Tre Styles, Doughboy and Ricky are figuring out what to do with their lives during a hot springtime in South Central Los Angeles. Navigating gang allegiances, girlfriends and family histories, the trio’s futures are laid out for them in a few pivotal weeks. 8/18 SAY ANYTHING (1989) He wears a trench coat! He drives a blue Chevy Malibu! He kickboxes, which everyone knows is the sport of the future! He’s great with kids! He watches COCOON with old people, for goodness sake! And, as if all of those amazing qualities weren’t enough, here’s the kicker (literally!): he will always, with- out fail, protect you from broken glass on the street. In other words, Lloyd Dobler is perfect, and for Girlie Night, we’ll give him the celebration he deserves. 8/17 the SECRET SOCIETY of FILM-MASONS | Session XIX THE DAMNED: DON’T YOU WISH THAT WE WERE DEAD (2015) The story of the long-ignored pioneers of punk: The Damned, the first U.K. punks on wax and the first to cross the Atlantic. Includes appearances from Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jones, Lemmy, Pink Floyd, Black Flag, GNR, the Sex Pistols, Blondie, Buzzcocks, and more. Shot over three years, the film charts the band’s complex history and infighting. 8/5 the SECRET SOCIETY of FILM-MASONS | Session XX MANIAC COP 2 (1990) At this screening, we’ll be giving away a Mondo MANIAC COP 2 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP! Violent, whiplash-paced, supernatural, and completely insane. It was written by horror legend Larry Cohen and stars Robert Davi, Robert Z’Dar & Bruce Campbell. You don’t need to have seen MANIAC COP, as the basics are quickly recapped. This film stands on its own. We have the ultimate confidence in MA- NIAC COP 2’s power to entertain you beyond all reason. 8/12 the SECRET SOCIETY of FILM-MASONS | Session XXI DO THE RIGHT THING (1989) Set on the hottest day of the year arond a Bed-Stuy pizza parlor, Lee’s compact tale of racial and social aggression is told through gorgeous production design by the legendary Wynn Thomas and an equally engaging cast of characters including ghetto-blasting Radio Raheem, slick shock jock Mister Señor Love Daddy, and the kookie Buggin’ Out. 8/26 WEIRD SCIENCE Quote-Along (1985) It’s hard to believe been 30 years since WEIRD SCIENCE first joined a couple of maniacs with bras on their heads. John Hughes gives us another classic ‘80s film that takes us back to the days of house parties gone wrong, annoying older brothers, and creating hot chicks with a computer in our bedroom. Gary and Wyatt attempt to create the perfect woman, Lisa, who turns out to be more than that by teaching them “if you want to be a party animal, you have to learn to live in the jungle.” 8/10 WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER Quote-Along (2001) WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER is not only the most ac- curate portrayal of our years at summer camp created on film EVER, it’s secretly how we wish every day of our life could really be like. Plus this movie is veritable before they were stars, who’s who in the modern Hollywood and cult com- edy scene. Everyone from Paul Rudd (ANT-MAN), Bradley Cooper (AMERICAN SNIPER), Christopher Meloni (LAW & ORDER), Amy Poehler (PARKS & REC), David Hyde Pierce (FRASIER), as well as comedians Janeane Garofalo, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, Molly Shannon, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio and more. So as the summer comes to a close, The Action Pack wants you remember the good ‘ol days of talent shows, swimming in the lake, art & craft time and fridge humping. 8/3 Funimation Presents DRAGON BALL Z: RESURRECTION F (2015) DRAGON BALL Z: RESURRECTION ‘F’ is the second film personally supervised by the series creator Akira Toriyama, fol- lowing BATTLE OF GODS. The new movie showcases the return of Frieza – one of the anime world’s greatest villains. Frieza has been resurrected and plans to take his revenge on the Z-Fighters of Earth. Goku and Vegeta must reach new levels of power in order to protect Earth from their vengeful nemesis. 8/4, 8/5, 8/6 BEST IN SHOW (2000) Join us for this FREE screening presented by IFC! In honor of DOCUMENTARY NOW!, starring Fred Armisen and Bill Hader and premiering August 20th on IFC, we’re de- buting an exclusive clip from the show followed by one of our favorite mockumentaries, BEST IN SHOW. Christopher Guest has made some remarkable contributions to the satirical faux-documentary genre but none have quite as many adults with braces as BEST IN SHOW. This movie rips back the curtain on the oddball canine enthusiasts who enter highly competitive dog shows with an ensemble cast of amazingly gifted improvisers including Jane Lynch, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Parker Posey and the incomparable Fred Willard. 8/31 BETTER OFF DEAD Quote-Along (1985) There are a zillion ways to earn a laugh, but one thing we can ALL agree on is that suicidal depression is HIIIIILARIOUS! Just ask Lane Meyer (John Cusack), a heartbroken teenager who just can’t seem to catch a lethal break. Pills, nooses, carbon monoxide poisoning…nothin’ does the trick. But when his ex-beloved Beth starts schmucking around with arrogant ski warrior Roy, Lane realizes that he must put his self-destructive powers towards a better purpose: the total decimation of The Enemy! Enter French heroine Monique (Diane Franklin), who joins school scuzzbomb Charles De Mar in preparing Lane for the ultimate in downhill combat…plus she gives him some “inter- national language” lessons along the way. THE quintessential anything-goes ‘80s comedy, with enough exploding neighbors, crawling dinners, racist zingers and guitar-shredding cheese- burgers to annihilate audiences across the universe. 8/24 & 8/25 Video Vortex: BLOOD MASSACRE (1991) This movie looks like an expired Polaroid. It feels like a student film that was made by John Carpenter after an H.G. Lewis binge. It features a video store bloodbath, deranged synth- pop, and enough shocking twists ‘n’ turns to fill four movies. BLOOD MASSACRE is a nightmarish limbo where anything can happen, and often does -- all in the name of guts-chomping fun. VHS-only insanity projected from VHS for only $1! 8/13 New York Film Critics Series DIGGING FOR FIRE (2015) The latest from Director Joe Swanberg tells the tale of the discovery of a bone and a gun that send a husband and wife on separate adventures over the course of a weekend. Swanberg, one of the founding members of “Mumblecore” (a.k.a. The “Slackervetes”) movement brings his next micro- budgdet movie to the big screen alongside Jake Johnson (NEW GIRL, JURASSIC WORLD). As part of the New York Film Critic Series the film will be followed by an exclusive livestream Q&A with Director Joe Swanberg and hosted by Peter Travers. 8/20 EVOLUTION BEER DINNER in Glass Half Full Join us in Glass Half Full for a four course meal expertly prepared by Executive Chef Matt Stickley and paired with five beers exclusively from Evolution Brewing Company. Tickets are available via BrownPaperTickets.com. For more informa- tion visit facebook.com/GlassHalfFullDC. 8/18 Double Feature with Patton Oswalt Live! DEATH BED: THE BED THAT EATS (1977) DUDE BRO PARTY MASSACRE III (2015) Patton is headed back to The Alamo with a brand new project. He has teamed up with 5-Second Films to bring us a satirical twist on the gory and sexually charged 1980’s slasher genre, DBPM III is presented as the only surviving VHS copy of the reviled horror franchise’s third, and final, installment. In the wake of two back-to-back mass murders on Chico’s frat row, loner Brent Chirino must infiltrate the ranks of a popular fraternity to investigate his twin brother’s murder at the hands of the serial killer known as Motherface. As they are picked off one by one, Brent and his fellow Dude Bros must face the ter- rifying reality that their deadly foe, believed to have been killed (twice!), has returned from the grave (again!), and is hell-bent on the destruction of the Delta Bis. We are teaming up this montage of horror madness with a rarely seen 1977’s DEATH BED: THE BED THAT EATS. DEATH BED never had a theatrical release and only made it to DVD in 2003 after circulating on bootlegs for years. A long-ago failed seduction results in a demonically possessed four-poster that consumes lovers. Patton will be joining us live in the theater for a lively Q&A after the films. 8/19 RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD (1985) Two types of people exist solely to terrorize and/or extermi- nate all of mankind: zombies and punks! In RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, these colossal forces of terror unite for the most savagely entertaining horror/action/comedy of the new wave era! This is an unstoppable splatter-massacre of the highest order, a hyper-adrenalized nuclear shockwave of undead rampaging and mohawked raaaaaage! 8/15 FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) If Joe Dante and John Landis set the course of revisionist horror, then FRIGHT NIGHT drove it home. A reworking of Tod Browning’s DRACULA with more neon, sexual tension, and teen angst, this movie has everything that you could want out of a 1980s fun-grenade that features a theme song by the J. Geils Band. When total hunk Jerry Dandrige moves to the neighborhood, his next door neighbor Charlie suspects that something is wrong. 8/22 LIFEFORCE (1985) This big-budget career-wrecker from the TEXAS CHAINSAW director tears through all competition and stands tall as the ultimate example of the tired old Naked Space Vampire genre. An astronaut crew investigating Halley’s Comet run across a pile of batmonster corpses and three apparent humans encased in giant glass shards. When the Crystal Nudie Trio are brought back to our planet, their diabolical nature is revealed in a world- shattering bloodsucking shitstorm. These creatures devour life straight through your face, level entire cities in seconds and spread like Country Crock. 8/29 SUMMER CINEMA BIG SCREEN FAVORITES & BOLD CINEMATIC ADVENTURE ACTION PACK INTERACTIVE SCREENINGS AND CINEMATIC EVENTS ACTION PACK INTERACTIVE SCREENINGS AND CINEMATIC EVENTS ACTION PACK INTERACTIVE SCREENINGS AND CINEMATIC EVENTS the SECRET SOCIETY A FILM CLUB FOR THE FILM FAN ONLY AT THE ALAMO ONLY AT THE ALAMO THE LATE SHOW (30TH ANNIVERSARY) THE BEST OF THE BEST AND THE BEST OF THE REST

  • THE BLUES BROTHERS Dinner Party (1980)There are only a handful of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE mov-ies worth a damn and chief on that list is John Landis musical masterpiece THE BLUES BROTHERS. A free-wheeling, drug-fueled smash-em-up of music, comedy and action, THE BLUES BROTHERS is a movie that spits at boundaries and labels. Its refuses to be caged and smashes through expecta-tions with every scene change.

John Belushi and Dan Akroyd star as Jake and Elwood Blues, two brothers on a mission from God to save their old Catholic orphanage the only way they know how: by putting their old band back together performing a charity gig. Along the way, they dodge lawmen of every kind, neo-Nazis, and crazy ex-girlfriends. Featuring performances by James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles at their funky, late 70s best. If youre a fan of toe-tapping, knee-slapping and tail-shaking, this is a big screen experience you cant afford to miss.

To celebrate SNLs 40th anniversary year were pairing this first (and arguably greatest) sketch-to-film adaptation with an all SOUL FOOD Dinner Party created by our Alamo culinary geniuses! 8/11
