10:15 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (cont.) 147 Public Speaking (Age 9 & up) - Let’s face it, with all the elec-tronic communication out there in today’s world, the art of face-to-face interac-tions is becoming obsolete! We hide behind screens, avoid eye contact and mumble our way through life. God did not intend us to communicate through computers! He gave us a mouth to speak clearly, eyes to focus on others and a brain to sort out ideas. In this class we will be focusing on several aspects of public speaking including: the making of a good speaker, using the proper tools for public speak-ing, knowing your audience, and using different types of speeches effectively. Students will be listening to and critiquing famous historical speeches, research-ing and writing their own speeches, and playing interactive games to help their skills in becoming great orators. Students will present at least 2 types of speeches during each semes-ter. Therefore, class time is allotted for them to research topics and to prepare. But please understand they should practice at home in front of a mirror, parents and/or siblings. It is highly recommended that students have access to a laptop, note-book or some other device that has internet capabilities. Also, good old-fashioned index (note) cards, and pens/pencils are required.

123 Elementary Spanish 2 - Students continue learning the ele-ments of Spanish and continue to develop communication skills through a variety of personalized exercises and activities. By the end of this course, students would have completed their textbook, Getting Started With Spanish, and should be able to speak in full sentences.
