THORPE WILLOUGHBY BOUNDARY CHANGE Aer discussing this proposal further and with residents that would be affected, it was decided that the proposal did not meet Hambleton’s needs and was in fact going to disrupt some Hambleton residents. As a result, the Parish Council explained why it did not support the proposed change and as a result the proposal has not been approved and the boundary will remain as it was.

NETWORK RAIL: HAMBLETON JUNCTION DEVELOPMENT As a result of the naonal programme of upgrades to the East Coast Main Line infrastructure and East Coast Main Line Power Supply Upgrade, Network Rail have purchased land to develop on the northern side of the railway next to its exisng buildings down Scalm Lane. The development will be extensive and works are likely to involve a new Stac Frequency Compound, a new Electricity Substaon, removal of one and relocaon of two pylons, construcon of 2 under-track cable crossings, earthworks and landscape. Temporary work will also include the construcon of a haul road, a site compound and laydown area for during the construcon works. It has been explained that the development will not be seen from the village and that access will be from a purpose built haul road from near Bishop Wood to the north of Hambleton. Once detailed plans are drawn up (due end of August), Network Rail will hold a consultaon day for interested pares to aend and find out more and ask quesons. This will be held at the Village Hall and once it is arranged the clerk will inform the village via the noce board on Main Road, the noce board in the Village Hall and via the Facebook page. Network rail is looking to start work in Spring 2019 if permission is granted.

POST BOX, ST MARY’S APPROACH Enquiries into the replacement of the Post Box that has been removed are ongoing. The District Councillor has been in contact with Royal Mail about the situaon but the Parish Council are not sasfied with the response and will be wring to Royal Mail and Selby District Council expressing its rapidly growing concerns that it has sll not been replaced. The Parish Council appreciate what an inconvenience this has been and are looking to get the situaon recfied as quickly as possible.

THE PINFOLD & COMMON LANE BENCH The Parish Council are aware of the damage and are currently arranging repair and replacements.

COUNCILLOR VACANCY The council and I were extremely sad to receive the resignaon of Celia Barnes in July. Celia has worked hard for the village as a councillor and has brought a wealth of knowledge. Personally, I will be forever grateful for the support she has shown me in my role as clerk right from the start. The councillors and I would like to thank her for being wish her all the very best. JJ.

Due to the resignaon of Celia Barnes, Hambleton Parish Council now have a vacancy. If you are interested in geng involved please contact the clerk explaining why you would

like to be a councillor: [email protected] Applicaons to be received in wring/email by 24th August.

CEMETERY LAYBY The parish Council have submied plans to construct a layby at the cemetery to allow visitors to park and access the cemetery more easily. The clerk will give updates on the situaon via Facebook and the next newsleer.

GARTH DRIVE PLAY AREA Aer a safety inspecon a number of repairs were aconed to equipment. This involved the removal of some items and the holes that were le had to be filled in. Unfortunately some of the older children that use the park dug out the new surface on the same day it was laid, Wednesday 18th July This resulted in the closure of the park unl the contractors were able to aend to repair the surface again. Luckily they were able to carry out the repairs on Thursday so the park could reopen on Friday ready for the summer holidays. Hopefully the equipment will not sustain any more vandalism that will result in closure, especially as the weather is so lovely at the minute. It has been great to see it get so much use!

A63 ROAD SAFETY Aer a number of leers regarding the issue to many agencies and authories, the parish council will be meeng with the police to discuss the issues with speeding and road safety that we all have concerns about. The clerk will pass on feedback from this meeng via the Facebook page and next newsleer.

PLEASE CONSIDER OTHER ROAD AND PATH USERS Please avoid using the visibility splays to park cars on, they are there to enable other road users to use the juncon safely. On a similar note, avoid obstrucng the pavements for pedestrians, wheelchair users and those with prams.

Shell’s Story Bench

T hank you to everyone who aended the fundraiser, Shell’s family ad Playgroup are

overwhelmed with your kindness and generosity. We even received kind donaons from people who were unable to aend. Now, we are please to announce you have raised enough money to purchase the Story Bench, this is all thanks to the community and your love and respect for Shell. Shell’s family, playgroup staff and commiee want to say a hearelt thank you to every single person who has helped to raise this money in memory of Shell. Hambleton Playgroup now has a dedicated outdoor storytelling area where we can capture the imaginaon of your children, listen to intriguing and excing stories and progress their learning, just how Shell would want. The bench was unveiled on Tuesday 17th July at 3.15pm, Shell’s family aended along with Playgroup staff, commiee members, parents and of course, the children. It was an emoonal gathering but we can see the children will certainly enjoy Shell’s Story Bench for a long me to come!

Le: A brass plaque on the bench celebrates Shell’s me at Playgroup inspiring

the children through story-telling. The bench is finished in bright rainbow

colours (I promise, it is! JJ) and looks fantasc.

Above: Playgroup children, past and present, aended the unveiling and got

NEWS FROM THE CHAPEL

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2018

M any thanks to everyone who aended our June Gi Aernoon. There was certainly a lot of cake! The very good news is we have raised enough money now to

begin our building project which we hope will start in October. We are so grateful to the fantasc support we have had from our own congregaon, the village and various other funding sources.

Our June Messy Church was great fun and well supported. We made bird biscuits, planted mustard seeds and made an amazing balancing bird. Our next Messy Church will be on Sunday 14th October at 10am. Come along and join the fun!!

There will be no service in Chapel on Sunday 12th August as we are joining our friends at Portholme Chapel, Selby at 10.45.

It is our Harvest Fesval service on Sunday 23rd September at 10.30am followed by a simple harvest lunch. You are very welcome to join us.

We have been a collecon point for the Selby Food Bank for a few years now. The congregaon can drop off food items which we take along to the foodbank. If you would like to contribute any items the Chapel will be open on a Thursday morning between 9am and 10.30am during term me. Just pop in and leave your items. They will be very much appreciated. Tinned and dried foods are always welcome or boled sauces and longlife milk.

By the me you read this our minister Helen will have le us for a new appointment. We wish her all the very best and we will miss her very much. We will be having a new minister in the new year. As always you are very welcome to join us any Sunday morning at 10.30am.

Hough Update Just to clear up any confusion, there will NOT be an update meeng set up by a Hough Resident as was suggested on Facebook, this was a misunderstanding, the update is below and comes from Marn Blakey of the Wildlife Trust.

“In order to alleviate parking issues on the road, fencing has been removed to allow a small amount of car parking on Hambleton Hough. This has been done to ensure access to the site for visitors is as safe as possible.

It is currently nesng season so no work on the Hough is taking place. There has been a large amount of bracken growth which is providing a valuable habitat for wildlife on the site. No work will take place on the site unl at least October when a new programme of planng at the site will take place. This includes the planng of a further 2,000 trees and all being well the planng programme should be nearly complete by the end of March 2019.

Plans are it will connue as it was before, a woodland with access for dog walkers and public etc. It will obviously be some years before it is grown up but it is open for all as it always has been. There have been one or two requests for seats and maybe some signage which we are happy to accommodate when all works are complete. Regards, Marn.”

Flower Fesval to mark the centenary of the end of World War 1 - 25th and 26th August Over August Bank Holiday weekend St Mary’s will be hosng a flower fesval to mark the centenary of the end of World War 1. It is parcularly poignant as St Mary’s has a stained-glass window celebrang the life of Lt H H Anson who died on 30th August 1918. We have invited organisaons, businesses and individuals from the village to enter arrangements on the theme of “War and Hambleton” to mark this very special anniversary. How you choose to portray this emove theme is down to you. Whether you look at the military, the civilian or the home or which century is enrely down to individual parcipants.

Harvest Fesval and Scarecrow Sunday 30th September It looks like it will be an early harvest with such sunny weather, but we celebrate the harvest of all the fruits of the earth and enjoy making up scarecrows to decorate the church and village and not just to scare the crows!
