Keep reading and I will take you on a journey to a future where driverless cars called the 'Waymo' are a reality!

“Driverless Cars???” Yes, you heard me right!

What is Waymo?

Google's parent company is ‘Alphabet Inc’. In 2009, Alphabet Inc started working on the first prototypes of the cars that drive

by themselves and called them 'Waymo'. Waymo is an autonomous car development company and subsidiary of Google's par-

ent company, Alphabet Inc. When they first started, Waymo announced that they will integrate the self-driving technology into

current car models.

Tour de France 2018

Have you heard about Tour de France? Just read it aloud and imagine, what comes to your mind? You would say it is a Tour of

France. Well, it is not so.

Tour de France is a men's multiple stage bicycle race. It is held annually in France.

It occasionally passes through its nearby countries. It consists of 21 stages over a

period of three weeks. The race was first organized in 1903. It has been held an-

nually since 1903 except when it was stopped for the two World Wars.

The Tour is a UCI World Tour event. UCI refers to Union Cycliste Internationale.

All the teams that compete in the race are mostly UCI World Teams except the

teams that the organizers invite. The race is mostly held in July. The route chang-

es each year while the format of the race stays the same, as does the passage

through the mountain chains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, and the finish on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. The race covers

around 3,500 kilometers. It alternates between clockwise and counterclockwise circuits of France.

Each day of the race is called a Stage. There are 21 stages over the 23 days. Each day the first rider to cross the finish line is the

Stage Winner and gets to wear a Yellow Jersey called ‘Maillot Jaune’, in French, for the next stage. When a cyclist crosses the

finish line, their time is recorded for that day or the stage. At the end of each day, stage times from the start of the race are

added up for cyclists. The cyclist who covers the entire circuit in the shortest time. Apart from the stage Winner, there are oth-

er winners too. They also get to wear a Jersey but of a different color. Jersey is made

of a special material that helps the rider to keep cool. Each year, there is a different

pattern of Jersey. This year the influence is the artist Mondrian. Let us learn about

different jerseys awarded to other winners.

Green Jersey: It is given to the best sprinter or time trialist. This Jersey is also known

as 'Sprinter Jersey'.

Polka Dot Jersey: It is white with red dots. It is given to the best climber or the King of Mountains.

The rider who has most points from the mountain stages comes under this category,

White Jersey: It is given to the best young rider (below 26 years old).

Tour de France, 2018

Tour de France, 2018 was the 105th edition of the event. This event is one of the

three cycling Grand Tours. The event oc-

curred from July 7 to July 29. This year the

3,351 km race started from Noirmoutier-

en-l'Île, in the Vendée department and

concluded with the Champs-Élysées stage

in Paris. A total of

176 riders across

22 teams partici-

pated in the 21-stage race. It was the shortest tour of the mil-

lennium. It was the fifth time a tour had set out from Vendee.

Don’t Post Your Aadhaar Number on

Social Media

Do you have an Aadhaar card? Do you think it is

just another ID? Read on, to know why this 12-digit

unique number is considered so important.

Though Aadhaar has been hailed as the world's

largest biometric ID system, it has not been without

a fair share of controversies. One such is the vul-

nerability of the Aadhaar data that is held in the Unique Identification Au-

thority of India (UIDAI) servers.

In order to quell such fear, TRAI chief Mr Ram Sewak Sharma publicly shared

his Aadhaar number through his Twitter account and challenged people

whether they can cause any harm. Accepting the challenge, some ethical

hackers retrieved his personal information including his bank account details.

They also went on to deposit Re.1 in his bank accounts.

This has created quite a stir on the micro-blogging platform. The UIDAI cate-

gorically denied any breach of its servers. And added that the information

might have been obtained from various other means like the search engines

or social media.

So kids, please be aware that in the wake of this controversy, UIDAI has is-

sued an advisory not to disclose your Aadhaar number on social media. It is

always better to be safe than sorry, isn't it?

Waymo’s mission statement is straightforward: “make it easy and safe for people and objects to move around”. In 2015, the

self-driving cars were tested for the first time on public roads in Austin, Texas.

Waymo cars use a device called range-finder mounted on its top. Range-finder is a Velodyne 64-beam laser that creates a de-

tailed 3D map of the road the car is moving on, and helps the car to manoeuvre auton-

omously. Waymo cars have sensors that can detect objects up to 300 meters away.

They also have radars that can detect objects under and around vehicles, to prevent

accidents. The system also provides an override that allows a human driver to take

control of the car by stepping on the brake or turning the wheel. Since the cars rely

primarily on pre-programmed route data, they do not obey temporary traffic lights or

human intervention when police officers signal the car to stop. Hence, many debate

their feasibility on Indian roads.

Waymo cars have met with few accidents, but the company is continuously working on

improving the technology. In 2017, Waymo announced a partnership with Intel, to develop au-

tonomous driving technology and better processing, together.

All of us are excited to take a ride in this super-cool car, but there is a small wait. The car will be

available for the general public by 2020. Currently, Waymo is set to launch in the USA. But don’t

get disappointed, we're sure they will launch Waymo cars in India in the near future. Way to go

technology!

Children, do you know about the Ayodhya dispute? A dispute to decide who does

the land belong to: HINDUS OR MUSLIMS. Let us know more about it.

Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. A section of

Hindus claims that the Mughal Emperor. Babar, demolished the temple at the sa-

cred place of Lord Rama’s birth, and built the Babri mosque in its place. On the oth-

er hand, Muslims believe that the mosque built in 1528, was their sacred religious

place, and Hindus placed idols of Lord Rama in the mosque in 1949. The site re-

mained closed for many years and reo-

pened only in 1989.

On 6th December 1992, Hindu activists organised a rally at the site, involving 1.5

Lakh volunteers, and demolished the mosque. This resulted in a major dispute be-

tween Hindus and Muslims. The dispute was taken to the Supreme Court.

After years of hearing, the Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board, in July 2018, said in Su-

preme Court that they wanted to settle the dispute

and were willing to donate one-third of the land,

granted to Muslims, by Allahabad high court, to Hin-

dus, for building Ram Mandir. The court is hearing

the appeals.

Potholes Claimed More Lives Than Terrorist Activities, in 2017

Potholes have become a menace in all the cities of India. This menace claims many

lives, every year. This shows the sorry state of roads and their maintenance.

According to the studies, people dying in the accidents caused due to potholes are

higher when compared to terrorist activities. This shows the negligence of the mu-

nicipal corporations of respective cities. Open pot

holes cause a lot of problems for the people who ride

two-wheelers.

The Supreme Court has raised concern over the rising

number of deaths due to road accidents, because of

potholes. Supreme Court Committee on Road

Safety has been asked to look into this matter and

come up with a report within two weeks.

To fix the problem, municipal corporations of all the cities in India should lay the roads which

are strong enough to stand heavy downpour, heavy vehicles, and heavy traffic, and ensure

that the people responsible for road construction are accountable for maintenance of the

Hotel Transylvania 3 - A Monster Vacation

Watching an animation is always delightful. Recently, I went to watch Hotel Transylvania - A

Monster Vacation.

The movie is the third edition of Hotel Transylvania series. The movie has a superb star cast.

Some of the big names of Hollywood have lent their voices to the main characters. The

movie released in India, on 20th July 2018. The movie is produced by Sony Animation Pic-

tures.

Dracula(Adam Sandler), the lead character is tired of running a hotel for monsters. His

daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomes) plans a surprise vacation for him. The entire 'Drac pack' sets on

a vacation on a luxury cruise. It's fun and smooth sailing until Drac is smitten by Captain Ericka (Kathryn Hahn). The action be-

gins, as Ericka is the great grand-daughter of a vampire hunter, Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan), who is now half woman, half ma-

chine. Ericka is on a secret mission to destroy the monster kind! With time running out, it's Mavis' turn to save her father and

others from the devilish plans of Ericka.

The movie is predictable in some places. The first two editions were better. However, the movie gives out some positive mes-

sages like letting go of negative feelings and grudges, believing in the power of love and the importance of communication be-

tween parents and kids. There is something for kids as well as adults. The colorful location and characters are appealing.

The monsters and their comedy is something all kids will like. The dinner scene in which both Drac and Mavis eat overtly gar-

licky Mexican food and suffer from a gastric disorder, leaves the kids rolling with laughter. Drac and Ericka's romance and

flirting amuse the adults. All the characters are monsters. But they are cute and colorful, with Blobby (Genndy Tartakovsky),

being my personal favorite.

The film is not a masterpiece but a good and entertaining weekend escape, for the whole family. How did you find the movie?

PM Modi visits Rwanda. Where is Rwanda?

Located in East Africa, Rwanda is a country landlocked with greenery and plush

mountains. Due to the breathtaking scenery surrounding it, it is also known as 'le

pays des mille collines' (land of a thousand hills). Rwanda is home to a Volcano Na-

tional Park, called Nyungwe National Park. The park is replete with mountain gorillas

and golden monkeys. The park also includes forested volcanoes and the 4,507m-tall

Mt. Karisimbi. It encompasses the ancient montane rainforest. This rainforest boasts

of being a habitat primarily for chimpanzees and other apes. In the centre of Rwanda

is its capital Kigali (on the Ruganwa River). The currency is Rwandan Franc. Being an

agrarian country, its agriculture exports are almost 63% while tea, coffee, minerals

and tourism contribute to its foreign exchange.

Mr. Narendra Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to have visited Rwanda on a three-nation Africa tour. While meeting Presi-

dent Paul Kagame, the two discussed measures to strengthen collaborations in trade, defense, animal resources and agricul-

ture thereby boosting bilateral ties. They agreed to cooperate in the domains of defense capacity building, industry, science

and technology; in diversifying trade and promoting economic cooperation between the two countries. Further, a contract was

signed between the two parties on collaborations in dairy cooperation, leather and allied sectors, and an agricultural research

and education collaboration between Rwanda Agricultural Board (RAB) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Mr.

Modi also extended an offer of $200 million for two lines of credit to Rwanda. The first one is of $100 million for development

of industrial parks and an Special Economic Zone, in Kigali. The other $100 million is for agriculture and irrigation.

Another chief component of Mr. Modi's trip to Rwanda was visiting the Rweru Model Village, where he would gift 200 locally

sourced cows to the 'Girinka' (May you have a cow) scheme of Rwanda. The scheme is part of the national social protection

program, commenced by President Kagame. In this scheme, the dairy cows are gifted to the poorest families by the govern-

ment. The first female calf born to the cow is then gifted to the neighbor, thereby promoting brotherhood and harmony. The

cows are looked upon as an important part of economic empowerment in the villages of Rwanda. Overall, the Girinka program

of Rwanda is expected to transform its villages. The program is also meant to deal with childhood malnutrition.It is also being

considered as a way to decelerate poverty by engaging in milk production, integrating livestock and crop farming.

Before visiting the Rweru Model village, Mr. Modi visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to

pay homage to 2,50,000 victims of the mass genocide in 1994. The genocide had shaken

Rwanda's economy, impoverished the population, and left the country in shambles without

any economic growth.

However, in the last few years Rwanda has made substantial progress in rehabilitating the

economy while poverty has been reducing over the years. The government has also improved the

education system, investments and infrastructure for doing business. Rwanda wishes to reach the

middle-income status by 2020 by leveraging on the service industry such as informing investors

about its community land and its appropriateness for agricultural development.

The FIFA World Cup is an international football event. It is also called Football World

Cup. This event is contested by the members of the Fédération Internationale de

Football Association (FIFA). FIFA is the sport's global governing body. The champion-

ship takes place every four years since 1930. It was not held in 1942 and 1946 be-

cause of the Second World War.

Did you watch the FIFA World Cup 2018 Final?

FIFA World Cup, this year, took place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018. These

were the 21st Games to be held. FIFA is a popular contest and everyone in the world

have an eye on it. A total of 64 matches were played in 12 venues across 11 cities.

The two teams after giving their best to reach in final were France and Croatia. France won the final match 4–2 and claimed

their Second World Cup.

The final match took place on 15 July at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. This match was the third World Cup final for France,

first appearing in the 1998 final as hosts and also contested the 2006 final. On the other hand, it was the first World Cup final

for Croatia( second smallest country to play in a World Cup final).

An audience of 78,011 spectators at the Luzhniki Stadium witnessed the match. It also included ten heads of state, among

them Russian president Vladimir Putin, French president Emmanuel Macron, and Croatian president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.

Croatia had the majority of possession and chances early in the first half, with the ball staying mostly in France's half. Griez-

mann from France took the ensuing 30-yard (27 m) free kick, which was diverted by the head of Mario Mandžukić into the left

corner of his own net to give France the lead in the 18th minute.

Ten minutes later, Croatia equalized the score with a left-footed strike by Ivan Perišić to the right corner of the net, assisted by

Domagoj Vida after a free kick by Luka Modrić on the right.

In the 34th minute, a penalty was awarded against Croatia after Perišić's handball in

the box from a corner on the right was reviewed by the video assistant referee.

Griezmann scored the penalty in the 38th minute with a low finish to the left, giving

France a 2–1 lead at half-time.

Kylian Mbappé scored France's fourth goal. He became the first teenager to score in

a World Cup final since Pelé in 1958.

Croatia scored their second goal in the 69th minute, from a back-pass.

Despite a late push by Croatia, the match finished as a 4–2 victory for France. France be-

came World Cup Champion 2018.

It was also the highest-scoring World Cup final since 1966.

The Man of the Match was awarded to Antoine Griezmann.

don men’s Single 2018? Well, the winner of the grand slam was Novak Djokovic. Let us learn a few things about Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic is a Serbian tennis player. He is currently ranked 10 in men's singles tennis. These ranks are by the Association

of Tennis Professionals (ATP).Recently, he has won the prestigious tournament, Wimbledon. He is among the players who hold

all four grand slams. Djokovic has won 13 Grand Slam singles titles, five ATP Finals titles, 30 Masters 1000 series titles, 12 ATP

World Tour 500 tournaments, and has held the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for a total of 223 weeks. In majors, Djokovic has

won six Australian Open titles, four Wimbledon titles, two US Open titles and one French Open title.

Early Life

Novak Djokovic was born on May 22, 1987, in Belgrade, Serbia. His father, Srdjan, and mother, Dijana, run a company called

Family Sports. The company owns three restaurants and a tennis academy. Djokovic's family has professional skiers, but Novak

was a Tennis genius. At the age of 13, he was sent to the Pilic Academy in Munich, Germany. There he pursued higher levels of

Tennis. In 2001, he began his international career. He was just 14 when he started his

career.

His Career Achievements:

• In 2001, he emerged as a triple European champion in singles, doubles and team

competition.

• In 2005, he qualified at Wimbledon and reached the third round, moving him up

the rankings and into the Top 100.

• He won his second Masters title in Montreal, beating the Top 3 players—Roger

Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick—which made him No. 3 in the world.

• He competed for Serbia in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and won a bronze medal in singles tennis

• In 2011, he won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open to become the world's No. 1 tennis player.

• In 2012, Djokovic won the Australian Open singles title, and made it to the semifinals at Wimbledon.

• Djokovic took home the men's singles title at the Australian Open in 2013. He was the runner-up at Wimbledon that

year.

• Djokovic underwent an elbow surgery after his fourth-round loss at the 2018 Australian Open. He came back strong

and recently won the Wimbledon, against Kevin Anderson. With this win, he claimed the13th Grand Slam title of his

career.
