FROM THE EAST
t is Saturday, July 2 and I am
thinking about the August trestle
board message, and one would
think I had better things to do,
but sometimes you need to get
the idea on paper before you forget.
Sometime back there was a contro-
versy regarding our lodge hosting a Facebook page. Yes
California Lodge has a Facebook page and you can
check us out at “California Lodge No. 1” We have been
getting a lot of activity at this page and it has all been
good. I recently attended the NASCAR event in Sonoma
at the end of June and there were the usual photo ops,
however this time they asked you to go to their Face-
book page and you would find your photo there. I found
this to be a very keen marketing technique. It seems to
me that there is some room for us to grow in this area.
We update our Facebook page regularly, come and
check us out.
A little closer to home, I want to thank WB Tom Chavez
for chairing the 7th Annual Masters Golf Tournament. It
was a very thought out event from start to finish, and
quite possibly some of the best trophies I have ever seen.
I also want to thank Brother William (Mr Paparazzi)
Suguitan of Francis Drake Lodge, for taking so many
photos. He was all over the place and did an excellent
job. Thank you William!
I have been putting this part of my message off, as I
I

Brethren, Ladies and Friends.
Here, we are, and another
month has gone by.
For some of you that have
already come back from
your vacations, I like to say
welcome back. For some of
you that may be ready to
take one, I'm wishing you a
good and safe vacation. July
as being a busy month for
the officers of California
Lodge #1. We have Conferred , one third Degree and two
first Degrees. As I am writing this message I received an
E-mail from our Master Richard Modolo, telling me that
in August we have two third Degrees schedule, one Tues-
day, August 9Th. and the other one Tuesday, August
30Th.
I am happy to say that the officers of this Lodge are very
dedicate Masons, and tried to make California Lodge # 1
shine, trying to make it the Premiere Lodge, as it should
be.
Sunday, August 21st. is our Lodge Picnic, be sure to read
the bulletin for all the information and for your reserva-
tions. I hope to see you and your families there.
I also like to see you at our Degrees Conferral's, August
9Th. and August 30Th. See all of you soon.
Fraternally:
Corrado L.J. De Martini
Senior Warden
Master’s July Message continued from page 1
generally like to keep things up beat. California Lodge
does a very good job on the fraternal side, but on the
business side, we need to do a lot of work. Not to bore
you with particulars, but our dues are only $1.00 plus
per-capita, our income is down and our expenses are
up, sounds like congress. While I believe we have let
the business side of the Lodge go down over the last
few year, it is now time to address certain business like
issues. I am looking into rebalancing the budge in both
operations and entertainment, while the dues committee
will be looking into raising our Lodge dues. California
Lodge will always give back to the members, and will
be a leader in charitable gifting. I know there are those
brothers who feel that we have sufficient income to
cover our obligations and there is nothing to worry
about, my brothers there is some cause for concern. My
brother I am confident you would agree that we must
strive to be professional in both the fraternal as well as
the business side of the lodge. We will do our very best
to keep you informed along the way.
Fraternally,
Richard J. Modolo, PM
Master

The Sultan of Swat talk with WB Bermudez in a build up to
the Masons4Mits big pitch.
AUGUST 2011 PAGE 3
I want to thank all the Brethren
who attended our double First
Degree on July 26th; it was my
first time sitting in the East and
a momentous night for me. It
felt good to look out from the
East and see so many familiar
faces, all eager to help our
newly obligated Brothers, see
the light by which Masons
work, not to mention me, I
hope I didn’t let them down.
This degree was the second
time California Lodge No.1 has
presented a degree with music,
in a very long time, and Brother Stark Dagesse did an ex-
ceptional job with the musical selections. Music truly
helps make the degrees so much more memorable, our
degrees are something you are not going to want to miss.
I believe we will see or hear more from Brother Dagesse
in the future, it was a job well done.
My long time friend and now Brother Diego Torres re-
ceived his First Degree and I would like to welcome him
and Brother Joshua Freeze to our beautiful lodge. Brother
Diego make's the seventh of my friends who have be-
come members of our wonderful lodge. My connection
with these first-rate men started with our common love of
Vintage Italian scooters and now will only grow stronger
as we grow together as Brothers and as Masons.
I am looking forward to August, August is PICNIC time
and I have been busy planning this epic event with San
Francisco Lodge 120's Junior Warden, Tony Ramos. For
any of you that may not have heard, California Lodge
No.1 has joined forces with San Francisco Lodge No.
120, to host what may turn out to be the best picnic of the
year. The date is Sunday, August 21st at Henrik Ibsen
Park. (See flyer in this bulletin for full details) Reserva-
tions are easy, just let me know by mail, email, carrier
pigeon or tell me in person, if you are attending and how
many. Family and friends are all welcome but I must
have your reservation(s) by August 15th. We will serve
up top shelf BBQ’ed Rib eye steaks and all the fixing.
Not to mention Bingo, the famous Salami Toss and
plenty of other cool stuff, all to guarantee you a great
time, to be had by all!
Our lodge has one of the best Corps of officers in the
state, and they are hard at work learning that which is
necessary to enable them to advance to their next station.
I look forward to serving with all of our new officers as
FROM THE SOUTH:
well as those advancing on to higher office and I can't
wait to see what Worshipful Brother Corrado De Mar-
tini has in store for us all. We have a bright future and I
am proud and privileged to be a small part of it.
Fraternally yours,
Barry Gwin
