Notes from President Susan Seay
Having a good Summer Homemakers??!!! My Summer has been extremely busy with work, with preparing another Great Year for Homemakers. New events, new officers, new plans, and hopefully new Clubs for the coming year are being planned for our new year of Homemakers.
With working on the closing of last year, I noticed as well as the other Ladies whom assisted in tallying the results, that not many Clubs are reporting activities of your year!! Makes us wonder if you realize the importance of the Chair Reports, the Volunteer Service Unit Hours, the Club of the Year reports?
We are McCracken County Homemakers are mandated by State level Extension Homemakers to participate in the provided reports for the continuation of our Extension Service and our Agent on the County level!! Didn’t know this, did you? If you do not participate in these activities and report your activities for your community and your Homemaker’s community, we could lose funding, lose our Agent, lose our Extension Service. We really do not want this to happen, especially with our new building coming along!
So you do matter with what you do in your community, and your Homemakers. So take a few minutes each time you do a helpful task for your community, attend a lesson, attend your Club meeting, prepare a lesson to give, reach out to others, whatever you do to better someone else life write this down on the Volunteer Service Unit worksheet located in the yearbook. Be proud of what you do and let us know it for the sake of our beloved Homemakers.
I really appreciate the work from those who devote endless hours just keeping us afloat with each year. I also appreciate the Staff of our Extension Office working with us endlessly assisting us to accomplish what we do each year. As my last year as your President, help me keep Extension Homemakers going forever more by reporting your activities. Let’s keep Homemakers alive, forever more.

A new program has started through the Merryman House, which is the domestic violence shelter in Paducah that covers all of the purchase area, as well as many people from Livingston and Lyon who seek services through there. The program is called Birthday Builders. Through this program the staff at the Merryman House are looking for volunteers who would be willing to bake a cake/donate a $25 Toys R Us gift card/dressup in a costume/etc to make the birthdays of children who are staying in the shelter just a little more special.
Each child would be given a gift card for their present and then a Merryman House staff member would take them to the store to spend their money. If you are interested in helping please let me know by calling or emailing [email protected].
