From the Editor

Last issue had a much appreciated report onAustralian SAM activities; this issue welcomes JohnAndrews from the UK and Editor of SAM 1066's NewClarion; sections of AVANZ News have appeared inseveral overseasVintagenewsletters, and it hasbeenadded to the newsletter page onSAMUSA'sweb site. All thesearepositive steps in sharing informationwith, and receiving it back from, the Vintage community.

One of the notions we seem to have picked up fromoverseas is that an aeromodelling year is divided intoa flying season in the warmer months and a buildingseason in the cooler months. Looking back to the1970's, I do not recall there being such a split in theyear's activities - flying and building went on all yearround. Certainly, winter flying sessions were shorter,a little less frequent, and an extra woolly jumper wascalled for, but there was never a period when flyingwas ruled out simply because it wasn't "the season".

Whether we blame winter model flying inactivity onadvancing years, climate change, or any other handyscapegoat, opting out of putting on that extra woollyjumper carries the onus of actually doing the otherthing - building. It's easy to go overboard with this andstart several projects rather thanconcentratingononeat a time. The result can be a lack of progress on allfronts and a frustration that, while trying to make thebest use of it, time is in fact wasted.

Guidance is to be found in Vintage wisdom - in thiscase quoted in an engaging little book by ElisabethBailey called "The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating"Think not of the amount to be accomplished andthe difficulties to be overcome, or the end to beattained, but set earnestly at the little task atyour elbow, letting that be sufficient for theday. Sir William Osler (1849-1919)Oriental advice from Kobayashi Issa, 1763-1828, istypically succinct and existential

Climb Mount FujiO snail .... but slowly, slowly.

I may just have space and time enough to engrave thesecond quote onto my Stanley knife before I checkwhat's at my elbow and return to the slow climb .... or,maybe, even put on that extra woolly jumper.

COMMITTEE NOTICES

FREE FLIGHT NOSTALGIA AND CLASSIC GLIDER AT THE NATIONALS

There has been little support for the FF SIG's Classic A/2 Glider at recentNationals. The FF SIG has suggested combining the event with the VintageSIG's Nostalgia Glider Duration and Classic Glider Duration events, whichwould thenbe flownasasingle combinedevent called FreeFlightNostalgiaandClassic Glider Combined.

The time span of Classic A/2 already qualifies such gliders to fly in existingVintage events as either aNostagiaGlider or aClassicGlider, but by combiningthe two events, all Classic A/2s will be able to fly in the same event.

The Vintage Committee has agreed to trial this at the next Nationals, as it willextend theopportunity for free flighters to flyClassicA/2models in a singleevent

and hopefully boost entries over those previously obtained in the separately runNostalgia Glider Duration event and in the Classic Glider Duration componentof the Classic Combined event. FF Vintage Glider will continue as a separateevent.

In the interest of clarity, at the next Nationals the existing Classic Combinedevent will be renamed Free Flight Classic Power and Rubber Combined. Forentry and competition points purposes, the Free Flight Nostalgia and ClassicGlider Combined event will be under the auspices of the Vintage SIG.

These trial alterations apply only to the upcoming Nationals and do not changein any way existing competition or NDC arrangements.

VINTAGE FLYING RULES Completion of Re-formatting Project

The Vintage SIG Committee has completed a project that has re-formattedand edited the Vintage Flying Rules, incorporating a revised Code ofPractice. Bernard Scott managed this process and edited the document,Wayne Cartwright assisted him, and the Committee reviewed the draft.

The project aimed to improve layout and readability without changing themeaning of the rules. Three rules actually did require relatively minorchanges, and these were recently approved by email vote. The Rules canbe downloaded from the Vintage Page and Competition Rules Page of theMFNZ website.

TWO BELATED AWARDSThe Committee is pleased to recognise Rex Anderson as the winner ofthe 2015 IC Tomboy Contest. Rex's score of 1432 was made using aDoonside Mills. The winning score of 1782 in the 2015 Electric TomboyContest was also recorded by Rex Anderson. The winning scores, along with the second highest scores in bothcontests, were all made at the NI Vintage Championships.Congratulations to Rex who has been presented with the two $50 prizesfor the events.

NORTHERN NORTH ISLAND RC VINTAGE CONTEST COMMITTEEThis Committee, comprising Dave Crook and Tony Gribble, is noworganising and running RC Vintage contest / rally flying in the NNI. If youhave enquiries or suggestions, contact Dave at [email protected].

Hi Bernard,Pleased to hear theNewClarionhasa following, itmakesthe effort worthwhile. Thanks for copy of AVANZ News, a really good effort, Iwish I could get the same picture definition with the NewClarion and still keep a reasonable file size. The conceptof publishing in Landscape is excellent, it makes a wholepage readable. Iwould like todo thesamewithourNCbutI know many people print it out to book form for fellowmodellers. At one time if I published an issue with morethan 50 pages one modeller, who used to print out 6copies for friends, said he had to iron the pages to keepwithin postal charge limits. Things have changed sincethen.I've alwaysmaintained that contestants want to see a fulllist of results, the also rans like to know where theyfinished. I do not like reports that only list winners.I may pinch some of your content sometime if I may? Please feel free to purloin some of mine if anything takesyour fancy. Please keep me up to date with AVANZ.I will try to put a picture package together for you from ourNationals at the end of this month. INCOMING 2 Neville Mines

Whilst searching around the web for Ray Malmstrom's designs I came across the July / August AVANZ newsletter with the Push Up planin it. I recall buying the Model Aircraft magazine in which that was published, and in the write-up with it Ray stated that you could write tohim for a copy of the drawings of the "crew". So, with the enthusiasm of a 13 year old I did just that. Attached are the drawings he sentme and the letter that accompanied them. I thought you may find them of interest. Regards, Neville Mines.

INTRODUCTORY EVENTS at the 2017 VINTAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Vintage and Classical Texaco Scale andClassical 1/2E Texaco classeswill be flown for the first time at the NI RC Vintage Championships next March. They will also be included in the April and May NNI events that follow and, givensufficient interest, at the 2018 Nationals.

Scale Texaco already has three starters, and it is hoped that many more fliers will beencouraged to participate in this event. Allan Knox‘s article on the class starts on page 11and suitable subjects will be presented over the next few issues. There is no shortage ofgood-flying, easy-building subjects, as Allan points out. Remember that Scale Texacodoes not demand scale accuracy because we build according to the plans of the Vintageand Classical periods when many subjects were drawn up for flying characteristics ratherthan exactness. It is the Texaco element that is the main emphasis, and because of theway our rules have been worded, this can be approached using any one of three poweroptions.

Your entry could be powered by a Cox .049 - in effect a 1/2A Texaco model from a scaleplan. Alternatively, it could use the option taken from Open Texaco where fuel is allottedaccording to wing area. For those who don‘t want to be bothered by fuel residue, it couldtakeanE-Texacoapproachusing thebatteryallowanceof this class. So, thereare options, even before getting to the choice of subject. There is no scale judging in this event, butat the 2017 Champs a special Concours d‘Elegance award will be made on the basis ofoverall appearance, this being decided by the votes of all fliers at the Championships.

Classical1/2ETexacohas rulessimilar toVintage1/2Ebut theeligibledesignsare from1951-75 and there is no age bonus and no landing bonus. To theCommittee's knowledge,no-one has yet built for this class, so this makes it a suitable candidate for making the firstofficial event a One-Design Contest. This should give Classical 1/2E a good kick-start atthe 2017Champsandat the timeofwriting, there are five starters for the event. The chosendesign has to be economical, quick and easy to build, and have the potential to remaincompetitive when other designs appear at later events. The design considered to bestmeet requirements is Jumpin' Bean from the Aeromodeller of January 1955. Built to 42"wingspan, the wing area is 223 square inches, right on what has been found to be a sweetspot for Vintage 1/2E Texaco. As a bonus, a second use for Jumpin' Bean would be inClassical Precision in which Graham Main's 2015 Nationals win with a Gigi showed thatsmaller models can be competitive.

Gwyn Avenell of Avetec can supply laser-cut Jumpin' Bean kits for $64.40 plus postage. These are very complete (see contents at right) and using one will greatly speedconstruction. Orders may be placed directly with Gwyn at [email protected] pdf of the plan is available if you wish to print your own, or full size plans will be availableat cost - both from the editor.

As a further incentive to build for theOne-DesignEvent, therewill be a drawat theChampsto select one Jumpin' Bean flier who will have the cost of his kit refunded.

We now have new rules for Scale Texaco thanks to the remitthat was passed at the Nationals. I’m hoping it will bepopular. I certainly enjoy my little 1/2A Chiltern DW1 whichwas built for the 1/2A Texaco class.

Imagine, a good looking scale model that you can proudlytake down to the strip on Sundays to fly with all those clubmates flying around with their scale foamies, and you alsohave a great looking competition model for vintage days.Who knows, do a good enough job and you could even fly itin scale contests ...….

The new rules allow a huge range of potential models. Anyplan, R/C or FF scale, published before 1976 is fair game andyou can even convert a rubber scale plan thus opening up allthose light scale designs that were so prolific in the vintageera. Also, what about those great little scale models fromthe 50s designed for small English Diesels? They may nothave flown too well as free flighters but with the addition ofmodern lightweight radio they would be ideal. Remembertoo, you are not confined to just rudder and elevator, inScale Texaco you can make these models full house usingsome of the cheap as chips servos from the likes of HobbyKing.

There are two options for IC power plants, the ubiquitousCox Babe Bee, or anything else. Fuel economy is essentialfor Texaco events so I recommend a 4 stroke glow or qualitydiesel like a PAW F in other words, motors that work for AFTexaco and Open Texaco. If you are adventurous, you mighteven try spark conversion of a 4 stoke and move to petrol

which has the potential to double run times.

Models with powerplants other than the Babe Bee have a540 second target flight time with their tanks set up as inOpen Texaco, that is, 1cc for every 50 sq inches of wingarea (rounded down to the last full 50 sq in) as measured byNZ rules. In Open Texaco we fly a 15 minute maximum, always a hard ask, but for Scale we have a easier target thatis achievable with the right model and engine setFup.

What would be the right size model for nonFBabe Beemodels? I think something around 60 inches, built down to8 oz sq foot would be good. Anything bigger is likely to beabove minimum loading due to the cube rule (*). So let’ssay 60 inch, 500 sq inches of wing at 8 oz per sq foot thatgives a weight of 28 oz. This would be great for a 2.5cc PAWBB RC. Or even an OS20 4 stroke if you build light enough, though the 4 stroke is likely to weigh twice as much as thediesel.

Babe Bee powered models get a 120 sec bonus on eachflight so their maximum is 420, a minute less than in 1/2ATexaco. This should be achievable despite the drag of scaledetails if you build to around 300 sq inches at 16 F 17 ozs.Set the Cox up with a big prop such as a 9x4.7 Slow Fly andwith a run of over 5 minutes, Bob’s your Uncle. (Bernardpublished information on this set up in AVANZ News 147)

All models can also score 20 points for each spot landing.

As for a models, there are thousands of designs out there, but monoplanes with reasonably high aspect ratios and bigwings would be best. Think motor glider and you get theidea. The little light sport aviation aircraft of the 30s and 40sare also good as they had to make do with very low powerengines so had to be lightly loaded and efficient. Someexamples: Dart Kitten, Klemm, DH Moth Minor, BA Swallow(my favourite) and there are many more. I like theSchweizer SG 30 glider tug with its long high aspect ratiowing.

If you want a more universal contest model then that ispossible too. Choose a scale IC power free flight model

design that is Vintage and qualifies for normal Texacoevents. Provided you use only rudder and elevator flightcontrols you could fly Vintage Precision and Vintage ICTexaco events with your scale model.

I need a new 1/2A Texaco model because the Chilton is a bitbig and heavy so I’m going to build a Piper Cub from a 1940Megow plan that will do for both Scale and ½ A Texaco. Ithas extra dihedral on the plan and will be lovely on rudderelevator at about 45 inch span and 16F17 ozs.

Where do you go for plans? Old Aeromodellers for thoselittle diesel scale models or, if you are like me, then straightinto OuterZone on the Net. If you can’t find somethingamongst the thousands of free plans then you are hard toplease! Remember that you can scale up and down to suitand amend structure within the rules. I always recommendbeefing up undercarriage wire sizes and tie the gear intosubstantial structure to survive those spot landings.

That’s it then. Have a go, there is something very specialabout building a scale model and now you can get to enjoy itin the Vintage competition scene too.

Remember there are at least two opportunities to fly TexacoScale in the NDC calendar and in time, if we support theclass, then it will be flown at regular contest weekends.Perhaps best of all, you will get to share some sport flyingtime down at the club strip and have a chance to introduceclub mates to a class of Vintage flying they can relate to.

Allan Knox

VINTAGE SCALE TEXACO Allan Knox

(*) Cube rule. The way I think about this is F if I scale up amodel to twice the wing span it will have 4 times the surfacearea (2 squared) and 8 times the volume (2 Cubed). Nowassuming the same materials (same density) then weight isproportional to volume so the model is 8 times as heavy! Now wing loading weight / wing area. Let’s say our modelwas 8 oz/ sq foot before scaling up F when doubling thespan, its loading goes up 8/4 x 8 = 16 ozs/ sq foot. Darn!

Step OneWhen you purchase the 049 engine it is best notto try to run the engine. Start by disassemblingthe engine. This is a simple five minute job. Pulloff the plastic pick up tube. It is usually hard.Throw the tube away. Assumingweare using anold Babe Bee, pull out the retainer clip andremove the reed, usually a copper one.

Step TwoPut all the parts in some type of cleaner. I usecarburetor cleaner with a dip basket. Let it soakfor one to two hours. Don’t leave it overnight orforget and leave it for a long period of time or theparts may become tarnished.Step ThreeWhenparts are ready to comeout, put on rubbergloves as the carburetor cleaner is toxic.

Find a cup or a can and fill it one half full withdenatured alcohol. This is less toxic thanmethanol alcohol. Methanol can be absorbedthru the skin and cause health problems. Atoothbrush and Q-tips are good tools to cleanparts. Clean parts, then pick out the venturigasket and head gasket carefully. The headgasket can be reused. Give special attention tothe back plate. If you have compressed air, blowout the venture passage and fill tube.Step FourThe goal in putting this engine back together isto make sure it doesn’t leak fuel or air and has apick up tube that completely empties the tank. The pick up tube requires a drill press and alength of aluminum 1/16 outside diameter tube.Step FiveTake the back plate and put it on the drill presstable.Chuck upa1/16drill bit and set the stop onthe drill press so the bit can’t go any deeper thanthe casting. The nipple is protruding fiom thecasting 5/32 of an inch. You are going to drillinside this nipple 5/32 deep. Go slow and becareful or your drill bit can come out the side.Don’t drill too deep or youwill get into the needlevalve housing and Venturi. Bend a l/16 diametertube to clear the tank intake tube and cut thelength so that it is right on the bottom of the backplate on the tank line. Rolling the tube with arazorbladeorexactoknifemakes thecutting thiseasy. Sand with fine paper and make sure thereis no foreign matter in the tube.

Step SixGluing the tube in the nipple is one thing I havenot perfected. Most adhesives including JBweldwill not hold up toalcohol andnitromethane.Thebest I have come up with is to carefully glue thetube in with JB weld. Be careful to put a smallamount on tube only. Sanding the tube helpsadhesion. Let cure overnight.

Step SevenNext put a small amount of silicone around thenipple. While it is still wet slide a 1/4 inch heatshrink tube over the silicone and shrink this toprotect the JB Weld. Even if the J B weld fails, the tube will still work pretty well.Step EightThe tank is next. The back plate and tank almostalways leak.Oneway to solve this is to clean thetankgroove.Fill thegroove1/3 to1/2half filllwithgasket silicone.Work around with a Qtip and letcure overnight.Step NineNext install the reed in the tank. Thebest reed touse is a stainless steel reed. The old copperreeds work pretty well. Do not use Teflon reeds. They work poorly at lower rpms.Step TenBack plate screws are always a problem withthreadsholdingall kindsof foreignmatter.Anicetouch is to chuck them up in a drill press or latheand file off the sharp part of the threads leavingthe last 1/8 inch in full thread where it goes intothe crank case.Step ElevenNeedle Valves all seem to work equally well. The important thing to do with a needle valve isto cut or paint an indicator line so you can seethis when you tune the engine.

Step TwelveNext is the Venturi Gasket. Make sure thegasket is new. Either buy one at the Cox Supplyor you can make your own with black fuel tubeslid inside of a brass tube. Using a razor blade, cut thin gaskets off of the fuel tube using thebrass tube as a guide. It may take making morethan one to get a good one. I find it easier to waxthe razor blade. It cutswith less drag andmakesa truer cut.

Step ThirteenReassemble the engine with a new crank caseto tank gasket. Oil the piston and crank. Installcylinder and piston in the crankcase andassemble tank with the back plate. That shouldcomplete the assembly.Last but not least—Fill the tank with fuel andcheck for leaks. One spot to watch is the backplate screws. If one is leaking, remove it and puta small amount of silicone on it. The engine isnow ready to run.

Editor: Thanks to JohnButcher for sending thisarticle. There was as much again before whatappears here, dealing with the best motors toselect parts from, but as these motors areunlikely to be available here, this section wasomitted.Should anyonebe interested in readingit, I can email a copy on request.Comments:Step 6. Using JBweld or any other adhesive forthe 1/16 tube is unnecessary for plasticbackplates as the tube can be a force fit in thehole if this is drilled carefully.Step 9. Teflon andmylar reeds have been foundto work very well at low rpm (below 5000 rpm)in all the motors I have tuned.Step 10. Altering the backplate screws is amodification that is outside NZ rules.

WORK IN PROGRESSWhen it's not parked up a tree, the old Shadow does ok atVintage FF Precision, but recovering won't cure its fuelsoaked wood or its general tattiness. Having spent manyhours over the past ten years coming to accept its peculiarflight patterns, it seemed right to build another one - exactlythe same, but different. No more fuel saturation, the newone would be electric.

Possible pitfalls were considered, and a list of desirablefeatures was drawn up1. Adjustable motor run duration2. Motor speed control3. Dethermaliser4. Power cut-out on landing5. Fused power supply6. Battery accessible and of a common size.

1 - 3 couldhavebeensimply handledbyacommercial timerfor electric models, but I wanted to meet theserequirements, and the other three, with traditional, mechanicalmeans. The result is a rather heavy and clunkyset-up (think Arkwright's shop till rather than a moderncheck-out counter) but it works.

A trip-wire, arrowed at right, contacts the ground before thewheels, swings back and cuts current through the frontmicroswitch. The rear microswitch is held on by the pinkdisc which swings out, timed by the KSB,to cut motorpower. DT is activated in the usual way by the KSB timer.

The Voltaic Shadow is now ready for trmming.

BRITISH, JAPANESE and CONTINENTAL .049 ENGINES Pt.1 Chris MurphyIn the last column we looked at the heydayof 1/2A engines in the USA, a periodspanning roughly 15 years or so fromca1950 until the mid-1960s when themarket had been saturated and went intoslow decline. This decline spanned some30 years through into the late 90s and onlythe arrival of small electrics in the lastdecade really finished it off. By the mid1960s the US 1/2A market was firmly in thehands of Cox for both engines and RTFmodels, and Testors McCoy for RTFmodels.

Herkimer OK engines was still in business, but was largely an unseen player. Cox wasgarnering the competition glory whileTestors collected the accolades for RTFinnovation and development. That a huge market existed for small cheapentry level glow engines did not gounnoticed in other parts of the world, notleast because in the post WW2 era largenumbers of US military personnel werestationed in the UK, Germany and Japan. As a result, modelers and manufacturerswere exposed toUSmodelling trends eitherthough servicemen modelers, or through

US magazines such as ‘Model AirplaneNews’, ‘Flying Models’ and ‘Flying Aces’.

The financial aftermath of WW2, withsevere limitations on currency exchangeand tight restrictions on imports, coupledwith strong protection of localmanufacturers, meant local manufacturersin the UK, Europe and Japan sawopportunities in what was a new andgrowing market.

The 1950s was a time of great publicinterest in aviation, and aeromodelling wasa recognised aspect of this interest.InGermany and Japan both large and smallmanufacturers ventured into the 1/2Aarena. In Japan thewell established brandsofFuji andEnyaproducedboth049and061sizes, Fuji being content to follow the well-established style of early 1950s US 1/2Adesigns and Enya initially opting for reedvalves.

Fuji also saw the merit of producing smalloutboards, following Atwood and Allyn inthe US, producing 049 and 061 outboardsbased on their aero engine-and continuing

in later years with larger .15 and 19 sizes.Smaller firms such as KO, which hadlargely copied OK and Ohlsson & Ricedesigns for its larger.19 and .29 engines, produced a range of diesels in .049, .09and .15 sizes-of which the .049 owedmuch in style and design to the radialmount McCoy .049 ‘Duroglow’ diesel of1953.Interestingly, OS, as with Fox in the US,stood aloof from this new market, and didnot get involved until around 1961, whenthey produced the exquisite OS Max 6, aminiaturized OS Max in every respect butit was a case of too little, too late…..andmost importantly, too expensive! TheMax 6, just like the Fox 049 FAI onlysurvived a couple of years in the market.

Meanwhile, Fuji moved on to morecompetitive areas such as generalpurpose R/C and C/L motors, focusing onthe economy end of the market andproducing a range of enginesin .099, .11, .15, .19, .21, .25, .29, .35and .40 sizes. This was no doubt both asa consequence of better exportpossibilities in the US and UK and also asa result of competition from Cox in theJapanese home market.

BRITISH, JAPANESE and CONTINENTAL .049 ENGINES Chris MurphyEnya continued with 1/2A engines right upinto the 1970s, the rear reed valve modelshaving been replaced by front inductionmodels in both standard and integral R/Ccarb variants. The .06 model also beingavailable as a .08 and a .10, which makeslittle production sense in terms of theexisting long established and wellperforming Enya 09 engine. There is abelief that these ‘odd’ sizes were onlymadefor the domestic market, and neverexported. Both the early reed valve andlater front induction .06 engines were alsoproduced as diesels, but apparently thiswas never applied to the .049 models. There was interest and a range ofmanufacturers large and small in bothGermanys, although those in EastGermany were constrained as to what andhow much they could manufacture. In thewest, Webra was the largest manufacturerand from 1954 produced the .048 Piccolodiesel, a compact little unit that owed a lot tothe 1953 McCoy Duroglo.

Later this engine evolved into a beammount red head version and finally in themid-60s into a plain head version equippedwith a spring starter that was still available

into the early 1970s.

ThePiccolo glowwas introduced in 1956, inresponse to a request from Schucho-Hegifor a suitable power plant for their ARTFC/L trainers. The Piccolo glow representeda new design, while showing Atwoodinfluence, and delivering a similarperformance, peaking at an unusually high(for the time) 18,000rpm. The Piccolo glowdesign formed the basis for the last modelPiccolo diesel, suggesting that it wasinherently a much better design than theoriginal Piccolo….!

Jaguar diesels were produced in smallnumbers in 0.5cc, 0.8cc and 2.5cc sizes, allto a common design, with black heads andspinners, and with the almost standardGerman layout of both beam and radialmounting lugs on the crankcase (also usedby OK and Wenmac in the US).

The other big manufacturer was HansHornlein, producing a range of diesels forthe big Graupner company from ca 1951onwards. His ‘Taifun’ brand engine rangewas well marketed in NZ where by somequirk of distribution it was still possible to

find examples of the 1cc Hobby diesel onshop shelves right into the 1980s. But, hisinnovative and distinctive Foxie 0.44ccglow of 1960 never made it into productionas Graupner had acquired the Europeandistribution rights for Cox and did not wantone of their own products competingdirectly with the Pee Wee.

So, this distinctive little engine with reardisc, not reed valve, never made it to theshops. Many years later, Ronald Valentineproduced a number of versions using a mixof the original and his own produced parts. It is believed that parts for 200 Foxies weremanufactured, making it a rare beast. TheValentineunits came ina rangeof colours inboth diesel and glow versions. So, theGerman contribution to 1/2A was relativelysmall, with only Webra getting an .049 onthe market in numbers.

The first modelWebra .8cc Piccoloappeared in 1954,shows McCoy 049Dinfluence

The second model Piccolo went to beam mountsbut retained the red squat head shape

The final modelPiccolo acquireda spring starterand was stillavailable intothe early 1970s.

The Piccolo glow wasdeveloped by Webraca. 1957 for SchucoFHegi RTF C/L modelsFthe crankcase alsoserved for the final1960s model Mk3Piccolo diesel.

The German Jaguar0.8cc followed the samelayout as the larger2.5cc and smaller 0.5ccmodels; manufacturedby Josef Schmidt inMunich.

I have just come into possession of anETA .29 which is offered for sale. Themotor's development can be found athttp:/www.modelenginenews.org/cardfile/eta29.html I wouldidentify this motor asa Mk III by the serialnumber, except theplug is canted whichis only supposed toapply to the originalMk I. Either way, itwould be a niceaddition to acollection. Downsidesare a missing spraybar/needle assy anda chipped exhaustport. Otherwise, it isin fairly good shapeconsidering it wasprobably made in theearly 50s and hasbeen raced. Themotor came with anold Class B teamracer which can gowith the motor ifanyone is prepared togo the extra postage.
