    Risk Management Plan

    1. Introduction

Barcoded Assessment System for Independent Learning (BASIL) is a new project that developed by

Coventry University to streamline the assessment which are valuable for both student and staff. BASIL

System uses barcode technology to keep track of all assessment (both paper and electronic based)

    1.1 Purpose

Risk Management Plan (RMP) identifies the process for anticipatory risk management of the overall

management of BASIL. Risk Management Plan is a document to reduce the events that might be risky or

can cause issues in implementation of the project. The Risk Management Plan which is prepared

elaborately will increase probability of project success. Identifying the risks at the beginning of the project

will help us to solve the problems easily and it will cost us less.

    1.2 Scope

This Risk Management Plan (RMP) defines the methodologies used to manage risk through the project

process. This document will describe who will manage a specific risk or a list of risks and keep track of

risks during the project lifecycle of BASIL.

    1.5 Overview

This document represents the plan to eliminate the possible obstacles from the success of the project. This

    document includes following sections respectively:

Risk Summary: A brief overview of the project.

Risk Management Tasks: A brief description of the risk management tasks.

Organization and Responsibilities: A list of the risk management activities and a description of the tasks

    and responsibilities.

Budget: The budget available for managing project risks.

Tools and Techniques: A list of the tools and techniques that will be used to store risk information, evaluate

risks, track the status of risks or generate risk management reports.

Risk Items to Manage: A list of the risk items that have been identified.

    2. Risk Summary

BASILwas initiated by Coventry University to handle the issue of managing assessments. System was

needed in situation when everybody wants to track the status of assessments on needed times but problem

comes up when somebody tries to keep track of all his/her assessments. Eventually, university has decided

to create a system that can efficiently handle this issue. Accomplishing this project successfully willprovide that everybody has fast and safe access to the assessments.

We do not expect enormous amount of risk involved in the implementation process when we consider the

project, however, due to the importance of the project, all risks should be eliminated cautiously.

    3. Risk Management Tasks

Risk Management Process consists of four sections: Identification, assessment, response, and mitigation.

    3.1 Risk Identification

A risk is external circumstances or events that may prevent the project from successful completion orprogressing as planned. Risks might be derived from many various sources. Some of them can be obvious

and they can be defined prior to project starts. However, there might be many risks that can be described

whilst the project lifecycle and can be caught by anyone in the project team.

BASIL has full responsibility for all risks can be occurred in the project. Due to all artifact responsibilities

are divided into group work, Mehmet Yavuz ERDEM and Saud Aljaloud are given the responsibility to

direct Risk Management Plan of BASIL.

To carry on risk awareness and risk communication, risk identification will be continued process during the

project. Risk awareness means every member in the project team being aware of all risks that can be

occurred in the project. Risk communication is a process of exchange of information and opinion about risk

factors or events among project manager and project team.

    3.2 Risk Assessment

Risk assessment consists of two elements, our team has chosen qualities approach for the risk assessment

    for BASIL.

First element is the likelihood of occurrence which is the certainty of a risk to occur. There might be many

ways to measure it but we will use the following table:

Other element is risks impact on the project and to describe impact categories, following table will be

    used:

    4. Organization and Responsibilities

Following table describes the specific responsibilities for the different aspects of the risk management:

    5. Budget

Budget of the whole project will be described in the elaboration phase of the BASIL. However, proposed

budget will be defined through the likelihood of risk to arise multiply by approximately cost for a risk. For

instance, approximately cost for a risk is 100.000 and the probability of occurring risk is %70 thenproposed budget will be 70.000 (100.000 * 70 / 100).

    6. Tools and Techniques

We have decided on brainstorming technique to specify the risks relevant to BASIL. To accomplish this

goal we have arranged several meetings that all members in the team attended and shared their opinions.

BASIL is a small project, thus we have decided to have a well-qualified risk assessment tool to assess the

risks that is why document consists of list of risks with risk rankings.
