistics, the information is placed in white font, popularly used by thriller genre. Through text the audience can establish the kind of genre the trailer is and it also caters to the chosen target audience of 18+. Also the size of font is important, this trailer uses relatively large font, so its clear for the audience to see. Also by using the colour white on a black background, will draw the attention of the audience directly to the text. This trailer aims to hold attention by strobing text, that strobes from one side of the screen to the other, the audience automatically follow the text, this keeps them interested within the trailer, and teases them.

Page 11: Audiences (taglines and inter titles) 2

In this trailer ‘Forget Me Not’, they use intertitle as a way of directly proposing questions to the audience. By doing this the audience will keep concentration throughout the trailer and will feel more included in the actual plot of the trailer. The repetition of the word ‘remember’ will keep the audiences attention, captivating their concentration. The use of glow to the font again holds attention, feeding the audience information. Also by placing this luminous green colour on black background the audience, automatically take in the information. In comparison to the ‘Captivity’ trailer, this trailer proposes questions and uses different colour to the text, in addition to this trailer doesn’t use a background image, which is more effective in keeping the audience interested in the trailer, rather than the beautiful sights placed behind the image.

When looking at how my team will use intertitles we then came up with idea of mixing questions with taglines as a way of advertising the trailer but also as a way of making the audience feel included within the product.
