• LPI-LET : Linux Essentials Technician

• LPIC-1 : Junior Level Linux Certification – 101 : It covers basic skills for the Linux professional that are common to major distributions of Linux.

– 102 : It covers basic skills for the Linux professional that are common to major distributions of Linux.

• LPIC-2 : Advanced Level Linux Certification – 201 : It covers advanced skills for the Linux professional common across all distributions of Linux.

– 202 : It covers advanced skills for the Linux professional common across all distributions of Linux.

• LPIC-3 : Senior Level Linux Certification – 301 : Core : It tests skills in authentication, troubleshooting, network integration and capacity planning.

• LPIC-1 : Workstation networking and administration

• Overview of Tasks :

– To pass Level 1, someone should be able to:

• Work at the Linux command line

• Perform easy maintenance tasks: help users, add users to a

larger system, backup and restore, shutdown and reboot

• Install and configure a workstation (including X) and connect it to

a LAN, or a standalone PC to the Internet.

• LPIC-2 : Server administration and Internet services

• Overview of Tasks :

– To pass Level 2, someone should be able to:

• Administer a small to medium-sized site

• Plan, implement, maintain, keep consistent, secure, and

troubleshoot a small mixed (MS, Linux) network, including a:

– LAN server (samba)

– Internet Gateway (firewall, proxy, mail, news)

– Internet Server (webserver, FTP server)

• Supervise assistants

• Advise management on automation and purchases

• LPIC-2 : Server administration and Internet services

• Overview of Tasks :

– To pass Level 2, someone should be able to:

• Administer a small to medium-sized site

• The LPIC-3 certification is the culmination of LPI's

certification program.

designations on top of the LPIC-3 core.

• Proposed specialties include:

– mixed environment

– security

– high availability and virtualization

– web and intranet

– mail and messaging

• Overview of Tasks :

– To pass Level 3 – Core (301), someone should be able to: • Have several years experience with installing and maintaining Linux on many computers

for various purposes

• Have integration experience with diverse technologies and operating systems

• Have professional experience as, or training for, an enterprise-level Linux professional.

(This includes experience as a part of another role.)

• Know advanced and enterprise levels of Linux administration, including installation,

management, security, troubleshooting and maintenance

• Be able to use open-source tools to measure capacity planning and to troubleshoot

resource problems

• Have professional experience using LDAP to integrate with Unix services and Windows

services, including Samba, PAM, email, Active Directory

• Be able to plan, architecture, design, build and implement a full environment using Samba

and LDAP as well as measure the capacity planning and security of the services

• Be able create scripts in Bash or Perl or has knowledge of at least one system

programming language (such as C)

Windows, including user management, domain control, security and performance tuning

• Be able to plan, design, build and implement a complete multi-user environment using

Samba

• Prerequisites: You must have an active LPIC-2 certification to

receive LPIC-3 certification, but the LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 exams may be

taken in any order.

• Requirements: Passing the 301 exam and any one of the LPI 302 -

306 exams to receive the respective specialty certification

• Overview of Tasks :

– To pass Level 3 – Security (303), you should be able to: • Have necessary skills and experience as outlined in LPIC-3 core exam

• Design and implement customized solutions to complex automation problems such as

multi-site enterprises and heavy-duty Internet sites

• Initiate projects and work against a budget.

• Supervise assistants and help troubleshoot problems.

• Serve as a consultant to higher management.

• Prerequisites: You must have an active LPIC-2 certification to

receive LPIC-3 certification, but the LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 exams may be

taken in any order.

• Requirements: Passing the 301 exam and any one of the LPI 302 -

306 exams to receive the respective specialty certification

– To pass Level 3 – Virtualization and high availability

(304), you should be able to work with : • Virtualization (Xen, KVM and other)

• Load balancing (Linux virtual server, HAProxy, LinuxPMI)

• Cluster management (Pacemaker, advanced Pacemaker, Red Hat cluster suite)

• Cluster storage (DRBD, Global File System and OCFS2, other clustered file system)

• Prerequisites: You must have an active LPIC-2 certification to

receive LPIC-3 certification, but the LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 exams may be

taken in any order.

Taking exams

• Exam costs Depending on where you take LPI exams, the cost will usually

be the equivalent of 150€. Note that the LPIC-3 exam is priced

differently then all other exams, it is 220€ for a single exam.

In our case, we have the academic price : details next slide

Except for the LPI-LET certification : it cost 50€

• Receiving your certification Once you have passed all the required exams to achieve a

certification, you will be automatically notified by email, at the

email address you provided when you obtained your LPI

identification number.

Within four to eight weeks of receiving this email, you will

receive, by post, your paper certificate and plastic LPI wallet

card. Congratulations!

• Training procedure For administrative reasons, you need to subscribe to the training

at EICVN school office.

The « LPI module » is called « Actualisation informatique » and

the prices are the following :

Taking exams

• Step 1 : Register – You must register online to receive an LPI identification number first. Registration

is free of charge and is completed at the LPI web site. [here]

• Step 2 : Choose your program – LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certification) is offered at multiple levels.

Indicate which exams and level of LPIC you are pursuing.

• Step 3 : Understand LPI policies – it is important that anyone planning to take LPI exams is aware of our policies on

issues such as exam re-takes and expiry. Please read and understand our

policies before taking LPI exams.

• Step 4 : Schedule to take and exam – You must provide your LPI ID to the test centers when registering for an exam.

– You can register for LPI exams through one of the thousands of Pearson VUE or

Prometric testing centers worldwide.

• Step 5 : Take the exam

Taking exams

• Summary – You must register online to get an LPI-ID

– You must give me your name, LPI-ID an e-mail

– The exams is about to take 90 minutes each

– They are paper based (not on computer, except for

LPI-LET certification and VUE / Prometric center)

– You must bring your ID-Card with you

– You should receive results in about two weeks

– The certification is valid during 5 years

– Each certified poeple can be checked online
