Y8 Bake It! Competition Results

This was the hardest competition to judge – you are all winners! Choosing the top 3 was virtually impossible.Very well done to everyone that participated.

Akira Street Japanese Ramen

For the competition I made traditional Japanese ramen. Though ramen is one of the most popular fast foods in Japan it isn't quick to make. My ramen was made of a beef, mushroom, carrot and rib broth that I let boil for 2½ hours, accompanied by noodles, seaweed and oolong tea. I served it in a 100-year-old Japanese bowl for authenticity and I loved every mouth-watering bite of it.

Alex Gardner-WilceHomemade Bread

The soft white loaf makes your mouth water, and the soft crust tops it off with the smooth butter.

Florence Rodway

Ilythia WatsonAmerican Pancakes

Mum’s Comment: Ilythia’s 2-year-old brother got diagnosed with an auto immune disease (type 1 diabetes) before Christmas, as a result we are trying to ensure he having less carbs so does not become insulin dependent at such a young age. This meal is a delicious well-seasoned diabetic friendly meal as the bacon and eggs do not require insulin. The pancakes do, however its a small amount.

Will SandersonChocolate Birthday Cake

When you bite into it your mouth is filled with the soft succulent icing and the crunch of the chocolates on top. The icing melts.

Aaron PalmerPineapple Upside-Down Cake

Lovely cake, nice and moist and not too sweet - would recommend! - Dad

Byron MajorVegan Churros

Mums comment: lovely to have a dessert we can all enjoy together. Seems unfair Byron usually misses out with his allergies. Vegan friendly churros were very tasty and delicious. Was nice to have someone cook for me which has been a long time since someone has. Thanks Byron; same again tonight 😂

Alex Walker -Cappuccino Cake

Mum’s Review:

“This is a delicious cake! The sponge is light and fluffy, which contrasts with the rich coffee flavour and toasted walnut crunch. The indulgent mascarpone icing is heavenly! The flavours are distinctly Italian and remind me of happy holidays in the sunshine! 🌞😎 Alex can make this cake as often as he likes!”

Isabelle Marshall –Beignets

This is a picture of the beignets I made. They are very similar to donuts, and are covered in honey and icing sugar. They are inspired by Tiana’s beignets from the Disney movie ‘princess and the frog’.

Oliver Cheal –Shortbread biscuits

Review from family at home: delicious buttery and perfect with a cup of tea!

Tommy Lonsdale –Welsh Rarebit

Review from sister, Casey:

It look professional and she could eat it for breakfast or snack or dinner or tea and vegetarian and meat eaters but not vegan because of the egg and she said it is 9/10.

Tyreece Jones –Lobster Wellington with Prawn Mousse and Sauce Américaine.

Family Review:

My Grandmother said it was very nice.

William HuntleyChocolate Tardis Cake

My review:

This Doctor who inspired cake was hard to build but was a good result. It had great flavour and the icing gave it the finishing touch. I love it.

My mums review:

Will worked super hard constructing this TARDIS cake. Took a long time to build up layers. Tastes absolutely delicious with the chocolate fondant in each layer. So proud he attempted it.

Harrison Curl-Wride –Raspberry Cheesecake Sundae

Indulge in this creamy, rich, raspberry treat – Delicious and yet

low fat!

Review: I thought it was a lovely surprise, it was creamy yet the

sharpness. Delicious.

Zuzanna Rybska

This is a very tasty volcano shaped cake. It has a quite healthy smooth taste and texture inside. On the top of the cake is white melted chocolate instead of icing. It has a taste of vanilla and a bit of sprinkles on the top.

Anonymous –Lockdown 3 Cake

The cake represents how even though we have been in 3 lockdowns, the school and all the teachers had been amazing- that’s what the stars represent.

Chloe Mason -Chocolate Cake

Review from Mum:

The butter icing was super sweet and tasty, the chocolate sponge was light and delicious with an added treat of a Nutella layer in between! Very happy she inherited her baking skills from her Granny!

Scarlett Randles –Eight-tier towering red velvet Valentine’s cake.

Review by Anna:

The cake was delicious, it had a fluffy and moist sponge and a lovely flavour. The cream cheese frosting was not too sweet and complimented the sponge perfectly. I was stunned by the presentation of the cake, it was magnificent in size and carefully decorated with delicate, edible hearts. I thoroughly enjoyed my (large!) slice of cake and would definitely recommend!

Tilly Hudson-Hulls

Lemon sponge with white fondant around the outside.

Julia Rowles

This is the COVID-19 cake.

It represents the virus that has made our life lonely as we can’t see our friends and family. This cake is the only thing good about Covid-19 as it won’t make you ill and it will taste delicious.

My mum and dad had some last night and they said it was yummy and had another slice.

Thuksha Thavalingam

The inside is a pink velvet cake. It is fluffy and light with a pink texture inside, which will taste a bit like a strawberry flavour. The outside is covered in fondant in the colours: black, white and green, which gives the cake a decent texture and taste. It also has blue butter icing as the first layer, under the fondant.

Joshua Jenkins

Luke Bull –A chocolate cake with white chocolate drip and enough sugar to last a lifetime!

• My - mum said: if I had this for my birthday cake then I would be very happy

• My sister said: the cake is very nice and you do need to take a small slice; there’s a lot of chocolate

Freddy McIntyre

This cake is a vanilla cake with butter cream in the middle. It has a blue fondant on top and on the sides. The face mask on the side reads “ RIP SIR TOM MOORE” who sadly passed away after raising £32,000,000 for the NHS.

This was a second attempt at a rainbow cake designed by Freddy. The first turned out a number of different shades of green 😉

After a quick online shop, we found some vibrant colours that would be perfect for this cake. Two days and 12 layers of cake later, Freddy is very proud of what he created, as am I.

The cake is vanilla flavoured with a butter cream icing with blue fondant. It’s very soft and goes lovely with a nice cup of tea. I’m sure Freddy’s Dad is going to make the most out of not being able to share this with any other family members due to lockdown.
