ACLC/ÖSZ: Development
• Originally a branch of a School development Centre, implemented by the Educational Ministry
• School development = to trial school innovation projects – on a large scale, – for a certain period of time– with a large quantity of schools/ teachers
• After the evaluation of trialling phase: innovation could become integral part of the educational system, or not.
• Example: single school type für lower secondary (ISCED 2)

National work: Transfer from theory into practice
In this branch we devise and produce all kinds of exemplary materials (print, audio, video …)Examples:• CEFR-oriented teaching:
European Language Portfolios, Training materials für Educational Standards
• Language-sensitive materials for „vulnerable groups“ (e.g. migrants)

National work: Dissemination, Networking, Implementation
„SPrachenInnovationsNetzwerk“- database helps schools to learn from other schools.
Targeted school development takes place in small regions.
In the National Language Committee, language policy networking & development is initiated. New ideas are generated, ways of implementation are sought.

National language strategy: Using the Language Policy Profiling Programme (LEPP)
• LEPP is a strategic policy development scheme offered by the Council of Europe, following 4 steps:
– Self reflection and inside view of the „target country“ ( „Country report“)
– Experts‘ study visit (1 week) to provide outside view on the basis of the Country report + study visit (Experts‘ report)
– Round Table Discussion to deepen reflection and exchange of views and to develop a common position
– Production of the „Country Profile“ by the expert group in very close co-operation with the national authorities.
• ÖSZ was commissioned by the Ministry to plan, organise, monitor and document the full LEPP process.
