More Than News Change is Coming Time has changed every thing and everyone. 100 years ago things were quite different. Woodrow Wilson was running for president, the Titanic Sank, New Mexico and Arizona were admitted as States; The Standard Steel Car Company produced a car with 6cylinders and whopping 29 horse power. The first feasible tractor would not become common place on the farms until after 1917 when Ford built a factory to mass produce the Ford son. Other things that happened in 1912include the Girl Scouts being chartered in America, Tiger Stadium and Fenway Park were opened. As we look over the past hundred years, we can see how things have changed. Back in 1912 there was no rural electricity and indoor plumbing was only in the city. The cars were awkward and slow, the phone system was in its infancy, there were no computers or high-speed planes, no space ships or wireless phones. We were mostly a rural society that depended up on large families to do a lot of hard hand labor. What a change in the last 100 years. My Mom’s biggest and best event as a teenager was the day rural electric hooked up their house on the farm. Her second best day was when indoor plumbing was fin-ished. For her, the Good Old Days began when both indoor plumbing and electricity came to the farm. Introducing electricity changed the farm forever. As we look back we are reminded to look forward. Now, it is true that we will not be able to compre-hend what is coming down the road. Just as Orville and Wilbur Wright had no idea how much and how fast their little experiment would change the world. While Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison had a vision for their inventions, I am sure they would marvel at the computers, cell phones, and I phones as well as all the other inventions and technologies that their inventions helped spawn. What lies ahead of us, we do not know. We do know this one thing. Anthony is going to change. Right now we are hoping the changes will be for the best. It will take a willingness to change the way we do things here in Anthony. It will take a willingness to invite our new neighbors and friends to church and make them feel welcome. We have the opportunity to be God's servants by welcoming new persons to Anthony and to the United Methodist Church. Let us begin the New Year by praying for the wisdom and strength to face the changes coming to An-thony and Harper County. Let us seek God's help through the power of the Holy Spirit to be faithful servants here at Anthony United Methodist Church . Your Pastor, Terry McGuire

A Special Thank You I want to thank everyone for all you have done for me this last year especially this last month when I

had to go in for a kidney procedure. I felt the prayers while I was there and afterwards. Also for those of

you who asked and called me to see how I was doing. I am so thankful to have all of you in my life. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and now a

Happy New Year. Connie Netahla

A NEW YEAR WITH THE LORD

A new year is about to unfold With new opportunities to explore

Doors will open for new experiences New adventures with the Lord

Remember not the former things The things of this past year

The Lord will do new things in us Much more than we are aware For He will make a way for us As we put our trust in Him

And He will guide our every step By His presence we have within

What God has placed within our hearts We find we’ll be able to do

If we look for the opportunities We’ll see the door to go through

We mustn’t let anything hold us back But rise up and take our place

And be all that God wants us to be With a fresh touch of His grace

By M.S. Lowndes

A CHRISTMAS CONFESSION (… a manger...because there was no room…”)

“Lord, things haven’t changed much. Room for you was tight from the start. I suppose you expected that. I mean, the inn was full, and I’m sure you didn’t really

want anyone to move. Just think of the inconven-ience. And the innkeeper’s reputation. Besides, all

their minds were on important things—like their fami-lies, and local politics, and religion. Surely, you didn’t

want to intrude on all that. And, Lord, if they’d let you in and given you the best room, who would have paid? After all you didn’t want people to run them-selves short, di you, Lord? Not at Christmas time,

anyway. But that manger, Lord. That’s the thing that really

bothers me. You see, Lord, I think...I mean.. maybe I Have put you in a manger too.”

JANUARY 2012

There will not any circle meetings

for the month of January.

Next Year Only Newsletters will be mailed out. Cost wise the Upper Room was too costly to mail out to everyone. Besides we were not sure every-one was using it. You may pick one up at the church on Sunday or anytime the church is open. Office hours are on the cover of this newsletter. If it is impossible for you to get to the church to get your Upper Room then give us a call at 842-5486 and somehow we will find a way to get yours to you.

Thanks to the Methodist ladies for the delicious cookies that was delivered to me. Thanks for thinking of me. In Christian Love, Joy Dodgen

I want to thank all of the cookie bakers and deliverers for the plate of delicious diabetic cookies. I had them with cof-fee and mmm good they were. God’s Blessings, Frances Walker

Thank You Thank You so much for sending me the church newsletter. I enjoy it a lot. It has shown marked improvements. It is fun to see the pictures and especially ones that show such marked growth in the children since I last saw some of them in 2009. I am doing fine for a person who just turned 86 and con’t complain. Living in an apart-ment sure helps and being near my family is so nice. My granddaughter, Alyssa, is a freshman now and 14. My grandson, Alex, turned 8 in Oct. He and his dad went to Disneyland in Florida to celebrate. I think often of my Anthony friends and keep them and Anthony UMC in my prayers. Your kindness means so much! Marilyn Crenshaw

Thanks to All of You!

It is hard to find words

nice enough to thank people nice as you.

Thank you very much for the 265 pounds of canned goods you donated to us last weekend. It is greatly appreciated. Also a big thank you for all the money you do-nate to Larry’s for the Food Bank. Anthony is a great place to live because the people are very generous, not just at the Holidays but all year long. Mary Ellen Kujawa, Manager
