Women make or influence 85% of all purchasing decisions.

Women business owners in Canada have 50% of the revenue of their male counterparts.

Women retain ownership in 47% of Canada’s 1.6 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and majority ownership in 17% of Canadian SMEs.

A 20% increase in total revenues among majority female-owned enterprises will add an extra $2 billion to the Canada’s economy.

Imagine what could happen if women entrepreneurs had access to the knowledge that would allow them to get their products and services to the right buyer in the right way.

Supporting women-owned businesses is not just good business, it’s good for business.

Learning Sponsorship

While women make up nearly half the workforce, they are still much less likely than men to be entrepreneurs. Some factors like greater risk aversion and occupational choice, which help shape the gender entrepreneurship gap, are likely to be slow to change.

Female SME owners are more likely than their male counterparts to:

• be highly educated

• be born outside of Canada

• have engaged in an innovation activity in the past three years.

• spend more time volunteering

Over the past 3 years WBE Canada has identified knowledge gaps for women entrepreneurs:

We are pleased to offer three Learning Sponsorship opportunities to our corporate members.Learning Sponsorship Built in collaboration with our curriculum designer, you provide your business

expertise to bridge the knowledge gap and provide course content. This unique opportunity to present a learning module demonstrates your commitment to education and advancement for women business owners and your sponsorship will feature prominently. For an investment of $25,000, you are our development sponsor ($12,500 for co-developers). An investment of $5,000 makes you the presenter, and an investment of $2,500 provides a facilitator role.

1Many of our corporate members have excellent training departments with a range of workshops, courses and online learning material. Through in-kind sponsorship you provide space for women entrepreneurs to participate in pre-selected learning opportunities. Your support to advancing the education of women entrepreneurs demonstrates your commitment to developing suppliers in the key areas where it is most needed.

23

You generously support diverse suppliers by making available executives and procurement staff to mentor WBEs. Typically 12- to 18-months in duration, our formal mentoring program pairs senior executives who work directly with mentees on a regular basis to identify opportunities for development. The goal of this one-on-one coaching is to better position WBEs when competing for business of large corporations.
