IINNTTRROODDUUCCTTIIOONN INTRODUCTION Does your garden suddenly look dry and wilted? Are you finding it hard to get new plants to take root and grow? You may think these are signs that insects or bad soil quality are at work but I must warn you it could be a sign something far more sinister is at work. Something you may have heard of. Faeries! There are those who want you to believe faeries are these cute, harmless little winged people who are only curious about humans. That belief could not be farther from the truth. Fairies are nothing more than selfish little addicts, whose sole desire in life is to suck the life right out of your garden. What you don’t know is that a beautiful well tended garden is a place of magic and magic is what the evil little creatures are addicted to. Welcome to Bad Faeries the game of faerie combat. In Bad Faeries each player controls a mob of faeries fighting over a magical garden and the right to drain that garden of its life giving magic.

GETTING STARTED

Below is a list of steps to help get you started with a game of Bad Faeries. Each step is discussed in greater detail in the appropriate chapter.

1. MINIATURES It is a good idea to have the

miniatures of all the faeries you will be using before you create your mob. It is also a good idea for all players to have miniatures that are similar in scale.

2. CREATION POINTS

Before you can create your mob all players must decide on how many creation points will be used for mob construction. An average mob costs 200 creation points.

3. FAERie TYPE There are several different types of faeries that can be added to your mob. Each faerie type has its own unique set of statistics and special rule.

4. WEAPONS Once you have picked all of the different faeries for your mob its time to arm them. 5. ENCHANTMENTS

All faeries have access to magic of some sort but not all faeries have the same enchantments.

Make sure to read through all of the different types of enchantments and choose the ones that best represent the faeries in your mob.

CCHHAAPPTTEERR 11:: FFAAEERRIIEE TTYYPPEESS FAERIE TYPES

There are several different types of faeries found around the world, each with its own unique abilities.

Below is a list of the different types of faeries you can add to your mob.

All faeries are laid out as follows. Name: This is the general name for that type of faerie. Points: This is the amount of creation points to it costs to add that type of faerie to your mob. Special Rule: Each faerie type has its own special rule that pertains to it. Description: This is where you will find a brief description about the faerie type. Statistics Maximums: This is where you will find the statistics for that type of faerie.

BROWNIE

Points: 15 Brownies are house faeries

that can usually be found in and around any human made structures where it is believed they help keep the structure in tact.

The truth is brownies live in those places because it brings them closer to humans and their gardens and usually gives them first crack at the magic before the other faeries arrive.

Brownies will help keep the human home in good repair if their garden is a good source of magic but they will just as quickly cause a great deal of destruction if the human owners don’t take care of their garden.

Special Rule, Rage: Brownies have notoriously short fuses making them prone to fits of rage. When this happens the brownie is often referred to as a boggart. Anytime a brownie loses a point of being it must roll equal to or under its wariness statistic or enter a state of rage. While in this state the brownie has a +2 modifier to its smacks statistic and a -2 modifier to its nimbleness statistic until the end of the current round.

DWARF Points: 15

It is a common belief that dwarves are subterranean faeries preferring to live their lives deep underground where they can mine and collect shiny stones.

While it is true that dwarves like shiny stones the truth is dwarves prefer to live underground because they can sneak in underneath a garden and drain it of its magic usually before any other faerie knows what happened.

A dwarf will help keep a garden free of gophers and other such pests providing the owners of the garden keep it full of magic. However, if the owners don’t take care of their garden the dwarf will cause far more damage than any burrowing animal ever could.

In some areas dwarves are known as gnomes.

Special Rule, Gruff: Dwarves tend to be bad tempered and stubborn which makes them stand their ground even when they probably shouldn’t.

A dwarf may re-roll any failed wariness roll it makes. The second roll must be kept.

GOBLIN Points: 15

Goblins are ugly malicious little faeries that like to make their home in and around garbage. This is quoted for truth. Goblins are not helpful in anyway. They will always choose the path of cruelty and destruction to get what they are after.

They have even been known to kidnap pets and small children in order to force a homeowner to create a more magical garden.

Special Rule, Scary: Goblins have perfected the art of intimidation thanks in part to their hideous appearances.

When a goblin uses this ability the target faerie must roll equal to or under its wariness statistic on a d10 or flee 12” away from the goblin.

LEPRECHAUN Points: 15

If you were to ask anyone they would say that leprechauns are luck faeries that have the ability to grant wishes to anyone lucky enough to find where they have stashed their gold. It is true that they can grant wishes but like the saying goes you better be careful what you wish for.

Leprechauns are extremely greedy and will go to great lengths to

punish those who covet their gold. The favorite way for them to do this is to grant a wish then horribly twist it and turn it against the wisher.

Special Rule, Lucky: Leprechauns have perfected the art of bending the odds in their favor.

Once per round a leprechaun can re-roll one of its dice rolls. Only a single die may be re-rolled. The second result must be kept.

NYMPH Points: 15

Nymphs are water faeries that live in and around small bodies of water, preferably ponds, but a few have been known to take up residence in large fountains. The easiest way to tell if a nymph is happy is by the condition of the water. If the water is clear and full of life she is happy. If the water is devoid of life and stagnant she is unhappy. An unhappy nymph will go as far as to make a homeowner’s water supply foul smelling and murky if they don’t start producing an acceptable garden. Special Rule, Fluidity: Nymphs move with incredible speed and grace making them hard to hit. A nymph may attempt to dodge any ranged combat attack that is successfully used against it. To do this the nymph must roll a d10.

If the roll is 1-3 the nymph has dodged the attack and it is treated as being an unsuccessful attack.

PIXIE Points: 15

It is believed that pixies are playful faeries that delight in playing harmless practical jokes on unsuspecting humans. Playful might not be the best word to describe these faeries and they are definitely not harmless.

They care not for the pain and torment their little jokes cause. All that matters to them is that it makes them laugh.

The best way to get them to stop their mischief is to distract them with a magical garden.

Special Rule, Fly: Pixies have wings that allow them to fly.

When a pixie moves it ignores all terrain features as it does so. However, it must land at the end of its movement in terrain it can normally occupy.
