Simply rinse or remove excess product from the recyclable and set aside to bring to SJA on the collection date. Please note that any bottles that have a recycle number of 1, 2, 5, or 7 should be placed in the curbside recycling bin. Please see the list below and start collecting your items!

Mary was always a virgin, both in conceiving Jesus, giving birth to him, and remaining virgin ever after. God granted her this privilege to emphasize that this was a unique moment in history—the birth of Jesus who is the Son of God and the Son of Mary. The liturgy of the Church speaks of Mary as “ever virgin.” In the early Church some denied this, arguing that the Gospels speak of the brothers and sisters of Jesus, and thus maintained that Mary did not remain a virgin after the birth of Jesus. But already in the fourth century, theologians pointed out that the Greek word for brother used in the New Testament can refer also to cousin. A second explanation was that these brothers and sisters were children of Joseph by a previous marriage. However, it is the constant teaching of the Church that Mary remained a virgin even after the birth of Jesus. In her virginity, Mary lived a life dedicated exclusively to her Son and his mission. Her example has been followed by some of Christ’s disciples who have lived lives of consecrated virginity and celibacy from apostolic times to the present. In the mystery of her Assumption, Mary experiences immediately what we all will experience eventually, a bodily resurrection like Christ’s own. “The Immaculate Virgin . . . when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of death” (CCC, no. 966, citing LG, no. 59). Finally, in Mary we behold what the Church is already like during her pilgrimage of faith—and what the Church will become at the end of the journey. “Mary figured profoundly in the history of salvation and in a certain way unites and mirrors within herself the central truths of the faith” (LG, no. 65).

Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Michael McGivney
Founder of the Knights of Columbus God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Please report all favors received to: The Father McGivney Guild, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510-3326

COVID 19: God Is Our Constant
Our lives are a constant series of endings and beginnings. Some of these endings come suddenly or unexpectedly. Others are planned and come more gradually. Some are happy. Some are sad. But each ending gives us the opportunity for a new beginning. As is said, “When one door closes, another door opens.”
We were supposed to have a warm, quiet summer. Bright days, easy nights, fresh air – and the vaccine-enabled freedom to breathe, talk and laugh without a mask. That idea deflated. Fast. With the mutation of the Virus and quick rise in Covid-19 cases around the country, we may be feeling perplexed, frustrated, and even angry at the prospect of returning to wearing masks. Questions swirl around our head. Will the virus mutate to something else? Am I protected? What’s next? Through illness, isolation, and losses of various kinds, there has been one “Constant” through this nightmare of a pandemic- our Lord Jesus Christ, who does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, and is worthy of our trust. We recognize that there are things about this virus we cannot control. God prods us to let go, to trust in Him and release the burden of anger, judgements, feelings of helplessness and possibly despair. There is that phrase I am reminded of, “Let go, let God.” What God calls us to do as a community of believers is to look out for each other, to care for one another. We can’t force someone to take the vaccine if they are a healthy individual, nor can we force someone to wear a mask in a public venue if they haven’t been vaccinated. What we have control of is ourselves, our actions, our thoughts. God Is our “Constant”. We turn to Him, remembering that He is with us through all the events of our lives, and that these endings and beginnings are no different. Let us ask for God’s grace and help as we traverse this journey together with patience, perseverance, and trust in what He has planned for us. If you have any health related questions, need a referral or a listening presence, feel free to contact Kathy Ford RN, Parish Nurse at 630-353-4526 or [email protected].
