My work is in the area of User Experience Research, User-Centered Design and Human-Computer Interaction with a focus on family communication over distance, domestic and social computing, video-mediated communication and smart home technologies for families, children, and older adults. Designed and conducted exploratory research (interview and diary study) on the challenges of grandparent-grandchild technology-mediated communication over distance.

Ideated and designed prototypes using an iterative design approach.

Led the development process and worked with a developer to create a fully functional communication application called G2G to address the current communication challenges and expectations raised by grandparents, parents, and children.

Designed and conducted a long term evaluation of the application in the field using a variety of methods (i.e., observation, home visit, diary, interview, usage log analysis) with children, parents, and grandparents.

Chi ldr en’s Mob ile Gaming Behavior s GOOGLE , IN C | June 2015- Sep 2016

Led, designed and conducted a field study with families in San Francisco Bay Area to understand children’s gaming behaviors, parental perspectives and strategies to supervise children’s gaming behaviors.

This study was done in the process of releasing Google Family Link application and to understand the needs and challenges of strategizing parental supervision regarding children electronic device usage.

This study included field visit, interview with children and parents in their homes, design activities and visual diary with children and resulted in a paper (in submission) and a technical report for the production team.

Designed and conducted a mixed-method study (Quantitative and Qualitative) to explore students’ perception of stress and focus in two courses, in relation to a mindfulness meditation sessions using weekly questionnaires. This research sponsored by the Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines (ISTLD).

Designed and conducted preliminary research on the challenges and needs for sharing media during a video call using interview and survey.

Designed a media sharing video application (Media2gether) for personal contacts.

Designed and conducted a lab study to evaluate the use of the prototype using indirect observation, group interviews, and focus group.

Created and presented a report and published a paper.
