LEARN Abortion is not health care. Abortion advocates speak as if abortion is health care, a procedure that is morally and emotionally equivalent to surgically removing one’s tonsils or appendix. It is often conveyed as so morally neutral that only a few religious outliers find it objectionable. Yet in reality, the vast majority, over 85% of OB/GYNs, coming from many faiths or no faith refuse to be associated with or perform an abortion.1 In addition, according to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, 86% of hospitals were not involved in abortion.2 Finally, even Roe acknowledges that abortion is unlike other procedures performed by a health professional and that unborn children deserve some protection.3 Abortion is not health care, and we do a disservice to women and health care providers to pretend it is.
FOR MARRIED COUPLES WHO HAVE RECEIVED THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY You are invited to attend a special set of 6 nights that you won’t want to miss! Please join us as we take part in a new marriage enrichment series called “United in Love, United in Christ” and designed to make a powerful impact on your faith and your marriage. This program explores God’s awesome plan and promise for spouses. It provides practical steps in building on what St. John Paul II taught to be the “infallible” and “indispensable” way to a truly united and faithful love. The sessions will be on Thursdays from September 20 - October 25 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the CNE. Come and meet other great couples from our Parish, listen to powerful presentations, and spend quality time with your spouse. Registration will take place on August 18 and 19 after all Masses. A donation of $20.00 per couple is required to cover study materials. There is room for 20 couples. For more information, contact the Marriage Preparation office at 383-3728 - option 6.
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS The Parish Office will be closed from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, until further notice. Thank you.
Announcements WELCOME BACK! We would like to welcome all the students who will be starting classes this week at St. Joseph Catholic School. Please keep them in your prayers.

COLLECTIONS If you are donating to multiple collections, PLEASE make a separate check for St. Vincent De Paul. St. Vincent has its own checking account, and placing all collections in one check makes it more difficult to separate. The rest of the collections can be done with one check, for example Sunday’s and the Capital Campaign. Thank you for your generosity, and may the Lord continue to bless you and your family. **REMINDER: all checks must be written in either black or blue ink.**
Donations NEW ALTAR The restoration of the “Stillman” altar is well underway. We are looking forward to the installation of the altar in August and its dedication by Bishop Flores on September 18. This historic altar was given by the Stillman family of Brownsville to Mercy Hospital in 1923. When the hospital closed, Fr. Norbert Deddens acquired it and moved it here in the 1970’s. Unfortunately, it was removed and the current movable wooden altar was put in. The mensa (table top) of the altar was found a few years ago, and we began the process of looking into having it restored. Impetus was given for this project when Bishop Flores, as per canon law, encouraged all churches to have fixed altars. Its restoration is a significant event for the history of our Diocese. The cost of this renovation will be approximately $34,000. We have already received some substantial donations toward this project. We are inviting parishioners to consider giving toward this restoration as we continue our efforts of beautifying the house of the Lord. Thank you.
Please patronize our Sponsor of the Week

RCIA News THE SACRAMENTS OF CONFIRMATION AND
HOLY COMMUNION Confirmation is the perfection of Baptism, and it gives us the grace to live our life as a Christian…boldly and
without shame. Holy Communion unites us more closely to Jesus Christ and helps us to grow in grace
by living a more Christian life. Adults 18 years (college) of age and older who are baptized in the Catholic Church and are interested in Sacramental Preparation to complete their Sacraments of Initiation are invited to attend a social on Thursday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. inside the RCIA Conference Room. Diocesan Guidelines for Sacramental Catechesis will be provided at that time along with registration information. Adult Sacramental Preparation (ASP) will begin on Sunday, September 9 from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. and will meet weekly. You may contact Carmen Flores at 383-3728 - option 6 or via email at [email protected] for more information.
