Newsletter VOLUME 27 NUMBER 2 – DECEMBER 2012

PRESIDENT’S PATTER

G’day Everyone,

I would like to welcome the new Committee members

to their respective roles. You will find all the names &

addresses inside. I (and the Association) appreciate

them all putting their name forward. Without these

wonderful volunteers giving their time we wouldn’t have

an Association.

How good was the 17th ACA Convention in Adelaide?

It is always nice to catch up with everyone, although

the weekend seems to go so fast. A WONDERFUL job

was done by the Committee & all their helpers. Every

person I have spoken to has had a great story to tell.

Simone Nichols Pace was a terrific guest instructor &

having her dad Bill Nichols was a wonderful bonus.

Listening to Bill’s talk on the history of clogging was

amazing, and then to have our Edith continue with the

history of Australian clogging…well, it doesn’t get much

better.

I must also give South Australia a huge congratulations

on winning this year’s Showcase. ‘Play that Country

Music’, choreography by Irmgard Huddy, will go on the

Intermediate dance list automatically. For any

teachers who received their USB ‘guitar’ of music and

are still having problems getting them all into the same

format, please contact me and we will get it sorted for you.

Also a HUGE Congratulations to Frances Look on

receiving this year’s Hall of Fame. Well done to a very

deserving lady.

There was some great choreo taught, which, along with

all the other choreo taught throughout the last year at

various festivals such as Storm King, Aussie Clog,

Anglesea & Bundanoon, as well as the National

Convention, gives us all a lot to choose from for the

next dance list.

I hope everyone got their Round 1 voting back to

Kathy. With 4 going from each of the Basic/Easy

Intermediate & Intermediate levels and 3 from the

Intermediate+ as well as 2 from Advanced it will be

interesting to see what everyone votes for. How

exciting!!!

I have just heard what a great time was had at Clog On

at Anglesea. Apparently the ‘fairies’ arrived & I hear

the ‘tarts’ were delicious!!! Shame I had to miss it.

Don’t forget to get your registrations in for the

18th National Convention in Queanbeyan, Sept 2013; if

you register by March 1st you might win back the price

of your weekend registration. Also Storm King is

coming up on 8/9/10th March. There is a registration

form inside.

We will all be getting organised for our Christmas

parties soon. Wow, where did that year go? Seems like

only a short while ago we were starting the year.

Christmas will be upon us before we know it. I hope

everyone enjoys a wonderful & merry festive season.

Those that may be travelling…please take care & travel

safe. Enjoy the time with your family & friends, it is

very precious.

Remember if you use Facebook, you might like to join

us on ‘Australian Clogging Association – One Big Family’.

It’s amazing what you learn.

That’s about it from me so until next time –

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS & A JOYOUS &

PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

Hillbillies Cloggers, Pymble

Great to see Arrie dancing again after her surgery.

We missed her smiling face.

Peter is back from the archaeological dig in Israel.

What a great experience for him.

Angela is coming for short periods, she is busy

minding George at present.

And lots of beginners started at Pymble

The Club is in recess from 13th

Sunstate Cloggers

Leaders: Olive Borovsky & Stephen Hope

We have settled down, after the excitement of the

Adelaide ACA Convention, to enjoy the wonderful

new dances. It was a great Convention, the venue

was outstanding, terrific sound, food and

atmosphere. WELL DONE, Adelaide Convention

Committee, everything flowed perfectly.

An outstanding moment for me and all the other

cloggers, was the evening Simone took over the

stage and held us all in the palm of her hand with

her charm and enthusiasm. What an exciting

person she is! The next cuer remarked “Why can’t I

get you to do that?”

It was terrific to see the younger cloggers

workshopping with Josh and Della, with the evening

demonstration loudly applauded by the entire floor.

Lots of fun for all in the huge “roundup” to say

hello to every clogger.

The Queenslanders thoroughly enjoyed the

beautiful city of Adelaide, sightseeing every day, we

fell in love with the lovely green parks, glorious old

churches etc etc etc !!

Back at the farm, we’re dancing THAT MAN,

STRENGTH OF A WOMAN, TRAIL OF TEARS and

other mind boggling dances with Stephen, plus

many more, keeping us on our toes and happy.

See you on the floor again soon

Forever dancin’

Dancin’ forever

Get Rhythm Dance Team

Brisbane

Leaders: Stephen Hope and Frances Look

Definition of the word TEAM: a group of people

working together; and that sums up the time, effort

and true dedication members of the Get Rhythm

Dance Team have shown once again throughout the

year.

As reported in earlier editions of the ACA

Newsletter, we have been a part of this year’s

Senior Superstar Contest.

Having won it in 2011, we were paid the

compliment of being asked to help promote this

year’s Contest in Brisbane and the new one now

being staged in Logan.

Invitations from other sources were accepted with

pleasure as we showed a wide- ranging audience

what Clogging is all about- and they loved it, as we

loved performing for them.

Thanks to the costume designers/seamstresses

(multi-talented would be putting it mildly) within

the Team; to all Team members for your input into

the Team’s activities; and to Stephen for his

amazing commitment to the Team.

Yes, we’re looking forward to being ‘on the road

again’ in 2013.

To all our supporters may we wish you a happy and

holy Christmas, and that the New Year is a year of

good health, good fortune and good friends.

Cheers,

Stephen & Frances

50 Plus Activities Centre

157 Ann Street

Brisbane City

Leaders: Olive, Dian, Frances Yes! That’s right, we will be back Clogging every

Monday morning at our beautiful Brisbane City Hall

as of the 4th

February now that the restoration work

has been completed.

Every Monday is special to the Cloggers who make

the trip into the CBD so as to enjoy their favourite

pastime, but our first day back at City Hall will be an

occasion to remember; so come along and join us.

Sincerest thanks to the Brisbane City Council for

providing a quality temporary venue at 157 Ann

Street while the mammoth job was being carried

out, and for making available a large new area

within our beautiful City Hall for the 50 Plus Activity

Centre to continue to provide a place in the City,

not only for Clogging but a host of other activities.

Best wishes to all for the coming year.

Double Jingle Cloggers

Lutwyche

Leaders: Frances and Dian

Lutwyche, Being fairly central on the Brisbane map,

Double Jingle continues to attract Cloggers from all

points of our fair city, and being a daytime Club

enjoys the attendance of many who have evening

commitments.

The Christmas Break-up was, as always, a morning

of a hall full of happy feet. The spread was delicious,

with a strong feeling of friendship and good times

filling the air. Thanks to all for helping on the day

and also throughout the year- you are all part of

Team D. J.!

Christmas time gives us all a chance to give thanks

for what we have been able to take part in and be a

part of during the year: have an enjoyable

‘intermission’ in your dance-time and enjoy this

special part of the year.

Happy New Year, with just a gentle reminder to

mark in your diary/calendar that we will be revving

up for another year of Clogging when we C U on 7th

February 2013.

Love & Best Wishes,

Leaders: Frances Look, Stephen Hope

With another year of Clogging coming to an end at the Red Cross Hall at Greenslopes, we all look back at the enjoyment received of a Monday evening at Chugs.

The Christmas Party, organised by Shirley, with help from Royale and Dell and ably assisted on the night by many willing workers, was another feast of food, fun, friendship and some great cueing and dancing.

Thanks to the visitors who joined our members for a ‘real good time’.

Best wishes to all from the crew at Chugs for a Happy Festive Season and a brilliant New Year. May you and yours receive and enjoy all that you wish and pray for.

See you back on the floor next year, starting Monday 4

ACA NZ State Report

Hello everyone

Like you, we are also in the middle of

selecting new dances for next year’s

dance list. There are some ‘runaway’

favourites already. All NZ clubs are on a

wind-down with Xmas socials happening.

Adelaide Convention was a great

weekend. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Congratulations to the committee for all

their hard work. Canberra next year looks

as though there will only be a couple of

us, but we have booked accommodation

as was suggested.

May 3-4-5 Convention Auckland is all

ready to go. All the Registration info: and

forms are available on line through

Facebook and the Rhythm Cloggers

webpage

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~mogul/

Yes, we have set up a Facebook page for

Rhythm Cloggers If you haven’t already,

take a look.

Our guest instructor is Barry Welch from

USA, he may be known to some. He has

been clogging for years and is in great

demand. Catch up with his bio on the

Registration brochure.

Val Terris is ready for registrations and

any queries. Contact her on Email:

[email protected]

Susie Evans will arrange weekend

shuttles for you from accommodation to

the venue. Contact her on Email:

[email protected]. There is a

separate list of accommodation that is

fairly close to the venue, but too far to

walk. The suggested accommodations are

the better ones in the area. There are

others that are not on the shuttle pick up.

If you want to know more about those,

maybe check with Karyn Nicholson as she

lives in the area.

Email: [email protected]

The venue Waitakere College is in West

Auckland, accessible from either the city

side or the North Shore. The area

Waitakere Ranges is great for trampers,

hikers and walkers. From the venue it’s

only a 22 minute drive or 27 minutes on

the scenic route. Check out this webpage

http://www.aucklandnz.com/destinations

/waitakere-ranges

We are looking forward to seeing many of

you again, but also those who have not

yet ventured across to see us – come for

a holiday and stay for the convention. We

would love to see you here.

Merry Christmas to you all. Enjoy time

with family and friends and stay safe.

From the Committee of the 18th ACA National Clogging Convention:

It was great to hear that so many people have already organised accommodation for the convention to be held from 13 to 15 September 2013 in beautiful downtown Queanbeyan. Yes, that's NSW but it's just a hop, skip and a jump from the ACT. It's actually closer to Canberra airport than most of Canberra. It will be a busy time in a very busy year for our part of the world but a great time to visit the ACT and

surrounding region.

Now that your accommodation is organised, don't forget to register! We are pleased to announce that the Number One Registration is held by none other than new Newsletter Editor, Erica Mann. Thanks Erica but no prize for you - yet. The Earlybird Prize draw will take place in

early March so there's plenty of opportunity for you to have your weekend ticket price refunded.

Convention convenor, Kathy Hedger, is currently in the USA, and amongst other things attending the US National Convention in Nashville and meeting up with our Guest Instructor, Matt Sexton. More news and a progress report will be available in the next newsletter.

Convention brochure, accommodation information, cuer/instructor nomination form and the dancer registration form are all available for download from the ACA website and all except the brochure are included in this newsletter for those who have not seen them yet. Keep those registrations coming! If you need help with accommodation or travel arrangements, contact Kellie Woodward whose contact details are in the brochure.

A message from your dreaded Video Man

Hi everyone! This is just a short message to say a big thank you to all the Leaders and Teachers who participated in the Teach Video in

Adelaide. At conventions it is very difficult to get the timing right for everyone so they don’t miss out on the workshops we think they

would like to do. After receiving the program, sometimes a week before the event, we sit down and try to align your times.

First we look at when your arrival at the event, when your workshop is being held, at what level you are teaching, and if you are doing

the music for someone else teaching. We also have some who don’t like to be first or while others are around - it can be a nervous

time. . We had a couple of first timers in Adelaide and I would like to say they did an excellent job. Thanks to all bringing their Cue

Sheets and remembering to have their back to me when teaching. With over 45 to do on a Convention weekend I am very

appreciative of the support from all the Cloggers.

A special thankyou to those who helped move my equipment from the video room to the hall where we did the History of Clogging (a

very special event.) - and back again in record time. I would also like to thank my wife Jenny, Dell Sutcliffe and Graeme Brown for

their help on the weekend.

Hope to see you all in Queanbeyan next year or Storm King and Aussie Clog. …. Cheers Dennis

for a snug fit. Other features include a padded collar and tongue and shock absorbing
