Lovely WeatherAt Village CarnivalWell it was in 2014! This year, true to form, the sun forgot to visit EarlsBarton on Carnival Day and the rain fell steadily. Well done therefore toNina and Sam (pictured below) and all the helpers for carrying onregardless and also to all the droves of people who turned out and made itsuch a good day. The Barton spirit certainly shone through.

The village has been alive over the past two weeks with a whole range ofevents taking place as part of the Festival Fortnight. It seems to go fromstrength to strength year on year. I’m sure that the committee is alreadythinking about 2016 and I’m sure, that as ever, they would welcome freshideas and additional support.

Two forthcoming events to pencil in on the calendar are the Earls BartonGiant Yard Sale on 18th July from 10.00 a.m. onwards and the EarlsBarton Village Show on Saturday 12th September. You can find furtherdetails about the Village Show in the centre of this month’s magazine.

Elsewhere in the July edition of Barton Today you can read about theBarton Peakers, who have just successfully completed the Three PeaksChallenge. There is also an article about local Beaver leader MarilynMarks, who received a much deserved award for over thirty years’ serviceto the scouting movement. If you’ve missed him, Dear Eric is back withsome very timely advice about summer holidays.

Lastly, a bit of a plug for the Junior Youth Club. They provide a brilliantservice to our 7 to 11 year olds with a membership of over 100 youngpeople. They are looking for a replacement leader to run the club. This is apaid post, funded by the Parish Council. If you are interested, take a lookat the advert later in the magazine.

Let’s hope that summer finally arrives and stays with us. If you’re goingaway, enjoy your holiday and don’t forget to pack a copy of Barton Todayfor that photo opportunity.

Who will beorganising theCarnival nextyear?”

The Show Must Go On.....And It DidThe sun was shining on the Friday. The sun was shining on the Sunday. But, Sod’s Law, onthe Saturday the rain arrived and refused to go away. However, in true British spirit, the goodpeople of Earls Barton were not going to let a little bit of the wet stuff deter them and thecrowds came out in force to support the Annual Carnival. Despite the weather it was asuccessful day and much fun was had by all.

The t shirts worn on the day by Nina and Sam with the word ‘RETIRED’ emblazoned acrossthe front, made it clear that this really was going to be their last time of organising this greatevent. The dynamic duo have to be thanked for all the hard work and occasional heartachethey have endured over the years. They have done a wonderful job and deserve a peacefuland happy retirement. They will be taking many colourful memories with them.

Nina has penned a few words below about her very last Annual Carnival.“Well, it came, it went....it rained! But In true Barton style, yousupported it brilliantly! Huge thanks to everyone that made the day whatit was. Amy, Lily and Daisy looked beautiful as the Carnival Queen andPrincesses. It was brilliant to get Plonks Peddlers back. Thanks guys foryour hard work in getting the bikes ready. To all the marshals thatmanned the streets. Thank-you! Special thanks must be said to;

Maria for manning the rec, Bill Boorman for being an excellent compere,Kerry at Delikuts for beautiful hair for the Queen and Princesses, thestunning flowers on the Queen’s float from Charlotte Davies, Katy Lloydand family for storing the Queen’s float and AES for pulling the float eachyear.

Despite the weather, the arena events carried on regardless. DexterityDance danced brilliantly, not easy on wet grass! Pacesetters dog displayshowed us what they could do, even with a couple of dogs not likingthe rain! Village Viibz always seem to dance in the rain, so carried onlike true professionals!

The procession winners were as follows;Class 1, Single entrants; 1st Evie Hobbs - Say Yes to the Dress,

2nd Thomas Hayward - Cat in the Hat, 3rd Lody Eales – Maleficent.

Class 2, Couples; 1st Sheldon and Sienna Matthews - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Class 4, Group under 10; 1st Superheroes - Chantelle Wesby, 2nd NC TLC Charity – Mice.

Class 5, Group over 10; 1st Pied Piper Preschool - Lego Men, 2nd Saxon Preschool- Firefighters, 3rd 2nd EB Brownies – Mermaids.

Class 6, Vehicles; 1st EB Youth Club - Matilda

Well done to all who entered. You make the procession what it is.Brilliant effort every time!

As many of you are aware both myself and Sam are retiring from runningthe Carnival. I have been on the committee for approximately 12 yearsand with just us two of us running and organising, it's hard work! Weare both sad to go but feel we have done our bit and would like to justcome and watch it like everyone else! If anyone would like to join thecommittee or feel they could help please contact me. I will obviouslyhelp with any new committee members and show you the ropes. It isan extremely rewarding job so please don't let this village tradition end.We are all busy but with a few new helpers things would be good.

Once again, thank you for all the support that the village has given tothe Carnival. It really wouldn't happen without your support, whateverthe weather!”

On Holiday with NCTLCNCTLC Trust the children’s cancer charity based in Earls Barton report on their activities duringMay.

One of the principal benefits NCTLC provide for the families they support is the opportunityfor a respite break at the charity’s caravan in Crowhurst, East Sussex. Close to the town ofBattle the caravan is located on a site with facilities for the whole family and there are manyinteresting places to visit in the area.

Throughout the summer many families who have a child affected by cancer will be providedwith a holiday free of charge. Over the recent bank holiday week the caravan was used by theMarston family. Billie her husband Nick and the children Alicia, Dylan and Violet had agreat time and wrote to thank the charity, ‘we were extremely grateful for the holidaywhich gave us time together as a family. Violet has been recovering well this year andthis has certainly helped us all after a difficult few months’

The charity is very fortunate to have a number of fund raisers who regularly help toprovide the finances that enable NCTLC to work with the families who need theirsupport. The Birch family have supported the Trust for the past 7 years. Geraldine worksas family Liaison Officer for NCTLC and each year her family organise a golf event inmemory of son Corporal Marc Birch who was tragically killed on active service inAfghanistan.

This year the event was held at Kingsthorpe Golf Club with over 170 golfers taking part.As a result the NCTLC will receive a donation of over £1500, along with two othercharities, from the £4500 raised on the day. This will be a great help with their activitiesthis year. Geraldine was delighted with the support the family received. ‘ we wereblessed with an awesome tribute to Marc with several fly pasts by an American WorldWar 2 Dakota aeroplane; also for the first time in our history our 1st Lady Golfer, mydaughter, Laura who’s ambition has been to learn how to play so that she could pay herown tribute to her brother’. The charity are extremely grateful to the Birch family and allthe golfers who took part.

NCTLC continue their busy yearbringing in new people to take theiractivities forward with the intentionof providing more support to thefamilies dealing with cancer in theNorthamptonshire area. They areimplementing advice received fromthe Charities Commission that willenable the charity to take itsactivities to a new level in the future.

Currently NCTLC are looking for avolunteer to tend to their Children’sGarden (Allotment) in the village.

If you would like to find out moreabout any of the events or theopportunities to volunteer please callthe office on 01064 811026 or [email protected].

Zaytoun has just celebrated 10 years of Fair Trade withPalestinian Farmers! Zaytoun is a UK Community InterestCompany selling fairly traded produce, most of which isharvested and prepared by hand.

We’ve been stocking Zaytoun products for a while now andthey are 1 of our favourite producers as their products are sodelicious…you may have already tried their award-winningolive oil which is now available in 2 sizes and great for dippingwith bread and adding some ‘Za’atar’ a tasty mix of herbs &toasted sesame.

Zaytoun have been adding other products to their range whichare selling fast and the newest is ‘smoky freekeh’, a younggreen wheat which has been toasted and cracked, and it canbe added to soups or better still cooked into deliciousrecipes.

So at our next coffee morning on July 11th so we thought we’dcelebrate Zaytoun’s 10th birthday by having a few Zaytounproducts made into delicious recipes for you to try, and plentyof recipe cards and ideas to inspire you and take away. We willof course still cater for those with a sweet tooth by providingdelicious homemade cakes. Hope you can join us!

Warm Freekeh, Fig, Feta &Caramelised Onion Salad• 2 red onions, finely sliced

• 2 tbsp sunflower oil

• 250g/ 9 oz cleaned, whole grain green wheat freekeh,

• 100g/3 1/2 oz dried figs, chopped

• 100g feta cheese, crumbled

• Pinch of allspice

• 2 tbsp olive oil

• 2 tbsp verjus

• Coriander, parsley or mint, to garnish

1. Place a heavy-based frying pan on medium heat, add oiland fry onions till golden brown. Transfer to a plate lined withpaper towel and set aside.

2. Meanwhile, add the freekeh to a pot, cover with plenty ofwater (about 600 ml/2fl oz/ 2 1/2 cups water seasoned withsalt), cover and bring to a boil. Once it reaches a boil, reduceheat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes, until the freekehis cooked to your liking. If the freekeh is too wet, drain excesswater and season with allspice and more salt if required. Mixin olive oil and verjus and mix well. Adjust seasonings to taste.Freekeh will drink a lot of olive oil; the more the creamier.

3. Once the freekeh is cooked, assemble on small individualdishes with the freekeh as a base and top with figs, caramelized onions, feta cheese and garnish withherb of choice. Serve as part of canapes or if you’dlike to serve it in a big bowl as a side, then mix theingredients together excluding the feta (itdisintegrates easily). Once thesalad is mixed, top with the feta andgarnish with herb ofchoice.

Barton Today July 2015

So for all the dire weather forecasts for the weekend of 30th and 31st May, it wasn't too horrendous for the 5th Festival of Transport,at Whites Nurseries. Saturday was lovely and we had our best attendance for exhibits and public, of a Saturday. The field lookedgreat, and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves.

Sunday? Well we had a damp morning and one sharp shower early afternoon and though numbers were well down, we had hardysouls who turned out and so it was better than we had expected. The traders stayed open and although we were unable to hold all thering parades due to the damp ground, we had a good number go in for the Grand Cavalcade at 3.30.

Overall we had a lot of positive comments and people saying' we'll be back next year' which is one of the best forms of thank you'sfor all the hard work put in by the committee and helpers throughout the year, as well as at the event.

Another highlight was Mick being the 'treasure' in Radio Northampton's Saturday morning Treasure Hunt show, with Helen Blabygetting it with seconds to spare - well done those who helped solve the clues!

The 4th Fire and Rescue Show was also a success, with a large array of fire appliances. The demonstrations they put on were wellattended too. The Earls Barton and county appliances were also called out, to attend real incidents which thankfully were sortedquickly.

So we now have the debrief and accounts to do, and look to next year. A big thankyou to all who supported us; our sponsorsAutohome and Diamond Coaches, exhibitors, traders, advertisers and of course the public, without all of whom the show couldn'thappen. So watch this space for more news.

The Women’s InstituteCentenary Year 2015Jenny Flower writes…It's great to knowthat, a hundred years after the W.I. reachedthe U.K. from Canada in 1915, that it is stillgoing strong. At the beginning the mainfocus of the W.I. was to encourage countrywomen to get involved in growing and preserving food for a nation at war. This was important during the Second World War also. But around this coreaim has developed a movement which encourages women to involvethemselves in many far-reaching and diverse activities. The earliest writtenrecords of a W.I. in Earls Barton are from 1922, but it is believed that therewas a group here as early as 1917.

In 1922 all the ladies were referred to as Mrs. This or Miss That, no Christiannames, and the records report on a feisty group of women very activelyinvolved in the life of the village, with sub-committees organising a range ofdifferent events. We are fortunate in Earls Barton to have two W.I. groups, both of which are flourishing. Earls Barton W.I. is a group which meets in theafternoon, and Earls Barton Millennium W.I. meets in the evening. EarlsBarton W.I. has had a busy time this year.

As well as our monthly meetings which usually involve an interesting speakerand then time to socialise with friends over a cup of tea, we have had outingsto Wicksteed Park (at Christmas), to The Castle to see "South Pacific", a boattrip on the canal at Stoke Bruerne and a visit to Cottesbrooke Hall. We arealso planning a visit to Wellingborough Museum later this year, and thenagain to Wicksteed Park as we had such a good time last year. We also haveregular "Lunches Out" at local eating venues.

We have taken part in the County Skittles Tournament for a number of yearsnow, and the group of a dozen or so very enthusiastic players practiseregularly at the Working Men's Club. This year, for the first time, WE WON!!Earls Barton W.I. are now the Northamptonshire County Women's Institutechampions. The final was held at the Working Men's Club where a pleasingnumber of supporters came to see our ladies beat Hunsbury Hill decisively 43-27. Sue Kendall, the County Chairman, was there to present each of the fiveplayers with a plaque. The cup will be presented at the County AnnualGeneral Meeting in October. Congratulations go to the players, Jean Miller,Helen Murfitt, Jill Sewell and Pat Watts who were very ably led by captainPam McDonald whose enthusiasm and hard work have been an inspiration tothe group. Thanks also go to David Brawn at the Working Men's Club for hishelp and advice.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 8th July at 1.30pm at All Saints ParishChurch Hall. Our speaker - Peter Gout will be giving a talk entitled "River Nene - A Journey in Pictures and Words". Visitors most welcome. For further information contact the Secretary JennyFlower on 01604 810316.

Jonathan writes...The excitement of a visit to the seaside has always remainedwith me over the years, and now that summer has arrived, ourfamily will be heading off for a bit of sea air. Nothing unusual inthat you may think, but I can remember my grandmother tellingme that a trip to the seaside was considered a real luxury whenshe was little and she very rarely left the village, let alone thecounty.

Now, of course, many of us will be taking our holiday trips withinthis country, and many will be cruising or flying off to places allover the world. Going away brings its usual headaches - makingsure we have packed everything that we are likely to need, checking that passports are up to date, bookingaccommodation, servicing the car, booking taxis, changingmoney if going abroad, and all those other things that have tobe done.

We are very fortunate if we remember everything, and there isoften something that we leave behind.

Hopefully the memories we bring back far outweigh the hassleof preparing for the getaway.

What will we bring back from our holidays? Let me make somesuggestions:-

1. Lovely memories of places visited, places that mean so muchto us and that you love to revisit. Discovering new gems ofbeauty, and finding sea creatures that really excite the children and grandchildren.

2. Enjoying valuable time with family and friends, walking along the sea shore, building models in the sand, sharing picnics in the sea air, and playing all those beach games of cricket, beach volleyball, soccer and bowls.

3. For a good many people they will look back with gratitude to people who have loved and cared for them in B&Bs, guest houses and hotels. Folk who have gone the extra mile in making sure that every need has been taken care of.

4. Thankfulness for refreshment in body, mind and spirit, and appreciation of places of special interest.

Whether we are able to get away or not, may the fact that welive in a lovely community surrounded by fine countryside be ablessing to us all. Being thankful, home or away, brings its ownblessing, peace of mind being one of them.

Jesus spent much of His ministry in the countryside and by theseaside with his disciples, and the crowds that followed knewthe value of being in the fresh air, listening to the Lord of life, who taught much wisdom through the beauty of nature.

If you have visited the delightful little village of Clovelly on theNorth Devon coast, you may well have seen a copy of theClovelly Fishermen’s prayer, and I share it with you now:-

Almighty and all merciful Father, who rulest heaven and earth and sea and all deep places;

At whose word the storm wind ariseth, and again at Thy word the great calm;

Receive into Thy protection Thy servants the fishermen, in their honest calling;

That through calm or storm they may come in with safety;

For the sake of Him who rules the waves, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

God Bless and be with you all, Jonathan

Barton Today July 2015

July 2015 Services at All Saints

There is a 9.30am Holy Communion serviceevery Wednesday in the Lady Chapel

Miranda Hayes writes…Summer is here, or at least I hope it will be by thetime you read this! As I sit at my desk well into the month, flaming Junehas so far been something of a damp, cold squib, but who knows what therest of the month will be like.

Whatever the summer brings, though, I hope that everyone has a chanceto enjoy a change of pace, and find time for reading the Bible, for prayerand reflection. The weeks after Trinity Sunday can be understood as anopportunity to deepen the roots of our faith so that we may flourish andbear the fruits of the Spirit; the green of the altar frontal etc. can representthis growing time. So do take time to reflect on your journey of faith overthe coming weeks, and perhaps begin by asking yourself three questions:

1. Does prayer undergird all that you are, and all that you do?

2. Are you nourished by God’s Word?

3. Do you feel empowered by his Spirit?

As we think of journeys of faith and where they may lead, I’m delighted tosay that we will be privileged to share in a crucial stage of one particulardisciple’s journey, when Rev Greg Shaw joins us at the end of the summer. On 6th September, Bishop John Flack will be with us at our 9.30am ParishCommunion service, when he will licence Greg as Curate here at AllSaints. Greg has already undertaken the major part of his training in theYardley Hastings Benefice, and is likely to be here for a year in order tocomplete this.

Greg is a Self-Supporting Minister, and works full-time in secularemployment; he and his family will not be living in the village, but in theirown home in Northampton. Whilst this inevitably means that the time heis able to offer here will be limited, there will be much for us to learn fromhim and he from us - and I’m confident, that by God’s grace, it will bewonderfully fruitful for us all!

In the meantime, may you have a wonderfully enlivening and restorativesummer.

Lyn White writes…I was reminded recently that rabbits were oncefarmed in the U.K., with warrens covering vast tracts of land andgenerally fenced or walled in for the protection of crops. No doubtthey are still farmed, but on a much smaller scale and in a controlledenvironment. In 1859, rabbits were introduced here by an unwaryVictorian landowner. Shooters and trappers couldn’t cope and by1890 they were seen not only throughout the eastern states, but allthe way to W.A., moving at 80 miles a year and estimated to be 10billion by 1920. For the protection of pastoral lands in W.A. the firstrabbit-proof fence was erected along the entire western length ofthe continent between 1901-7, measuring 1,138 miles, although itseems some made their waythrough during construction. Twomore fences were added, onemeasuring 724 miles and extendingfrom the first fence to the southerncoast, and a third from there to thewest coast, a distance of 160 miles.Myxomatosis was introduced in1950 but proved unsuccessful inarid areas due to the absence ofmosquitoes and fleas, which carrythe virus. With genetic immunity, today only 40% of the rabbitpopulation is susceptible to this andCalicivirus, introduced later.Previously they were trapped in thewild, and some of my earliestmemories include that of mymother serving behind the counterof the ‘York Rabbit Supply’ in centralPerth. ‘Rabbit-ohs’, carrying racksof carcasses were a familiar sightaround the city during the GreatDepression. These days the sale ofharvested wild stock is illegal, withrabbits farmed under strictconditions and a niche market.Unrestricted in rural areas though, they are again a huge problem, withour unique environment alreadyconstantly under pressure from thegluttonous demands of industry andtraffic.

In the 1870s a method for the production of felt made from rabbitpelts led to the iconic Australian hat industry, ‘Akubra’, Aboriginal for‘head covering’, with many of the WWI and WWII slouch hats wornby the Anzacs also made of rabbit fur. When annual production roseto 200,000 and trapping and shooting became less common, peltswere scarce and a European market was sought. At present Akubraremains an Australian industry, with the by-product from Australianfarmed rabbits providing 50% of the material. Together with the‘Driza-Bone’ oilskin coat, originally made from linseed oil on cottonand designed for wearing on sailing ships, but now in a non-flammable formula, it represents the iconic image of rural Australiadepicted in the film ‘The Man from Snowy River’.

Here, the Burrowing Bettong, or Boodie Rat (centre), common untilthe mid-20th century, was the only native mammal that actuallyburrowed. Also similar is the bandicoot, represented by twelvespecies, two of which are extinct and the rest endangered, eachadapted to quite different terrains from north to south of thecontinent. This includes the Rabbit-eared Bandicoot, known alsoas a Bilby or Dalgyte. In the lower south-west the species isrepresented by the Southern Brown Bandicoot, or Quenda (top),which now exists only in natural bush in which foxes have beeneliminated, such as monitored or fenced nature reserves, and wherethey do not have to compete with rabbits. As with all native species, both fauna and flora, loss of habitat lessens opportunities for escapefrom predators and the diversification of their species - habitat whichalso includes ‘green corridors’ in the form of vegetated road verges, now often sacrificed in favour of wider roads. Sadly, it seemsprogress is so important that we no longer consider our naturalenvironment important.

Where Are All The Workers?Noble Express thought that our readers might be interested in thearticle below and the difficulties they have encountered in tryingto fill current vacancies.

Noble Express www.nobleexpress.co.uk is a national businessbased in Earls Barton and employs 12 people. We are continuingto grow and have been looking to recruit 3 extra staff, one in eachof our: warehouse, sales department and finance office.

We have advertised on government websites, and also throughprofessional organisations that represent the government’sapprenticeship scheme. We have also made the WellingboroughJob centre aware.

In addition we wrote to 9 local schools on May 19th. We targetedthe person at the school who we believe is responsible for careersand if this was not shown on their website we called them to findout who the letter should be addressed to. Surprisingly, out ofthese 9 contacts, only one of them, Mr Bernie Myers at WollastonSchool has made contact with us. It surprises us that these jobsare available and yet there seems so little interest from the careersteachers at local schools.

We have now been successful in recruiting an apprentice for thewarehouse but to date are drawing a blank on the roles in our salesoffice and our finance department. We are now offering full trainingto anyone with 5 GCSE’s at grade c and above, plus day release atcollege. We will also interview people who are expecting to getthe above qualifications this summer. The training salary fromNoble Express for these official apprenticeships is now £8,300 perannum.

NB Noble Express are pleased to report that since sending in thisarticle, the vacancies have been filled by young people fromWollaston School.

In summer 2005 Earls barton welcomed it's newest salon to the village. A salon whereall ages and all styles were welcome. After 5 years as a mobile hairdresser, I wanted asalon to call my own. So OPUS was created.

This year we are celebrating 10 years in business with special offers for existing andnew customers. You may have noticed if you’ve been into the shop or driven past thatwe have also undergone an image make over and introduced a new range ofproducts and colours to the salon.

We now offer Schwarzkopf products and colours and are currently undertakingcourses with each stylist travelling to London to visit the Schwarzkopf Academy, wherewe are learning new cutting and colouring techniques.

This is something we pride ourselves in at OPUS. We feel it is important to challengeourselves and bring fresh ideas to our customers. We may not be the cheapest ofhairdresser but we are certainly not the most expensive either. Even though we are based in a village, we try to offer a town/cityexperience, with colours we trust in, products that are reliable and one to one consultations using iPads and the latest technology. You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram and you can also use our free in-salon WIFI while your having treatments.

We thank all our customers old and existing for all their support & custom over the last 10 years. Here's to the next 10!! Teresa & the girls.

News & Views from the Baptist ChurchBrian Emerson writes...

18

It has been good to read in Barton Today from the different churchesabout the importance of prayer. All the churches meet for prayer attimes outside their normal Sunday services. I am writing this at thebeginning of June and I know that the ministers of the churches metyesterday to discuss the activities of Churches Together in EarlsBarton and District, to share about our different churches and to praytogether. Are you one of those people who think that prayer is a lastresort, something Miranda asked in this magazine last month?

Some people think the same of the church – it is something that youturn to as a last resort. At the Baptist Church, as Lesley or I take theservices during the last six months of 2015 we shall be thinkingabout “What does church mean to you ?” I shall try to sharesomething of my thoughts through the pages of Barton Today.

For many people church means a building. At the Baptist Church, asLesley and I talk to the infant and junior school pupils who come tous as part of the citizenship curriculum, we try to explain that churchis not a building but the people. Those people meet not just onSundays, but also during the week and try to let the light of JesusChrist shine through their lives every day in their work, and in thelocal community where they live.

When I became a Christian forty-five years ago, down inSouthampton where I was at university, the minister of the largechurch (large because of the number of people not because of thesize of the building!) I went to regularly used to say that peoplecoming in from Eastleigh, six miles away, ought to be staying inEastleigh and being part of the church there, whatever thedenomination. That has stayed with me through the years.

I am saddened by the number of people who leave Earls Barton togo and worship and be part of a church in Northampton orWellingborough or Wollaston. One of the effects is that the smallerchurches, often in the villages, need to rely on help from the biggerchurches in the towns whereas they should be able to rely on peoplein the villages themselves. That is certainly the case in the Baptistdenomination. Other denominations get round the problem byjoining their churches together – Paula York who was curate in EarlsBarton has charge of five churches in her first “incumbency”! NigelBibbings has charge of four Methodist churches. Yet people in thevillages who are not part of their local churches always seemsurprised when those church buildings close or when they realisethat it is only Miranda who is full-time in and for Earls Bartonalthough even she has other responsibilities now as Rural Dean.

People I talk to will tell me that they are Baptists but they don’t comenear the Baptist church here in Earls Barton! The same applies to allthe other denominations in the village! Am I a Baptist or a BaptistChristian? The differences between the protestant or non-conformistdenominations are, in the main, matters of church organisationrather than theology or doctrine. That’s why the organisationChurches Together in Earls Barton and District is so important.Surprising that people work together in that but cannot worktogether in their own village church in their denomination!

Jesus prayed for unity in His church. He said “I have other sheepthat are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too willlisten to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.”Of all believers he prayed to his Father “that they may be one as weare one, I in them and you in me so that they may be brought tocomplete unity”. That can only happen as we overcome ourdifferences; that takes hard work and a measure of grace andforgiveness – all the characteristics of a Christian, whatever his orher denomination. All the characteristics the church should beshowing!!

War MemoriesIn last month’s magazine, we featured the first part of Roy Collins’ war time memories. We continue the storythis month as Roy is relocated from Devon back to his home in London.

Part 2 – Back HomeMy sister, Eileen, was good-looking and well-built and a star among the evacuees. Indeed a star at schooltoo. She was athletic and won all of her races on sports day. The interesting fact was that at an early age, myfather paid for her to attend The Italia Conti Academy, the oldest drama school in London, established in 1901.She became an acrobat and tap-dancer and was the “apple of my father’s eye” I will have to devote a wholechapter to Eileen’s life and career. At the hostel, she organized the children into performing a pantomime –“Snow White” in fact. She was only fourteen. She was Snow White of course. I was one of the dwarfs! Ididn’t see much of Wally – in fact, only when my parents came to visit us.

He only stayed in Seaton two years, whereas I stayed three. His foster parents took in two more evacuees after he left. The followingyear, he came to pay them a visit. However, his arrival was delayed by one day. On the day that he should have arrived, a single bombwas dropped on Seaton (German bombers would unload any spare bombs on coastal towns) and it landed exactly on the house that heshould have visited killing all the occupants. So one could say that he lived on borrowed time ever since that day.

On a summer’s evening the following year, we were sitting in the hostel dining room in our pyjamas having cocoa before we went tobed. Suddenly there was the droning of bombers and the whistle of a bomb. We dived under the tables and the bomb landed on thehouse opposite and debris came crashing through the windows. The house opposite was completely destroyed. I remember beingcarried outside by rescuers in my pyjamas covered in dust and shivering with shock. So you can say that I have also lived on borrowedtime ever since! I moved back to London, of course, where my parents had moved to a house in Crampton Street in Elephant andCastle, Clyde Buildings having been destroyed. The area around the Elephant had been badly bombed. So there we were a family again.Father kept chickens in the back garden (such as it was). A bit smelly but a welcome supply of fresh eggs. I didn’t know that chickenscould be characters but in fact some of these were. They all had names and one I remember was called “Trousers Pecker”, so namedbecause when my father went into the garden she would peck at his trousers, probably because he had spilled some seed in his turn-ups at some point. Soon after I came back, I was walking with my sister and passed under a railway bridge. Suddenly, there was a loudnoise overhead as a train crossed. “Jerries” I yelled, grabbing Eileen’s hand and dragging her into a shop. The effect of the bombing inSeaton was still with me. Bombing of London was still continuing and every night mum would take me to sleep in the LondonUnderground. I can take you and show you to this day the spot on the Bakerloo Line where we used to sleep! During the war, theUnderground was a refuge for thousands of Londoners. Father was somewhat claustrophobic and refused to go below ground. In anycase, he was in the Home Guard (Dad’s Army!) being employed in a reserved occupation (munitions toolmaker).

It was a good excuse to go and have a booze-up with the boys! I went to school and would pick my way through the rubble of bombsites with Wally. Bombed buildings were a good playground for children but dangerous as parts were liable to collapse. At school, wewere given supplements of cod liver oil, malt and concentrated orange juice. Free milk morning and afternoon was available until wellafter the war.

A word on food rationing. Nearly everything was rationed including clothing and furniture but especially food. Small portions of meat, sugar, butter etc. were carefully weighed and wrapped – in paper of course – there were no plastic bags! Eggs were rare – we mostlyate powdered eggs – a rather unpleasant concoction that was reconstituted with water. Your ration book was marked accordingly. Childrenhad green ration books which gave them privileges over some food stuffs. Inevitably, a black market was created. I remember my firstorange for four years in 1944, obtained with my green ration book. I actually thought that bananas were those yellow plaster of Paristhings that used to hang outside greengrocers. I never thought that there were actually fruit that could be eaten! All imported fruit hadto make way for the importation of essential materials for the war effort. At the age of eight, I experienced my first visit to the hop fields(although I was probably taken as a baby). Hop-picking (‘opping!) deserves a special chapter.

THEATRE ARTSHello and welcome to July’s THEATRE ARTSPAGE in Barton Today. This month we’re goingto focus on YAF. The Castle Youth Arts FestivalCelebrates the very best talent within our CastleYouth Theatre and Musical Theatre groups.Members have been working hard over the pasttwo terms to create a number of pieces that willbe performed within this year’s festival. We canall relate to characters in stories, films andshows…this year we visit a boy who is lostwithout his brother, a community who cametogether because of the weather and a group of young peopleauditioning for a theatre school… Whichever character you chooseto follow, we know one thing for sure... it will move you, exciteyou and even make you laugh! Come along and see the latestyoung talent at The Castle this summer! Here is some moreinformation about each show.

THE HEIGHTS - Mon 6 July - Directed by: Kitty Benford and Sam GoodingImagination is what makes a good story is it not? Or is it the truth of astory that everyone finds interesting? Here we have a girl called Lilliewhose life consists of being stuck in her room watching over the kidsbelow. With so much time on her hands she creates stories to maketime go by using inspiration from what she sees, although the questionis, are these accounts real or make believe?

Join The Castle Youth Theatre Middles as they present Lisa McGee’sThe Heights.

IT SNOWS - Tue 7 July - Directed by: Gary L JohnsonSame old story. Boy doesn’t meet girl. Girl doesn’t meet boy. The boyis threatened by a terrifying lads gang and the girl is threatened by anawe-inspiring girls gang.

Mums and dads have declared war against each other. A strangeneighbour is watching in the building opposite. A very ordinary andgloomy estate, until one day it snows and everything changes. Watchas we discover the difference snow has on the community and how itcan bring the most unlikely people together. Join The Castle YouthTheatre Middles as they present It Snows by Bryony Lavery, StevenHoggett and Scott Graham.

FUGEE: Wed 8 - Thu 9 July - Directed by: Kitty Benford His name is Kojo and this is his story. Follow the life of a boy whoseworld has been turned upside down with violence and death. Living inthe UK as a refugee, he explains the story of how he arrived in thecountry. Along the way, he meets friends who help guide him downthe right path, learning from one another and trying to beat the systemto stay in the country. Can Kojo prove who he says he is? Or will he bejust another boy who is left to fend for himself.

Join The Castle Youth Theatre Seniors as they present Abi Morgan’sFugee.

BURYING YOUR BROTHER IN THE PAVEMENT - Fri 10 - Sat 11 JulyDirected by: Gary L Johnson

Tom’s brother is dead which upsets a lot people … but it hasn’t upsetTom. Or, rather, it has, but in ways he can’t explain. People keep tryingto help, but Tom just wants to bury his brother in the pavement. Yousee, Tom and his brother, Luke, were never friends, they never reallygot along at all. Tom really didn’t like Luke, but without him…he waslost.

Join The Castle Youth Theatre Seniors as they present Jack Thorne’sBurying your Brother in the Pavement. A play that makes you thinkabout who to trust, even if they’re dead.

FAME JR! - Tue 14 July, 7.30pm - Directed by Kim MallowsFrom the hit motion pictures, television series, and international stagesuccess, FAME is nothing short of a global phenomenon. Set duringthe last years of New York City’s celebrated High School for thePerforming Arts on 46th Street, FAME JR. is the bittersweet butultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they committo four years of gruelling artistic and academic work. With candor, humour and insight, the show explores the issues that confront manyyoung people today

I do hope that you will have the chance to come and see some of ouryoung people’s talent throughout the festival and see some new plays/ stories come to life before your eyes. For more information pleasevisit The Castle website – www.thecastle.org.uk

Too Much ExposureDear Barton Today,Just a quick missive to say that a colleague of mine has beenborrowing my copy of Barton Today and says how much heenjoys it and it beats his local "rag" in Grantham. Heespecially likes "Dear Eric". Myself, I would just make onechange. Drop the monthly pictures of "Tricky Dickie". Thiscould quite easily be replaced. Barton Today could pick upwhere the Sun left off and have page three of our localbeauties.Best regards,HookyJohn HookGlad to hear that Barton Today reaches out to the depths ofLincolnshire. Not so sure about the page 3 suggestion unlessyou are volunteering to be featured yourself!.

Dear Eric,

How long should I keep my bunting up?

Yours sincerely,

Nick

Dear Nick,

There is no simple answer to this, as the length of time will varyfrom person to person according to their circumstances. Somepeople like to take it down fairly quickly.

I have heard of a neighbour however, who left his bunting upfor over a month. He told me that he would have kept it uplonger if his wife had not started to complain. Apparently, notonly was it beginning to sag rather forlornly in the middle, it wasalso fluttering around whenever there was any wind.

I suggest that you discuss this with your partner and come toa solution that satisfies you both.

Yours sincerely,

Eric

If you have any concerns or issues that you want answering, why not write to Barton Today’s veryown agony uncle. He works under the pseudonym Eric, to maintain his professional anonymity. Ericis steeped in wisdom and worldly knowledge and is very keen to provide advice and guidance to thepeople of Earls Barton to help them make those difficult decisions. Whatever your problem, don’t thinktwice about contacting Eric on [email protected]. He looks forward to hearing from you.

Dear Eric,

I have booked a much needed holiday to Magaluf as I needa bit of peace and relaxation. Although I don’t go until July15th, I have already started to pack my suitcase. I havebought a nice new pair of sandals as well as some thickwhite ankle socks to go with them. Do you think I shouldwear speedos or boxers when I am on the beach as I sawa really good 2 for 1 offer for speedos in a well-known highstreet store recently.

Thank you for your advice,

Stanley

Dear Stanley,

When I go away to Mallia with my Hilda, I always take speedoswith me. I have to say that I have kept myself in pretty goodshape and a few eyes still turn when I walk past the ladies. There is something about fluorescent yellow that seems toattract attention, especially when I join in the foam parties. Youdon’t tell me anything about yourself, so it is difficult to answeryour question. Boxers are probably best if the circumference ofyour waist is equal to your height but if you feel comfortable inyour speedos and you want to show yourself off, go for it.

Regards,

Eric

Dear Eric...Dear Eric...

Dear Eric,

I am looking forward to my annual holiday. I love the sunand am wondering whether I should go topless.

Name withheld

You provide me with very little information about yourself whichmakes it difficult to give you a reply. If you are male, take a goodlook at yourself in the mirror and be honest, do you like whatyou see? If you don’t, either get down the gym or keep your Tshirt on. If you are female beware. If you are going to Clactonor Cleethorpes I would advise against it as you may well bumpinto a fellow villager and you can also get problems with goosepimples. If you are going to the Costa Del Sol, whip your topoff like everyone else and join in the fun.

Enjoy your holiday,

Eric

Dear Eric,

I have just bought one of the new Redrow homes on theBarley Fields development at the bottom of Station Road.I am moving here with my husband and three children. Weare all a bit anxious about the move and want things to goas smoothly as possible. Do you have any suggestionsabout what we can do to make sure we settle in well toour new home?

Yours,

Avril

Dear Avril,

From my own personal experience, I can tell you that you havenothing to worry about. I have only been living here for 29 yearsand only last week my next door neighbour spoke to me for thefirst time to find out what colour bins it was the next day. Itdoes take a bit of time and effort, but you won’t regret themove. When you go to the pub, it helps to call out, ‘The drinksare on me.’ By the way, it’s probably a good idea not to mentionthat you are from Bozeat and you may find it difficult tounderstand some of the locals. Just nod your head and smile.

I look forward to meeting you,

Eric

As you may remember from the last issue, we were justabout to hold a sponsored zumbathon to raise moneyfor Nepal. Well I can now report that we had a fantasticresponse from parents and children to this event. Thechildren and staff were very enthusiastic on the day andreally gave it their all, as you can see from the photo. Wemanaged to raise a fantastic £1796.20 which we are donating to aproject called Emmanuel 2000. The pastors of the EmmanuelChurch in Kathmandu will ensure that the money goes directly tohelping those that they are closely associated with through theirwork with a local school and children’s home. As a result of ourmaking contact with this project we are now able to look forwardto a visit from one of the pastors from the church in July. He willbe explaining to our children what life is like for those inKathmandu after the earthquake and will be able to tell them howthe money we raised has helped.

From one exciting event to another, our June Rose Day! This washeld on Saturday 6 June and the weather was kinder to us thisyear than last, meaning we could hold the event on the schoolfield. Our King, Queen and their attendants looked spectacular asthey processed royally on to the field to take their places in frontof the awaiting crowd of children and parents. Our VIPs for themorning, Oliver and Lauren from Barker Shoes, dutifully performedour crowning ceremony. This was followed by all children, dressedin their red white and blue in commemoration of VE day, paradingto Glen Miller music for the approval of our ‘Royals’. King Adamand Queen Millie then declared the fete open. Stalls and gamesproved very popular during the morning, none more so than theopportunity to throw wet sponges at the headteacher! As is ourtradition on June Rose Day there was a display of country dancingduring the morning butalso, new for this year, our year 2 childrenperformed a line dance to‘These Boots Are MadeFor Walking’.

King Adam and hisQueen, Millie, are nowwaiting in anticipation toplay their part in thevillage carnival parade. They will relax and enjoytheir ride in the lovelyvintage car we areproviding for the eventwhilst the rest of theschool, dressed oncemore in their red, whiteand blue will processbehind them. Hopefully itwill stay dry on the day!

Deacon's DiaryThe Summer holidays are nearly upon us. Hooray!

It is the time to forget about the demands of work, turn the mobileoff and get away from household chores, whilst college, schooland homework can become distant memories. A family can getaway together, spend quality time with each other and do thethings that they enjoy most without any intrusion. How good isthat? It is a special time of the year, one of the best for most, regardless if you have the good fortune to jet off to guaranteedSummer sun or choose to play the lottery of the English weather.

It may not necessarily be all about sun, sea and sangria to adapt afamiliar expression!

There may be time to take a stroll and find a quiet spot in abeautiful place. It is there that we can genuinely pause from thebusyness of our everyday lives and begin to come to terms withour true selves.

What is our life about? Are all our activities directed toward ourown self enjoyment and achievement? Are others less fortunateever on our radar? What, if anything, do we actually do for otherpeople? Yes, love begins at home but does it ever get beyond thefront door?

The good news is that for many it really does. It may not makegreat copy for the sensationalist press but there are a great numberof people not only in our own village but in our country who everyday also focus on the needs of others rather than just onthemselves. The voluntary sector is huge but there is always roomfor more. These good people do not look for praise or reward butderive great fulfilment from their service of others. The simplereason for that is that it is exactly what we are made for. Wehuman beings are at our best and most content when we aregiving and at our worst when we become greedy, selfish andpersistently self-indulgent.

It is the very measure upon which the value of our lives will bejudged.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and yougave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; nakedand you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and youcame to see me.” ( Matthew 25: 35-37)

So do have a great Summer holiday. Come back refreshed and re-invigorated for all that lies ahead. Above all, come back havinggiven a little time to quietly assess your own sense of directioneither personally or as a couple so that you return re-directed notonly to immediate personal needs but also to the care of those lessfortunate. We have no right to call ourselves Christians unless wedo.

Happy holidays!

nthPupdateBrogan here. Hello everyone, I said I was going to tell you a bitmore about when I was with the boarder Penny. She was as

bad at going shopping as Mum is! One day, she wanted us togo into a "changing room", I was a bit worried, as I am happybeing me! But when we went in, she was just wanting to tryclothes on (women!!!) I tried to go under the curtain to catchsome interesting looking paper, and she said she would haveme stuffed and mounted in a big glass case if I let everyone seeher modesty! We did lot's of shopping (groan), but we did goon some great free runs too.

Lucy, my supervisor came to see me again, and I have fallenout with her now. I have to have less food - can you believe it!She thinks I have stopped growing upwards now, and I weighover 37 kg. Next time she comes I think I may have to breathin, then she might let me have more again!

We had an information day in Wellingborough, and lots ofpeople came to see all of the pups and Guide Dogs from ourarea. We got lots of fuss, and even better, treats...... I'm alwaysready for lots of treats (please don't tell Lucy though, or she'llhave me on rations!)

We went on a very long train trip to an airport.... I didn't knowwhat that was; Mum and Cheryl were going to Venice. Mumwas pulling a big box on wheels everywhere with her, I washoping it was a special bed for me..... We were standing in along queue, and they told me the big box had to go to a ladywho would put it on a plane (didn't know what one of thosewas either) Suddenly a man came and said we could go to thefront of the queue as I was with them, they were really pleased, but the lady looked really worried as she thought I was goingon the plane too. Dad said don't worry, we were just droppingthem off. We went back home on the train, and I got reallyworried as I thought Dad would forget to feed me, but he wasvery good and remembered my meal times for 5 whole days!We were glad when Mum came back home though.

There was a festival of Transport in Earls Barton, lots of differentvehicles and people. Mum and Dad said the weather couldhave been nicer, but it doesn't bother me as I have a nice warmcoat.

We also went to the NFU offices in Wellingborough, GuideDogs are their charity of the year, so they have been raisingmoney to help more visually impaired people to get a GuideDog.

By the time you read this, I will be 15 months old. Mum says Iwont be with her for much longer as "Big School" will bewanting me to go there. I wonder what that means....... as longas they have my dinner and treats, I am sure it will be ok!

Barton Today July 2015

Linda Walden writes...You may remember our article in aprevious Barton Today of our challenge to do the Three Peaks.Well, the Ladies only went and did it and survived!! However Ithink I can say on their behalf it was the toughest thing they haveever done. The Ladies started their journey on Friday 19th at12:30pm,

I was there to wave them off and have to say it was a veryemotional moment as they were wanting to get started - but stillhad the look on their faces saying, “Oh no! What have we letourselves in for?” I felt as if I had been left behind which was avery sad moment. I got a few messages letting me know howfar they had got into their journey.

The first climb was Ben Nevis. This was the highest mountainand it was was climbed in the dark starting at 12:15am.Unfortunately there was no morning sunrise due to weatherconditions but there was lots of snow approximately 8ft, and itwas freezing – in fact so cold that the copy of Barton Todaystayed tucked away in the rucksack. They finished Ben Nevis at9amish and had a much needed breakfast and got themselves(as best they could in a minibus) comfortable for a sleep whilstthe drivers drove them to Scafell. This was also climbed in thedark starting around 7pm – this was a tricky mountain and a lot ofclambering about was needed. After Scafell which they finishedat about 3am they then went on to Snowdon. By this time all theladies were tired due to total lack of sleep, aching and wonderingwhether they could actually do another one. But they did andalthough they all thought this one would be a lot easier. It wasn’t.It is just as difficult and the only advantage was that the climbwas done in daylight and the weather conditions were better.

I can only imagine what the ladies went through, I met them atthe top of Snowdon (I got the train up!) and can say that thelooks on their faces said it all and they still had to climb downSnowdon.

Where they found that last bit of energy from I do not know.I had the honour of walking down Snowdon with them and thesegutsy ladies have my full admiration and respect as I only did thelast leg and can say - it is tough. Speaking with them they haveall gone through a big emotional roller coaster. They have beenthere for each other and spurred each one on when the otherneeded it. If you ask any of them which mountain they preferredor found better to climb they would each say a different one.

At the bottom of Snowdon there was lots of hugs and tears andeventually smiles did start to creep onto their faces. Our trustedguide Mick Finch had even had fish and chips ordered and theywere the best fish and chips ever. We have to mention MickFinch as he is the best - his calm approach and his, “Oh, it’s justround the corner” or “not far now” and his ability to give youthat confidence that you can do it is amazing – and he always hasa smile on his face. Mick also has guides with him as it is a biggroup and without Mick or the guides there is no way we couldhave done it. We also need to mention the drivers – they gaveup their weekend to drive to each mountain, providing supportand keeping everyone safe. And they do this voluntarily.

We all want to thank Mick and his team from the bottom of ourhearts for keeping everyone safe.

In case you have forgotten the ladies, they are: Alexia Tongue,Fiona Mitchell, Halina Thongmata, Irene Loftus, Karen Macarthur,Kate Densley, Kelly Gorton, Lisa Godwin, Susan Price and WendyWard.

Well done to The

Night time climb

Just before leaving Northampton withthe odd one in the front myself.

Kelly & Halinastill smiling!

They did do Earls Barton proud, and I did dare ask if they woulddo it again and it was a definite no.

But I’d say never say never !!!!

A quote from one of the ladies, "Should you try doing the 3Peaks? Hell yes! Do you need to train for it? OMG, yes, Will youremember it forever? YES." And I think that is enough inspirationfor others to give it a try.

I didn’t climb the mountains and I know that the challenge wasfar harder than how I described so please when you see one ofthese ladies do pat them on the back. If anybody still wishes todonate the following are the links below.

The Sturgess family are sad to announce the passing of IanSturgess. Ian was a well known and liked member of ourcommunity.

He has been a cub scout leader in the village for over 30 years, known to most as "Bagheera". The cub scouts was something Ianenjoyed up to his health deteriorating. Ian was also a bell ringerat All Saints Church and a member of the Earls Barton folk danceclub, a hobby he enjoyed with his wife Joy.

Since retiring 2 years ago Ian could often be seen around thevillage with his grandsons and Lexie the dog.

He will be greatly missed by many especially his wife, sons, 7grandchildren and sister. The family would like to take thisopportunity to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers andlove at this difficult time.

Many Thanks Joy, Paul, Faye, Trevor and Lou

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Trevor Skidmore feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing

is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 10yr guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do

the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Earls Barton, Nothampton and Wellingborough areas

is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal

satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Trevor a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Proud sponsors of Earls Barton Cricket Club

We are rapidly approaching the half way point of the season and there have been some good team and individual performances of note so far thisseason. We have also been really pleased with the turn out on Friday night for our youth nets with over 40 under 9’s playing kwick cricket. Withthe atmosphere at the club on Friday night being fantastic for both the parents and children.

Our partnership with Up’s and Down’s is also blossoming with two events planned for later in the year to help raise funds for the charity. The firstevent will be the end of term BBQ on the 21st of July to mark the end of the school term and our final junior practice of the summer. The secondevent is a family funday on the 31st of August. In the mean time we will be lending our support to the Up’s and Down’s by sponsoring Tom Rees onhis 140km bike ride around the Northamptonshire Country Side. You can also give money to Tom on his just giving page.

Our results for June are as follows:• The 30th May: The first team played Irchester and had a convincing victory. Irchester batted first and scored 241 for 8 and we chased down the

total with 2 overs to spare. Matt Rees lead the run chase with an unbeaten score of 152. The second team played away at East Haddon and endured a narrow defeat. We scored 159 off our 45 overs and East Haddon knocked them off with a couple of overs to spare.

• The 6th June: The first team played Old and came a disappointing second in the game. Old scored 255 for 7 off their 50 overs and we were bowled out for 93 in reply. The second team played Old Northamptonians and got a hard fought draw. ON’s scored 259 for 8 in their 50 overs and we finished on 217 for 7 with Chris Smart scoring 99 not out.

• The 13th June: Unfortunately due to the rain that blighted the carnival both cricket games were abandoned.

Our upcoming fixtures for July are as follows:• The 04th July: The first team are at home to S&L Corby. The second team are away to S&L Corby.

• The 11th July: The first team are away to Wellingborough Town. The second team are at home to Ashby Timken.

• The 18th July: The first team are at home to Old Northamptonians. The second team are away to Loddington & Mawsley.

• The 25th July: The first team are away to Great Houghton. The second team are at home to Desborough Town.

Our training sessions for adults are held on Wednesday nights from 6:00pm. While for Junior members the Under 9’s run on Friday’s from 6:00pmto 6:45pm with the U11 and U13, age groups also running on Fridays from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. With the U15 and U17 nets take place on Saturdaymornings from 10:00am.

We are always looking for any new playing or social members as well as volunteers to umpire, score or provide a tea for a game. With twenty twofirst team games in a season there is plenty of opportunity for everyone to get involved!

We are also looking for sponsorship for the season with our target to raise money for the training of coaches for our thriving youth section.Sponsorship of the club starts at £25 for a match day ball sponsor package and we would love to have twenty two sponsors for all of the first teamgames. This would allow us to raise enough money for four coaches to be trained. If you are interested in sponsoring the club please contact ChrisGeorge on 07917 135573 or [email protected].

We hope to see you at Wildlife Watch next month. All Meetings are from 11am - 12.30pm unless otherwise stated.

Last September I finally decided to start universityafter being so adamant it wasn't for me, but my life changingchoices didn't stop there. I also signed up to a challenge of a lifetime.. to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania!!
