Tuesday's Wollundry Meeting
CSU Scholarship WinnersPosted by Paul J Murray on Sep 03, 2013
Paul Gianottis introduced our CSU Scholarship students, Abby Jones and Jess Cole.
Jess spoke first thanking members for the Scholarship. She was the recipient of the $500 Book prize.
Jess appreciated the prize and used it to buy a $230 Microbiology text book. There is no opportunity to borrow a textbook from the library and students need the latest publications which necessitates purchasing new books. Jess is originally from Wagga and she is studying pharmacy. She is keeping as involved as she can, is studying hard and loving Uni. She concluded by saying that she will try to do her best.
Abby Jones expressed a very sincere thank you to all of the members for her scholarship as she can use the annual instalments to help pay for her education. She studying nursing and she would like to make a difference on the Rural health levels. She loves what she is doing. She was originally in medicine, but she will be staying in nursing. She says that the scholarship alleviates the financial pressure. She feels it is very important to be involved in the Community and she is currently involved with the Starlight Foundation and St Vincent’s DePaul. Her extra time is spent promoting Rural Health.
Phil noted that these two exceptional ladies were fine examples of the reasons why Wollundry members work so hard on the markets to give back to the community.
John Ireland gave vote of Thanks on the inspirational talks that Jess and Abby gave. He presented both of them with a small gift and called upon the members to show their appreciation.

Presidents ReportPosted by Paul J Murray on Sep 03, 2013
President Phil welcomed all members and guests. He called upon Nelson to come forward to update us on his activities. Nelson has been to Mt Selwyn and had a great time.
Phil thanked Dennis Shean for taking over Pride of Workmanship. He asked that members consider people who would be good nominees for Pride Of Workmanship Awards. Thanks to James Hamilton for looking after the sign at North Wagga.
Phil would like to seriously promote the Sydney Sailing Weekend. He has been observing good emails going around about the past week. Mark has explored the opportunity to sail in a much larger yacht that would take everyone. It looks like a fantastic experience so please contact Mark one way or the other.
Phil reminded everyone of the successful relaunch of the “Wheel Meal Deal” and asked all participants to please follow Peter's schedule.
Condolences to Alan Lloyd on the loss of his father. A card is being routed.
It was also noted that Kevin Watts lost his sister recently and Phil expressed the clubs condolences.
President Phil noted that Sargeant Tim Barter had been called away and could not make it today. In place of the Sargeant session, Secretary Paul announced that everyone should throw a dollar into the middle of the table and he conducted a round of Heads and Tails. See the photo below.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Phil thanked all visitors and guests and also welcomed back John Ferguson and his new knee.
New DirectionsPosted by Paul J Murray on Sep 03, 2013
Phil followed up on last week’s discussion on New Directions for the club.
Feedback to the board seemed to indicate that there were two projects that had legs. Those projects were the Twilight Farmer’s Market and the Bike Ride.
He spoke of fortnightly Farmer’s Markets, one on Saturday Morning and the other a twilight Friday Market. Phil asked for volunteers who would like to look into the proposed projects. Anyone who is interested in being involved in the discussion of either project, please talk to Phil.
There was a general consensus from the floor that committees should look into these two projects, present their findings to the board and then the information will be presented to the full club. .

Rotary Friendship ExchangeCharter President Graham Hornibrook was at the meeting and President Phil asked him to come up and tell us about Rotary Friendship Exchange. Graham came to the rostrum and discussed his upcoming trip to New York State.
This will be Graham’s third friendship exchange. He has been to Canada and South Africa previously. The way the program works is you pay for your own airfare to the destination, but you live with Rotarians.
Graham will be living with 3 different families while he is there. It is an exchange program where families that you visit will come back to visit you. He is told that it is a beautiful time of the year to visit NY state with the colour of the autumn leaves. He will be taking a half dozen banners from Wollundry and he received a number of photos from Paul showing the markets and the Food and Wine Festival. There are three Rotary exchanges coming up: to Sweden, England and India. Click here for the District Friendship Exchange Newsletter.
25 years in WollundryPresident Phil called on David Benn who spoke about the dinner held last Friday for members with 25 years of service in the club. It was a formal and fantastic night. It was held at the Riverine Club and organised by Pat Ingram and catered by Daryl and Doris Lamont. Those attending were:
David and Cherie BennGraham BurmeisterDavid and Brenda ByfieldKen CookPeter and Gaye CrozierJohn and Maria EganJohn and Norma GrayPat and Carol IngramJohn and Isabel IrelandMichael KnightRick and Margaret Priest
There were a lot of memories articulated by everyone and there have been great friendships established that would not have been except for this great club.
