Awards for Dr. Con and Ballymartle Congratulations to Dr. Con Murphy, well-known to all Cork GAA fans as
the long-serving team doctor to our Inter-County teams, who was
recently presented with the Hall of Fame Award at the Annual South Side
Sports Awards sponsored by the Cork International Airport Hotel and
Gerald McCarthy Awards and Gifts. In addition to his long association with
Cork teams, Dr. Con has also been involved with UCC for many years,
and was a selector in 2011, when the UCC Senior Football team won both
the centenary Sigerson Cup and the County Championship. Also
honoured at the awards were Ballymartle, who won the Team of the
Year Award following their County, Munster and All-Ireland winning
campaigns of 2011.

First County Board Meeting of 2012 The first meeting of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí 2012 takes place on Tuesday,
January 31st at 8.30pm in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Clubs should note that
Transfer applications must be received at Páirc Uí Chaoimh before close
of business on Monday, January 30th, as they will be taken as Notice of
Motion at that meeting. Transfer forms can be downloaded from the Cork
GAA website, www.gaacork.ie. The full schedule of County Board
meetings for the year ahead is also available in the Administration
section of www.gaacork.ie

prize of €20,000 in the Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw for December. See

Tom Creedon/Tadhg Crowley Cup Draws The Tadhg Crowley Cup and Tom Creedon Cup will commence on
January 21st, and the draws for both competitions were made on
January 7th in FitzGerald's Book Shop, Macroom, sponsors of the Tom
Creedon Cup. Guests of Honour were Catherine Vaughan, sister of the
late Tom Creedon, and John Coleman of Millstreet, who played for
Cork with Tom Creedon. John paid an eloquent tribute to Tom
Creedon, acknowledging him both as a fine player and a good

Award for Mervyn Gammell Congratulations to Mervyn Gammell (Charleville), winner of the
96FM C103 Rochestown Park Hotel Sports Award for December, in
recognition of his achievements with his club in winning the County and
Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship titles.Mervyn received his
award at a special function in his honour held at Rochestown Park Hotel
on January 16th, attended by his family, friends and officers of the
Charleville GAA Club and Cork County Board.

Munster Council Grants On Thursday, December 16th, Munster Council Development Grants were
presented to 37 Cork Clubs at Páirc Uí Rinn. The presentation was
attended by Munster Council Chairman, Seán Walsh, who stressed the
importance of maintaining attendances at Munster Championship
games, as these gate receipts fund the grants. For more information on

Lifetime Acheivement Award: Michael Ellard Congratulations to retired Irish Examiner journalist, Michael Ellard, who
was recently presented with the Lifetime Acheivement Award at the
Annual Northside & District Sports Awards Banquet.

Cork Footballers on the Ropes! Well done to the Cork Senior Footballers, who raised several thousand
euro for suicide awareness charity, Breaking the Silence, through their
recent Charity Boxing Tournament held in Rochestown Park Hotel. The
capacity attendance, which included Conor Counihan and his
management team, were treated to 16 fights involving members of the
Senior Football panel and some guest fighters. For full report, see
