Introduction
• A number of Canadian Business Aviation Association
(CBAA) members indicated an interest in aviation-
specific market compensation over the last year.
• The (CBAA) determined this was an important benefit
to members and sponsored the 2017 CBAA Aviation
Compensation Survey which was initiated in June
2017.
• The Wynford Group, compensation consultants, were
selected to conduct the confidential survey on behalf
of the CBAA. We are known for our national Canadian
compensation surveys and have previously conducted
several custom aviation surveys over the past 10
years.

Purpose of Survey
The purpose of this survey was to collect salary and
employer practice data for positions that are common to
the business aviation sector across Canada.
This confidential survey was conducted at no cost to
participants who will receive a copy of the general results
when the project is completed.

The survey includes:
• Cash comparisons of approximately 50 positions in the
following job families:• Management
• Administrative/Sales
• Ramp Attendants
• Maintenance
• Flight Crew
• Safety
• Rotary
• Employer practices such as:• Benefits
• Allowances
• Overtime, etc.

Methodology
• A steering committee of 5 CBAA members provided
direction on the content and format of the survey.
• Major assistance in supporting the survey were
provided by the staff of CBAA in particular, Aimie
O’Connor and Deb Ward.
• 2017 CBAA Aviation Compensation Survey was
open to all CBAA members including over 400
individual members representing over 300
companies and organizations.
• The confidential survey was conducted between
June 1st and July 15th, 2017.
• Official results available by the end of August, 2017.

• This represented 15% of the membership
organizations.

Employer Practices
• The average percentage of the cost of benefits paid by
the employer has risen slightly to just over 11% of base
salary.
• The most common forms of short-term incentive plans
are:
• Individual bonus with 75% of organizations now
providing for management/flight crew.
• Profit-sharing has shown an increase in use at all
levels of the organization.

• A summary of trends including the above will be
published by the CBAA in early September 2017.
• Participants will receive the full results before
the end of August.
• Customized report will also be available for a fee.
