So the answer was Yes, you’ve got the ring now there’s so much to think about and so much to do but where do you start?

• Do I use a wedding planner or do it ourselves• Where do we start?• Where do I find suppliers, who can I trust?

Planning your special day will be the most exciting but at the same time it’s likely to be the most stressful event you will probably ever organise. But don’t panic, the Truly Scrumptious Wedding Planner will take you through the planning process step by step.

So first things first and this is a biggie, always, always use a professional wedding supplier. Every single one of our Approved Suppliers brings with them a wealth of knowledge and experience and are highly regarded in the wedding industry.

Don’t trust your special day to someone who thinks they can take a good picture or can bake a cake - trust the professionals, they won’t let you down!

And finally the rules . . .

• Set a budget and stick to it – it’s easy to get carried away!

• Tiny steps – do one thing at a time.• Accept help from supportive people –

you don’t need to do it all by yourselves!

Sincere congratulations to you both have a brilliant wedding day!

Marriages are permitted in licensed venues that are approved for ceremonies and in Register Offices. The law does not allow for marriage ceremonies to be held in the open air, in a tent or marquee, a hot air balloon or at a private address. To have your ceremony at a licensed venue you will need to co-ordinate the date and time with your venue AND the Register Office so that a Registrar is available.

Legal notice must be given at least 28 days before the date of your ceremony and can be given up to one year beforehand. If you are booking your wedding 18 months in advance book a date with your venue then contact the Register Office 12 months before the date to book your civil ceremony.

Contact your local Register Office to book an initial appointment and obtain further information on fees.

I want a Religious wedding – where do I start? As a country we are a wonderful melting pot of faiths and cultures and so it is impossible to provide detailed information on everything and this is intended to be a general guide only and will vary dependent on different cultures/faiths.

Find your local place of worship and contact them as early as possible. A change in the law allows you to marry outside your local area but different faiths may and will impose different criteria on what you must do to quality.

You will usually be invited to attend a meeting to discuss your wedding and sometimes your faith and why you wish to have a religious ceremony. If you are not a regular attender at church – be prepared!

At the time of print, it is not legally possible for same sex couples to marry in the Church of England.

Banns are announcements in the Church of England of your intention to marry and a chance for anyone to put forward a reason why the marriage may not lawfully take place. It can be a very special and moving occasion so go along if you can.

If there is insufficient time for Banns to be announced a Common Licence can take their place - your Church of England Vicar can provide further details.

Not all ceremonies conducted in a place of worship are recognised as valid according to the law of Gt Britain and WILL require a Registrar to attend the ceremony or a civil marriage to also be performed.

SUPERSTITIONS AND WEDDING ETIQUETTETruly Scrumptious, The Wedding & Events Company

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in your shoe”

The wedding ring goes on the fourth finger of the left hand because it is the only finger with a vein that connects to the heart.

SuperstitionIt is good luck for a bride to see a chimney

sweep on the way to her wedding. It is bad luck for a groom to see his bride in

her gown before the ceremony.

Before the CeremonyBritish tradition states that the bride stands to the right of her father, they lead the procession followed by the

bridesmaids and pageboys.

The Wedding CeremonyThe bride stands on the left of the groom to allow

his sword arm to be free to fight off other men who may want her as their bride.

Receiving LineThe bride’s parents are traditionally hosts and should be the first to greet guests followed by the bride and

groom and then the groom’s parents.

Top Table SeatingThe bride and groom should always be in the centre of the table with the groom to the right and the bride and grooms parents on either side. The best man and chief

bridesmaid can also be seated on the top table.

SpeechesThe first speech is given by the father of the bride ending with a toast to the bride and groom. The

groom then thanks the bride’s parents and toasts the bridesmaids and lastly it’s the best man’s speech.

FavoursTraditionally five almonds were given to represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health and happiness.

Tossing the BouquetThe bouquet is tossed to single women with the belief

that whoever catches it will be the next to marry.

Cutting the CakeThe bride cuts the cake with the help of her groom to symbolize his added strength to always help and support her. They then feed each other from the first slice to symbolize their commitment to provide for

each other.

First DanceThe happy couple start then the groom should dance with his mother-in-law then his mother while the bride

dances with her father-in-law then her father. Best man and chief bridesmaid join as the happy couple dance

with their in-laws.

PAY I T F O R W A R DTruly Scrumptious, The Wedding & Events Company

Truly Scrumptious Wedding & Events are privileged to be a part of couples very special Wedding Day, work alongside the most professional and friendliest local wedding suppliers within an industry we love and for this we are extremely grateful. We believe it’s important to pay it forward and support two worthy causes at our Wedding Shows.

The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation A national charity who organise weddings for bride or grooms with life-limiting or terminal illnesses. A collection tin is available on the Registration Desk at all our weddings shows and you are invited to contribute, if every single one of our couples donated just £1 we would be able to contribute £1,000 every year to this worthy charity.

You can also help by donating your wedding dress or other outfits and accessories by simply taking them to your local Johnson's the cleaners. Alternatively many couples, instead of providing their guests wedding favours, make a donation to the The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation and every penny donated will go towards helping couples achieve what they already have.

Cherished Gowns for Angel Babies UKEvery year around 17 babies a day or 3500 a year are born sleeping or sadly pass away shortly after birth. These babies can be very small and too often the parents are unable to find something appropriate to dress their baby in. All parents should be given the opportunity to dress their baby and all babies should be laid to rest in a special item of clothing.

The aim of Cherished Gowns is to provide the families of these previous babies with an item of clothing that they are able to wear for their final farewell. Cherished Gowns provide hospitals around the UK with a comfort pack to give to parents that contain a special gown made from a wedding or other formal dress which has been donated.

www.cherishedgowns.org.uk

Would you like to get involved? If you are interested in donating your gown we provide an opportunity at our Wedding Shows for you to don your wedding gown for one final time and be a part of our catwalk show. You will have professional hair and make-up styling and a photograph taken by one of our professional photographers which is yours to keep. If strutting your stuff on the catwalk is not for you, you can of course still donate a gown without being involved in the stage show.
