In 2009, a Bible study was started that consisted of a partnership between Ginger Peterson and a group of single mothers and widows from the Kibera Slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Soon after, God called Ginger to establish a training center, The Baraka Women’s Center. ‘Baraka’ is the Swahili word for blessing, and after much hard work and through God’s provision, the Baraka Women's Center has truly become a blessing. It now functions as a training center that teaches women from Kibera Slum sewing expertise and other life skills. The program accepts new students on a regular basis and at graduation, each women receives a sewing machine to help kickstart her business.
