During our planning mee"ng, as we seem to have an increased interest in men wan"ng to join our ranks as brother knights, we decided to schedule first degree ceremonials, every other month be- ginning in August. The degrees will be done as part of our regular business mee"ngs (normally the third Thursday of each month), except to accommodate some poten"al brothers who may have difficulty making the degree on a Thursday night, we will do two Saturday first degrees, one De- cember 7 and one June 7. Please invite catholic men you know to consider joining our council There is always a supply of form 100 (applica"ons), on the shelf, in the coat closet in the church narthex. Please note our regular business mee"ng for August will be held on Thursday, August 22 (fourth Thursday as the third Thursday is the Feast of the Assump"on, a holy day of obliga"on). Our council has also agreed to help host a cookout/send off for the gradua"ng seniors from our parish on Sunday, August 4, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. We hope to help acquaint them with the campus ministries where they will a-end college. We could use a few brother knights to assist with cooking the hotdogs and hamburgers. Please contact me if you can help. Our first social of the new fraternal year is Cuban Night on August 10, babysiBng is available for those who would like to use it. Please see the flyer for details. Germantown

Festival

2013

September is not very far away and it is a very busy month for our Council. We have two opportunities to earn mon-ey for our various projects. The first opportunity is our Sausage Shack booth at the Germantown Festival (September 7 & 8) and will we need help in our booth, both days. This is one of our largest fundraisers, so please

consider volunteering. You will be hearing more from Past Grand Knight Chris Cambre, who is heading up this effort.

Later in September we have another opportunity to work, The Memphis Air Show. This year the air show is sched-uled for September 27, 28 & 29. As in the past we have three booths to operate on Saturday and Sunday. We have traditionally had our senior high school youth group work the Pretzel/Nachos/Drinks booth and we have operated a Beer/Water booth and a Chuck steaks/Drinks/Chips booth. The organizers are asking for volunteers' names and contact information now. This opportunity will not only allow you to work with brother knights, but also to view the air show. Please contact Tom Wilson now with any questions and to register your interest to participate in this op-

portunity.

Brother Knights, when is the last time you asked someone to join

the Knights? Many brother Knights have told us that all we had

to do is ask…… Now it’s your turn!

Prayer For Vocations

Heavenly Father, bless Your

Church with an abundance of holy and

zealous priests, deacons, brothers and

sisters. Give those you have called to

the Married state and those you have

chosen to live as single persons in the

world the special graces that their lives

require. Form us all in the likeness

of Your Son so that in Him, with Him

and through Him we may love you

more deeply and serve you more

faithfully, always and everywhere.

With Mary we ask this through

Christ our Lord.

Amen.

On Friday, July 26 our council sponsored the

Seminarian Dinner in St. Teresa Hall. This annual event to

raise funds to support our seminarians was very success-

ful. In addi"on to a number of Brother Knights purchas-

ing "ckets to this event a number also volunteered to

help out by tending bar and working in the kitchen.

Thanks for those who volunteered including Mike D’Ad-

dabbo, David Buck, Ken Kull, John Paul Miles, Ma-hew

Karmler, Bill Pla-en, Jim Quisdorff, and Ben Galle. Also a

special thanks to Anna Galle for coordina"ng the silent

auc"on. I apologize to anyone who volunteered and was

inadvertently leD off this list.

In addi"on to the various brother Knights indi-

vidual support, Grand Knight Tom Wilson presented the

diocese’s Voca"ons Director, Fr. Patrick Gallagher with a

check for $500 from the council during the dinner.

Church Social

So oDen during the day we reflect on the

world, family and our jobs and we are bur-

dened by that worldly noise around us.

The media grates on us and we wonder about

the future.

But have we concerned ourselves about our

real future??

When we rely on secular media to tell us

about life are we geBng real answers?

Remember some of the old Church media

focusing on truth.

Today we have wonderful new resources.

Beginning with the K of C website

www.kofc.org and our own OLPH parish

website www.olphgermantown.org

Instead of relying solely on the secular ----

EWTN has a wonderful website

www.ewtn.com

It ranges from live and recorded shows, a

solid library to inform, and large number of

blogs covering Va"can and World news.

Finally, the USCCB’s web site

www.usccb.org covers :

Bible, Daily Mass Readings, Saint of The Day,

The Universalis Prayer of The Hours, and fi-

nally the many teachings the US Bishops have

proclaimed.

So we do not have to spend a lot of money or

"me to be informed about our Faith and to

be edified.

There is so much to discover about our glori-

ous faith---the inter net in the right web sites

can help us stay on the narrow road.

A quick reminder---- that K of C Rosary you

received upon ini"a"on-----“use it or loose

it”---Salva"on that is. Jesus gave us his moth-

er Mary to be our mother . She is a great in-

tercessor on our eternal journey. Talk to her

about her Son—
