Simple steps such as turning off lights when you leave a room, unplugging appliances when youʼre not using them and changing the temperature on your thermostat, when done together, can help your family rack up big energy savings Chef Corliss Jarrett won the 10th Annual Taste of The Town for the second year in a row. Chef Jarrett was presented with two awards giving her top honors with an exclusive Distinction award for “The Best Fine Dining Desserts in Memphis”. The second award was for “Table Presentation”. Chef Jarrett is now collaborating with Assistant Professor Carol Silkes at The University of Memphis and John Pruitt Architects to help build a gingerbread wonderland for Baptist Hospital’s Center for Good Grief. The architectural plan was to build a gingerbread wonderland modeled after architectural genius, Gaudi of Barcelona, Spain. Pruett and Greg Beltz gave high praises of the structure made from hand blown sugar and gingerbread. The unveiling took place Nov. 15, which aired on ABC and CW30. The display will be available to view at The Botanic Gardens until Dec. 15. Chef Jarrett’s recipes will also appear in the Commercial Appeal for the Holidays. The celebrity judges included Ron Childers from Action News 5, Professor Carol Silkes and food critic Jennifer Biggs. The award winning desserts were Vanilla Bean Cake with a warm Morello Cherry Brandy Sauce, Chocolate Ganache Cake with 14karat edible gold, and Carmel Cake with Banana Puddin Ice Cream.
