College life can sometimes seem daunting, but don’t worry! We have a team of people who work alongside your subject teachers to make sure you get help when you need it. Students at AV6 are all treated as individuals and staff work hard to ensure your education and support is tailored to you.

Tutor programmeAV6 offers an outstanding tutorial support programme for all of its students. Students are assigned a personal tutor who they will see every morning. In that time students will learn about current affairs, personal social and health issues as well as plan for university and employment. Learning Support We offer advice and support for students who might require additional help with their studies. This may include help with study skills such as time management, organisation skills, exam revision technique, coursework support or literacy.

Financial SupportFinancial assistance may be available to help with the costs associated with studying at AV6 and allocations are made based on criteria relating to family income. Student ExecutiveThe Student Exec is a group that is run by our Student Leadership Team to represent the interests of students and organise events. As part of this role the Student Exec lead peer-mentoring groups, guiding others in developing skills or academic ability.

Careers GuidanceAt AV6 we want students to receive the full package and progress successfully on to their chosen career and future aspirations. During the academic year, the college hosts multiple career events; from the careers fair to sector specific talks with organisations and employers where they will talk directly to the students about their own career progression, about their organisation and what it is like working there.

Support with University ApplicationsThe careers advisor helps students in choosing the right course of study, the right institution and what experiences they will want to gain from University. The University process really begins in the first year when we introduce the next step pathways. Inbuilt in to this is AV6’s very own careers fair, alongside specialised course talks from a range of University providers. We really seek to give students all the information they require to make the right, informed decision for them and their future career.

At AV6 we offer more than 40 different level 3 courses, allowing you to put together a specialist programme of study that exactly matches your interests, strengths and future aspirations. As an academic Sixth Form college, we have the breadth and depth to deliver your course choices without clashes.

Students choose three Level 3 subjects (A Level or BTEC, or a combination), that they will study over a two-year period. Although AV6 offers you the freedom of choice to pick any combination of subjects, it is important to consider which subjects work well together and suit you.

Students have access to excellent specialist facilities such as the multimedia centre which has an editing suite, Apple Mac computers and access to specialist cameras and camcorders.

We also have three extensive ICT suites and study centres on-site so there is always a quiet space for you to focus on your assignments and access the resources you need.

Our excellent sports facilities encourage student participation and motivation. Backing on to the River Avon, the college site is spacious and green, with large playing fields to the front, rear and side of the buildings. In addition, the college has a new sports hall, a fully-equipped fitness centre, two astro-turf sports courts, a dance studio with a sprung floor, tennis courts, access to an indoor pool and a further gym.

The art and design studios offer you the potential to draw, paint, sculpt, design and create 3D ceramics, models and stage sets. The EPQ is an independent research project on a topic of the student’s choice, which must be an extension of their A Level study. Student’s produce either a 5000 word essay or an artefact supported by a 1500 word report. Students are taught research skills and provided with supervision to guide them through the research process.
