The chief argument in favour of

investing offshore is the concept

of diversification. Often referred

to as the first rule in investments,

diversification allows for the fact

that there are no certainties in ones

investment decisions. While rigorous

analysis and prudent assumptions will ensure that you

make fewer mistakes, there will be mistakes nonetheless,

and therefore your eggs should not all be in the same basket.

The key motivation for global diversifi cation should be to gain

access to asset classes, which either show lower correlation

to the local market or which offer growth opportunities not

available in our market. While the JSE has provided some

good offshore diversifi cation over the years, offshore markets

offer a much larger universe for achieving this goal.

Offshore equity, fixed income and property markets are not

perfectly correlated to domestic equity, fixed income and

property markets, and in some asset classes and regions,

the correlation is actually quite low or negative.

Technology stocks would be an example of a sector very

poorly represented on the local market, which could be

accessed through offshore diversification.

Using portfolio theory, if you plot an efficient frontier, you

would notice that, as you incrementally add offshore

exposure to a 100% domestic portfolio, over certain

periods, the efficient frontier shifts up and to the left

meaning you get a greater return per unit of risk.

This leads to a second important reason for investing

offshore, which is that it opens up a world of opportunity to

South African investors, not readily available to them within

our borders.

Bouncing off the walls is going to take on a whole new meaning when THE JUMP PARK opens its doors in early January 2016. This mammoth wall-to-wall trampoline park will bring over 1700 square feet of adrenaline-pumping, flipping, flying and gravity-defying trampoline surface area to the North Coast, making it the biggest indoor activity area ever to open in Ballito. Keen to bring something unique to South Africa and, more specifically, Ballito, the owners travelled both nationally and internationally to see what was on offer around the world. Their time in the US, home to the biggest trampoline parks, was invaluable and they have brought much of what they learned there right here to the North Coast.

As far as location goes, Ballito, with its exceptional growth and more and more families seeking a more active, healthy lifestyle is perfect for the Jump Park. This focus on an active lifestyle and healthy entertainment for kids, as opposed to video games, trawling malls and TV time, means that THE JUMP PARK will appeal to all ages, from five to 65, and offers an experience with loads of different ways to get your bounce on when they open in their new building at Sugar Rush Park.

There is so much to do across the many arenas, all under one roof. The main arena is a large freestyle jumping area with trampoline walls and obstacles that make for a perfect open-plan, freestyle arena. Then there is a large netted dodge-ball arena for adhoc challenges or league dodge-ball; slam dunk tracks; high-flying trampolines over large foam pits; an impressive 10-metre tumble track that also ends in a foam pit; a gladiator area to pit your fighting skills against opponents; a spiral slide that ends in the foam pit; a climbing wall and an extreme jamming wall area for hard-core sportsmen and parkour enthusiasts.

Apart from the standard open jump time slots, parents will also be able to book birthday parties that can be held either during the day or at night. Team-building is also available at THE JUMP PARK and there are separate break-away rooms that can be used for more corporate-type discussions in between all the fun activity stuff. For moms looking to chill or flitter around online, there are workstations, couches and a chill-out area with Wi-Fi. There is also a full restaurant for jumpers or visitors located in the Sugar Rush park where you can to catch your breath, grab a coffee or cooldrink and a bite to eat.
