20th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I

will give is my flesh for the life of the world” (Jn. 6,51).

This saying of Jesus tells us three things. First, Jesus gives Himself totally to us.

Every part of our being is at our service. In the Eucharist, we recall what He said during the Last Supper, “This is my body given up for you…” and “This is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins…” As we receive Jesus in Holy Communion, we are called to give ourselves totally for the service of humankind. This would mean that our service must be done with generosity and not in a mediocre way. That we really give our best in everything that we do because we want want to be an image of Jesus Who gave His own self totally for us and we desire to serve and help other people.

Second, Jesus is inviting us to a deep union with Him, to have His spirit coursing through our souls so that we can know the passion of His love for everyone. When we receive Jesus in His Word and in Holy Communion, we are deeply united with Him and with one another. He would like that we will always remain in His love as this Love Who is Jesus Himself is the One we receive or partake in Holy Communion. He abides in us! When we follow His commandments and receive Him often in the state of grace, our relationship with Him is made stronger and deeper.

Third, Jesus wants us to unite our weakness and our suffering with Him so that we can experience His strength and courage. During the Last Supper, He told His apostles, “In the world, you will have trouble, but be brave, I have conquered the world” (Jn. 16, 32-33) When we eat His Flesh and drink His Blood, our own flesh and blood are ennobled. Yes, we are confronted with our own human weaknesses and limitations. And Jesus knows this very well. Thus, in His great kindness, He made himself as our Food and Drink so that we can overcome our human weaknesses and do good. Indeed, He is our strength! Like St. Paul we say, “For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2Cor 12,10).

National Shrine of Our Lady of CandlesAyhan ang nagakaigo nga pamangkot amo ini: Ano ang kinahanglan sang isa agud sia mangin pari?

Kon indi sia pagpilion kag tawgon sang Obispo,

wala man sing may ma-ordenahan nga pari.Pero ang pamangkot: Sin-o ang sarang

mapili kag matawag sang Obispo agud ma-ordenahan nga pari?

Fr. Martin Alarcon. Ini ginhiwat sa La Isabelita Hall sang alas 6:00 sang gab-i.

Sa takna nga alas 5:00 sa hapon naghiwat sia sang Santos nga Misa sa Brgy. Benedicto.

Francisco Angostura.

Martin!

Gani, naghinayhinay kami dalagan.

Kagawad agud mag-upod kag magbulig man kon bala kinahanglan ang bulig sang DSWD. Nagapasalamat man kami kay Brod.

man makapangayapon. Apang tungod sa daku nga pagkabalaka naghulat gid sia tubtub nga makabalik kami upod ang amay kag utod sang dalagita. Madugay pa ang pag-istoryahay nila ni Brod Mark kag sang amay antes sila magpauli. Salamat man kay Sis Maya, Sis Jel kag pati kag Fr. Martin nga nagpalapit man sadto nga gab-i sa dugang nga pagpakighinun-anon.

Nagakadapat nga may klaro sila nga panan-awan (vision) sang ila padulongan. Sa sini nga katuyuan, ang katapo sang Barangay Apostolic Council (BAC) Coordinators nagpili sang ila Over-all Coordinator, Asst. Over-all Coordinator, Secretary kag Treasurer sang nagligad nga Agosto 8, 2015, Sabado alas 9:00 sang aga diri sa Pius XII Catechetical Center. Ang mga napilian amo ang mga masunod:

BAC Over-all Coordinator: Mrs. Ma. Elsie JabatAsst. Over-all Coordinator: Mrs. hazel PorquezSecretary: Mrs. Bernadette GumbanTreasurer: Mrs. Corazon Majarucon

Agud indi man mabudlay sa Worship,

Gani dapat ini nga kalangkagan kag handa-an.

Nagapasalamat man kita kay Br.

Marit Llanora.

The Queenship of Mary

Nicolasita Barrido

Fe Marina Siacon

On the 11th of October 1954, Pope Pius XII established the Feast of the Queenship of Mary to be celebrated

throughout the world, and commanded that each year the world should renew its consecration to her. The Feast falls on the 22nd of August, and the purpose is for all “to recognize more clearly and venerate more devoutly the merciful and motherly sovereignty of her who bore God in her womb” (Ven. Pius XII, Ad. Coeli Reginam).

On the day of her Assumption, Mary our Mother was solemnly crowned by Christ and received by the whole court of Heaven as Queen. We honor the Virgin Mary as “Queen”. The Scriptures clearly declared that she is the Mother of a King, her divine Son, as stated by St. Luke: “The Lord will give Him the throne of David His father, and He shall be King over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there shall be no end” Lk. 1:32. (by Father Paul A. Duffner, O.P..)

According to Fr. Garrigon Lagrange, OP, The Queenship of Mary is not temporal in nature. “Her royalty is spiritual and supernatural rather than temporal and natural, though it extends in a secondary way to temporal affairs considered in their

This morning at dawn of August 12, 2015, I thought of Victoria who offered her life to the Lord on this same

month and date in 1936 at Hornachuelos, Cordova, Spain. That blessed dawn of her martyrdom she must have thought, “Your love is better than life itself, my lips will recite your praise!” She was killed at early dawn, and thus she must have said her Angelus in Heaven!

She is Victoria Diez y Bustos de Molina, a public school teacher and a martyr during the first months of the Spanish civil war who was beatified by Pope John Paul II, now a saint, on October 10, 1993.

But who is Victoria Diez, and how did she manage to be raised to the altars? She was born in Seville, Spain on November 11, 1903 and an only daughter to a simple couple. As a young girl she was loving, pious and with aptitudes for study. She learned the Arts in her adolescence, and she studied and studied till she became a teacher. She exercised her profession in the public elementary schools of Cheles in Badajos and in Hornachuelos, Cordova. Both in Chelas and in Hornachuelos (Pronounced as hornechuelos). She unleashed her zeal and enthusiasm and became a Model Teacher. She put up libraries for her schools, organized night classes for workers in the town and thought of initiating a Sunday School for young women who had no access to education. She found time to

relation to salvation and sanctification”.Does the title of Mary as queen only in

a wide and metaphorical sense, or in the strict sense of a sharing of Christ’s power?

Just as Christ chose to associate His Mother with Him in an intimate way in His

sacrifice for the redemption of mankind, so therefore He chose to share with her in a unique way the power of dispensing the graces merited by that sacrifice. The term “queen” therefore, applies to Mary both in the wide sense because of her excellence and holiness and in the strict sense because of real dominion in Christ’s kingdom of grace.

However, Mary’s power as Queen is intercessory. When we say that her power in the distribution of graces extends to all souls, we do not mean that she is the source of those graces which are a sharing in the life of God, but by her prayers she can obtain from her divine Son all the graces that are necessary for souls. Pope Pius IX wrote:

“With a Heart that is truly a Mother’s does she approach the problem of our salvation, and is solicitous for the whole human race; made Queen of heaven and earth by the Lord, exalted above all choirs of angels and saints, and standing at the right hand of her only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, she intercedes powerfully for us with a mother’s heart, obtains what she seeks, and cannot be refused.”

help in the Church, preparing young ones to receive Holy Communion and she formed the members of the Daughters of Mary. She did light the fire of fervor and devotion in the hearts of the townspeople!

Few materials and facilities for children were challenging realities at that time for teachers. In Hornachuelos, she requested the municipal government of Spain for a new building for her classroom. She also asked for a better yard for her school for open-air classes. She requested for electricity to be installed to be able to show films to the children. In her creativity she drew the map of Spain on the walls of her classrooms. From her meager income she bought books for the children. She also asked for donations of clothing and shoes for children who would otherwise go to school barefooted. Some clothes would disappear from her closet to reappear later worn by this or that child. She made ribbons for the girls so they would look pretty. Almost every day she would take along a child to her house for lunch of those who live far. In winter she would deprive herself of the warmth from her small heater to accommodate the young children so they won’t suffer from the cold. She also encouraged the children to help poorer children with their own resources.

The children loved Victoria and followed her with great respect. She inspired proper behavior from them. She

was really a Model. Her punctuality was proverbial and she prepared her classes thoroughly. She knew each of her students and lived her mission like no one else. In the early 1960’s she employed play, dance and songs to teach. She held out-door classes and organized field-trips, exhibits, fairs, theatres, and shows. Can you imagine an active teacher, kind and jolly and endowed with plenty of sense of humor?

Her schedule was busy yet she was involved zealously in the work of evangelization. And when the Law forbade teachers to teach religion in the public schools in Spain, she trained others to do it so that faith education would not be neglected. In her tiny office she placed the image of Mary. To this office she would call a child for correction. The children would remember and call her image as our Lady of Forgiveness! Later the Spanish laws would prohibit crucifixes in public classrooms. She then strived to bear the image of Jesus Christ in her very being and was like a living Crucifix.

With her life and her convictions, Victoria was marked for martyrdom during the religious persecution in Spain. She was aware and prepared herself for it. She was arrested on August 11, and on August 12, 1936, at early dawn she was martyred.

“Viva Cristo Rey! Viva mi Madre” were her last words. Long live Christ, the King. Long live my Mother!

showing our Christianity. We have many apostolate activities

in the parish. It would be nice if we can manage to be a member of one of them. I learned lately that they have formed one for senior citizens and many have joined it. If these old people who can hardly see and have difficulty in walking can share in the apostolic work, why don’t the stronger ones join the apostolic work? Time waits for no one. We all grow older every minute. Do not make your job an excuse for not joining Church activities. You can be an apostle anytime, anywhere, pausing a few minutes from what you are doing

preaching respect and the importance of study. Do you pray when you hear the bell ring for the angelus? That is preaching the devotion to Mary, our Blessed Mother.

We do not need to climb the pulpit and deliver sermons. We do not need to wear clothes with long sleeves or attempt to imitate the attire of priests and nuns. God created us to live among men and propagate the virtues that would make us merit heaven. Let us follow God’s will with Christian obedience and love. Let us use our mind, our heart, our lips, our hands, our feet, let us use them as steps to heaven, holding each other, loving each other.

We may be eloquent speakers. We may be very convincing because of our strong facial expressions,

but, if we do not apply what we say, through what we do, we are failures in the eyes of God.

Let us contribute to do what we can do for cleanliness and sanitation, for our environment, our public places, which must start from ourselves, our homes, schools, offices, in fact, wherever we go. The clouds of mistrust and dishonesty must be erased from the sky of our existence.

We do not need to speak much; we only have to live according to God’s commandments, follow the rules of the Church and everything will move to the right place.

Let us prepare a feast for the Lord every day while we are still alive. With our heart as banquet table, let the first course be our love, devotion, service, and faithfulness to the Lord no matter where we are. We can do it by paying attention to our neighbors and those around us not only by helping them economically, but by inspiring them when they feel downhearted and lost. Our children and other family members must be made to recite the Holy Rosary every day, plus other prayers and the performance of good deeds. There is one thing we must always remember: we do not live forever. Preaching through example is one way of

and saying a sincere though short prayer to God.

Help an old woman cross the street. That is preaching t h o u g h t f u l n e s s . Share a coin with a beggar. That’s preaching charity. Pray for lawmakers before going to sleep. That is preaching spirituality. Be obedient, helpful, and attentive in school. That’s source: sjapc.net
