Acknowledgement of Country.
We, the parishioners of the Banyo Nundah Catholic Parish, acknowledge the Turrbal people, the Traditional Custodians
who have walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge the continued deep
spiritual attachment and relationship of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Peoples to this country and commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.
We pay our respects to any first nation peoples who are
present among us. “……MAY THEY ALL BE ONE” (John 17:20)
Plenary Council 2020 Prayer.
Come, Holy Spirit of Pentecost. Come, Holy Spirit of the great South Land. O God, bless
and unite all your people in Australia and guide us on the pilgrim way of the Plenary
Council. Give us the grace to see your face in one another and to recognise Jesus, our
companion on the road. Give us the
courage to tell our stories and to speak boldly of your truth. Give us ears to listen
humbly to each other and a discerning heart to hear what you are saying. Lead your Church into a hope-filled future, that we may live
the joy of the Gospel. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, bread for the journey from age to age. Amen. Our Lady Help of Christians, pray
for us. St Mary MacKillop, pray for us.
From Fr. Bernie:
The Word of God (Gospel) for Today:
In each year in our three-year lectionary cycle John the
Baptist appears on this Sunday in the gospel reading as the voice crying “Prepare a way for the Lord”. This
year we read more of John’s message than in the other
years, and it sounds severe, even frightening, as he talks of a coming retribution. Some people may
read today’s passage (Matt 3:1-12) as supporting that penitential, quasi-Lenten view of Advent to which I objected
last Sunday. Those thoroughly familiar with the book of Isaiah, as first century Christians were, should recognize
that the quote “A voice cries…” (Isaiah 40:3) that is used in
all four gospels belongs to a passage joyfully proclaiming to the Babylonian exiles the imminence of God’s
saving intervention – it does not announce a damning retribution. The lectionary itself reminds us of this context
as each year the first reading chosen to accompany this
account of John the Baptist is a passage of hopeful expectation, from Isaiah in years A and B,
and from Baruch in year C. The Lectionary devisers chose not to use the close parallel in Malachi (3:1) that heads a
negative message. (From Liturgia by Rev Dr Barry Craig)
May Advent be a time of joyful hope as we prepare for
Christmas.
School Holidays. Most of our parish students have commenced the summer holidays. As always my usual wish
for all our students is that, during the break, they be happy, healthy and holy in themselves and bring happiness to
others.
Christmas 2019. The Mass and Sacrament of Penance
times are published for your information and for sharing with fellow parish Catholics especially those who have lost
contact with the Church. At Christmas time the grace of belonging is in focus. We believe that by becoming one of
us God revealed His desire to belong to us so that we might
belong to God and to one another.
Every Advent Blessing,
Fr. Bernie.
Our Mission is to be a united, sharing and inclusive Catholic Parish.
Our aim is to be open, welcoming and responsive
to the diverse needs within our parish and the community.

The Holy Father’s Intentions for December Universal:
That every country determine to take the necessary measures to make the future of the
very young, especially those who suffer, a priority.
The month of December is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Stewardship “Therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” MATTHEW 3:10 Do you bear good fruit for Christ? Or, do you spend your time, talent and treasure constantly acquiring more toys,
clutter and junk. Our time, our talent and our treasure are gifts that God has given us. What we do with them is our
gift back to God. What gifts are you planning to give to the
Lord during this upcoming Christmas season?

Conference would like to request our valued parishioners assistance in providing Christmas
hampers to those needy families in our community that are less fortunate. A Christmas tree dressed with Tags
nominating food items and gifts for children is placed in
front of Our Lady’s altar at Corpus Christi church, from the first weekend of November, through to the 15th of
December 2019. Please take a tag, purchase the nominated items, and place them back in the baskets at the
altar. Your generous contributions will assist us in
delivering approximately 50 to 55 hampers across the area. Cash donations which can be placed in the box near the
entrance of the church will also be most welcome. Should you have any questions please contact Doug Desouza on
0407 055 764, Paul Balbuziente on 0433 134 638 or Bernie

December.
The Nundah St Vincent de Paul Piety stall is well stocked with packets of Christmas cards and the 2020 Columban
Calendar. There is also new stock suitable for Christmas
gifts.
