What is a case interview?

The case interview is an example of a real business problemtypicalof the kind our case teams work to resolve every day. For this reason, ourinterviewers prepare their interviews based on real cases and tend not torely on brainteasers or theoretical problems. Cases involve qualitativeand quantitativequestions as well as real-worldbusinesssituations.We do not strive to test you on business terms and expressions, currentevents, or strategic "frameworks.

Instead, we evaluateyou based on your ability to think about andstructurean approach to solving a business problem, not on whetheryou get the "right" answer. A good case interview should be fun andthought provoking.

The case interview is only one dimension of the recruiting process, but it istypically the part that raises the most anxiety. We hope the information inthis section will help you to prepare for the experience so that you can beconfident and enjoy the interview.

Interview tips

Don't panic if your case is based on anunfamiliar industry. We're interested inhow you analyze the problem, notyour specific business knowledge.

We encourage you to ask clarifyingquestions.

Approach the problem in a structuredmanner and then continue to referback to that structure to logically workthrough the case.

Develop an early hypothesis and thenrefine/prove it throughout the interview

Don't get thrown off track by follow-upquestions. Your interviewer is yourally and uses questions to get a betterunderstanding of your thought process,not to stump you.

Always include a finalrecommendation to the question athandthe best recommendations arepractical and actionable

There is no one "right" answer. Case

interviews should be thoughtfuldialogues about potentialapproaches to solving a tough businessproblem.
