Charlotte’s Web Literature Study

Over the last few weeks students in Grade 2M and 2S have undertaken a literature study on Charlotte’s Web,

which linked to our integrated unit on farms. The children really enjoyed the story of Charlotte’s Web. They pro-

duced some wonderful work which included a problem pig, solution spider, sequence of events fan, friendship

web, setting, question and text connections booklets and character cards for The Goose, Old Sheep, Templeton,

Charlotte, Fern and Wilbur. Students also created a special folder to keep all their work in. Please see the photos

below for some of the amazing work the students completed.

School Website—New School Website Online!

Our new school website is online from tomorrow. When visiting the new website, you will see an updated, mod-ern design and with a range of recent photography. Once familiar with the layout, the site should be easier to navigate. Our main aims are to provide good communication with parents and students and to allow prospective new families to easily access information they seek.

The tabs across the top of the homepage link to information pages related to a wide range of topics grouped into: About Us; Student Wellbeing; Curriculum; Parent Hub; and Blogs. There are also quick links to: our school calendar; forms and notices; the school newsletter; and school contact details. Near the bottom of the page we have some interesting links to information that promote and market our school and our world class programs.

There a small number of pages and information that will be updated into the new year, but we trust these will not hinder your access to the new website.

Again, I would like to thank, Dougall McIntyre of Bayside Solutions, for managing our website and Olga Kustova for her assistance with the webpage design. I would also like to thank the many staff members who have con-tributed to updating sections of the website.

Any feedback about the new design would be greatly appreciated.

The Magical Mystery Tour

On Thursday the 10th of December, the students in Year 6 witnessed a brand new tradition brought into

the school by Mr Williams, the Principal. It was called the Magical Mystery Tour. In the morning we got

on a bus and travelled to an unknown destination. We were surprised when the bus pulled up outside

Luna Park! We were able to go on any of the rides we wanted. Everyone had a great day. Here are some

comments from the students that participated.

Luna Park was a very exciting and adventurous excursion for the Year 6s. We had a great time and en-

joyed the day. I would like to thank Mr Williams for organising the day. – Divya

The Magical Mystery Tour was more of a Magical Mystery Adventure at Luna Park with awesome rides

and time to spend with mates before graduating and overall happiness. – Sanskar

The Magical Mystery Tour was the most magical thing I have ever experienced at BSPS. – Thomas Wil-

liams

My favourite part of the Magical Mystery Tour was the Pharaoh’s Curse Ride. It was really scary and fun.

– Cara

I had an awesome time taking some of the scariest rides and I had the best time of my life at Luna Park. –

Ravi

It was exciting arriving at an unknown destination. My mouth dropped! We were at Luna Park! – Ethan

At Luna Park I had such a fun time. At first I was scared but I still went on a ride seventeen times!

The Scenic Railway way beyond amazing! The adrenalin hit that hit me was so big. It made me feel sick!

– Erik

It was an exciting day going to Luna Park, before the Year 6s go to High School. – Amy

The Mystery Tour was a great way to hang out with friends and enjoy themselves before graduating. –

Connor

At the Dodgem Cars, Mr Williams, the Principal was chasing me in his dodgem car. – Patrick

We all had a blast and would like to thank Mr Williams our Principal, for organising the day and all the

staff members who attended to supervise us and share in the fun.

Embrace The Chaos Of Holidays And Survive Well!

Hi Parents, how can you embrace the chaos of the holidays with your children?

There’s a certain chaos, unpredictability and spontaneity about childhood that adults can’t contain. We try very hard to control it, but it generally comes out at some point. Sure, we’ve got to keep our children safe and teach them to be social, but we tend to socialise some of the chaos out of them. Basically, that is what discipline is about. It’s for their good as much as ours. But when we understand that there is a certain spirit to childhood that we can't hold back, we tend to relax more into parenting. We have to let our kids be kids! Now that the holidays have nearly arrived you may find your children become more unpredictable, more de-manding and more child-like. They may become more noisy, more boisterous and more messy than you’re used to. You’ve got two choices when you’re confronted with childhood chaos........get annoyed and fight it, or go with the flow and accept it. If you’re having trouble deciding, it’s worth remembering that childhood is pretty short and children grow up very fast, so make the most of this special time. If you can, let chaos be your friend for a while and embrace the changes your children and holidays bring.

Most of us can’t wait until the holidays come. There’s a collective sigh as school ends and we get off the extreme-ly busy activity roundabout. Then it’s full steam ahead to Christmas and the long break. It’s great to spend some down-time with your children, but it can also become a tedious time. I always found it best to mix up the activi-ties during the holidays. That is, mix the time between Family time, Free time & Friend time. Family time is the time children spend with you one-on-one or playing with their siblings, or when the whole family goes out or spends quality time together at home. Free time is about children occupying themselves, which is a really important skill to learn. So don't be on the go all the time, children need to have the chance to learn to keep themselves occupied. Encourage them to get outside in the fresh air too. Friend time is about children spending some time with their friends in the neighbourhood or from school, or it may be with their cousins. It’s also about parents spending time with friends as well. Holidays are a great time to catch up. Get the balance right and there’s more of a chance that you’ll all have a great break and no one will get sick of each other. So remember to take one day at a time and if you have a bad day, there’s always tomorrow when you get a fresh start and the chance to change what you found didn’t work yesterday.

Have a wonderful Christmas break, a special time with your precious family and enjoy the chance to sit back and delight in your children, because they do grow up so quickly!!

Christmas Blessings to you all
