They should be completely addressed to your legislator(s) to their State Capitol address. (as indicated on the instructions) - so that supporters know who they are being sent to. NEED A BANNER? If you are interested in a banner for your CCB – please get the word into us as soon as possible as the initial supply of 130 banners is diminishing. It is not known when/if a second batch will be printed – pending demand. PHOTOS – we have been sharing some of the quality pictures that have been sent into us from the field – to entice you to send us YOURS! Just send us your BEST ones, please…..no “photo dumps” are necessary! While we may be able to “restore” some of those marginal cell camera pictures, preferred pictures are the ones generated from actual digital calendars….thanks! Remember – the pictures complete the trifecta of banners/postcards/pictures that we plan to use during the active legislative session and perhaps prior to – in order to spur the conversations and actions towards Funding The Trust in 2017!

ABOVE:  Linn CCB has a  “static” exhibit  just  inside  the entrance  to their Learning Center. While collecting  signatures, visitors can also fill  out  postcards  to  their  legislators  and  pick  up  additional information  about  Iowa’s  Natural  Resources  and  Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund.     (Soft supervision is provided) BELOW:  Participants  at  a  Buchanan  CCB  event  benefitted  from  a presentation about  the Trust Fund  from BCCB Director Cohen, and then gathered for a picture below the banner in their Nature Center. The event also generated some post cards! THANKS to all the counties that are rolling with this initiative!

NOTE: CCBs expecting to

receive banners in August

should have them next week!

BECOMING AND OUTDOORS WOMAN - Iowa DNR

The fall Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop is Sept. 16-18, at the Springbrook Conservation Education Center, adjacent to Springbrook State Park, north of Guthrie Center. While the focus of BOW is primarily for women, the workshop is an opportunity for anyone 18 years or older to learn outdoor skills. Workshop courses include basic fishing, Dutch oven cooking, birdwatching, kayaking, deer hunting, wild edibles, basic camping, intro to archery, intro to firearms, canoeing and more.“This workshop is an excellent opportunity to try activities under the guidance of our top-notch instructors,” said Rachel Ladd, with the Iowa Departments of Natural Resources. “Our workshop is popular because we keep our class sizes small and the setting at Springbrook is beautiful, particularly in the fall.” The cost for the workshop is $150 before Sept. 4, and $180 beginning Sept. 5. The fee includes program materials, equipment, lodging and meals. Enrollment is limited to 100 participants. A limited number of scholarships are available that can reduce the fee by $75. Follow the link below to download a registration form, select classes and for more information on applying for a scholarship. Lodging is in dormitories with eight people per room.

DISTRICT 4 MEETS IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

The August 18th summer meeting for District 4 was held at the Wolfe Nature Center in the Anderson Conservation Area near Red Oak. It was good to see some Conservation Board members in attendance from Fremont and Montgomery counties! A good discussion was had with regional DNR Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes – as we talked about the various regional fisheries as well as the Fish Habitat Grant Program. Summer also means crankin’ up the barbee….kudos to Will Horsley and his staff of the Montgomery CCB for linin’ up the coals and grills to accommodate the troops! Miss a District Meeting – Miss a Bunch!
