    (7)

    (b) Title of Ph. D. Thesis: Medico-Physical Studies on Epilepsy and otherNeurological disorders.

    (c) Summary:

The experimental findings reported in the present work pertain to theapplications of several spectoscopic (FT-IR, NMR, UV, Atomic absorption &

PAS) and immunophysical techniques to study neurophysical aspects of grandmal epilepsy (GME), right focal seizures (RFS) and migraine. Standard statistical

tests like regression analysis and standard student t tests were employed to

    analyse the data obtained.

In GME, levels of IgA, IgG and IgM are found to be higher than normal. The double correlation coefficients of two variables were found to obey the

    relation

    rGM > rAG > rAM

C3 and C4 complements are found to be strongly correlated in epilipticdisorders. The observed lines in FT-IR spectra were assigned the specific bonds

which get established in these neurological disorders. On the basis of atomic

absorption studies of the levels of Zn, Cu and Fe in the sera of epileptic patients, itwas concluded that differences between the mean Zn and Cu levels of GME and

normal were found to be significant unlike the case of Fe.

NMR spectra indicate the formation of some active centres due topatholigical conditions. UV studies reveal that tryptophan content gets reduced in

GME indicating a possible deformation in the peptide bound. UV and PAS were

applied to spot out the changes occurring in molecular characteristics of IgG andhemoproteins.
